You wish to know my stance on the issue facing Massachusetts? Mr. Adams, when this congress is concluded I intend to levy one thousand men, subsist them at my own expense and march them north to the aid of the Massachusetts Militia.

Re: Quotes you can build a character off of III: It's a crowd
I would comment on some of the gun quotes but with recent events that is dangerously close to politics.
Spoiler: "That's kind of weird." "Adam, your power involves kissing people, ghosts and monsters."Forget the character, I just want to figure out what the power is. ... OK I should say something about the character. A character with abilities completely out of the ordinary, but maybe doesn't react so well when other weird things show up. Normal is subjective after all and you could get used to some very weird things without having seen it all.Spoiler: {On formal military dress.} "We are trekking through the jungle." "That may be so, sir, but this is no reason to lower our standards."-The Flying Cloud
Not rain, nor sleet nor snow will let my uniform be dirty for more than a minute. Classic "tough love butler" type.Spoiler: "Don't trust your head, Samwise, it is not the best part of you."-The Two Towers
Some character's think better with their hearts or their guts. Emotionally or instinctually thinking as opposed to the more "explicate" intellectual thinking.Spoiler: "Is that legal?" "Hu?"I think they know what those words mean, but I guess they don't think about legality very often. So a "chaotic" individual, but I see a bit more to it than that. Because even if you don't personally care for the rules generally you want to make sure you don't get caught. This "Hu" level suggests that they don't even think about that. So they must also come from an area where enforcement is about zero. Hopefully the other speaker can help them not be so blatant about it.

"The Empire is gone"
"It is not!"
"The last Emperor died, his realm has fragmented."
"There is a new Emperor! The rebels will be dealt with in good time."
"There is no new Emperor, no help is coming, why can't you see that?"
"You think I can't? Look at my men. Their morale hangs by a thread. We are the sons and grandsons of men who have been fighting on this frontier since the last Emperor died. This regiment has fought an endless war against bandits, mauraders, an pirates since before I was born! Always the mantra has been to hold fast for just a little longer. Always we have told eachother that help would come eventually. We are the only once keeping order in this province. We are the sole source of protection for every little village and tiny hamlet that dots these plains. Should I tell the men that it is hopeless? Should I tell them no one is coming? That sixty years of struggle has been in vain? That the war their fathers handed to them can't be won? How many would stay? How many would keep up the fight to protect the people of this land. They need to believe. They need to know that there is something out there worth fighting for. If I take that away from them who will defend this land?"Warning, this poster makes frequent use of jokes, snarks, and puns. He is mostly harmless and intends no offense.

The machine gun like, the airplane, is an interesting curiosity certainly, perhaps even usefull in very specialized circumstances, but will never play a major role in warfare.

Re: Quotes you can build a character off of III: It's a crowd
I'me fairly certain the first and last of those are apocryphal, although there is the similar "Aviation is fine as a sport. But as an instrument of war, it is worthless." from Marshal Foch. However, he is also reported to have said:
"The military mind always imagines that the next war will be on the same lines as the last. That has never been the case and never will be. One of the great factors on the next war will be aircraft obviously. The potentialities of aircraft attack on a large scale are almost incalculable." Which itself is a fairly good character quote.
Anyway, in honour of today's moderately less famous anniversary:
"The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind." - Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur 'Bomber' Harris, on the commencement of the strategic bombing of Germany.
"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." - Prime Minister Winston Churchill, during the Battle of Britain.
"The thing that's always worried me about being one of the few is the way we keep on getting... fewer." - Flying Officer David Campell, as portrayed in The Longest Day.
And, of course, concerning today's rather more significant commemoration:
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." - John 15:13.
"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." - 1 Corinthians 15:26.

Re: Quotes you can build a character off of III: It's a crowd
I'm probably paraphrasing, but these are some of my favorites from some video games.
"One of the biggest joys in life is tormenting the souls of the dead."
--an evil wizard on not wanting to destroy all existence (from Arcanum: of Steamworks and Sorcery)
"Love, joy, hope... where'd they come from, and where are they going... these things, I will destroy."
"I will build a monument to non-existence."
-Kefka, FFVI
"They say one should not speak unkindly of the dead, so I say, 'Nice try.'"
-probably hard to build a quote from it, but I figured I'd throw in this Valkyrie Profile with the above

WHAT CAN THE HARVEST HOPE FOR, IF NOT FOR THE CARE OF THE REAPER MAN?

“It was amazing how many friends you could make by being bad at things, provided you were bad enough to be funny.”
― Terry Pratchett, Reaper Man
“Wizards don't believe in gods in the same way that most people don't find it necessary to believe in, say, tables. They know they're there, they know they're there for a purpose, they'd probably agree that they have a place in a well-organised universe, but they wouldn't see the point of believing, of going around saying "O great table, without whom we are as naught." Anyway, either the gods are there whether you believe in them or not, or exist only as a function of the belief, so either way you might as well ignore the whole business and, as it were, eat off your knees.”
