    2. Moderately recent Mashou whose appearance screams "Dark Lord" and, of course, is really a smol nerd at heart.

    Spoiler: Yrra Landers
    Show
Yrra Landers, Dark Iron Vicereine, PhD
Age: 28; contracted at 17 and looks about that age.
    Gender: Female.
    Ht: 5'10" (seems bigger in-armor)
    Wt: 115~?
    Faction: Wishcraft
    Rank: Specialist
Theme Song: One outward, one inward.

    Spoiler: Description
    Show
Yrra is a pale girl with eerily pale-yellow eyes and dark red hair kept at a spiky chin-length. A combination of scarring and tattooing around her mouth gives her a rather striking, formidable look. Fairly tall, she's not outright muscular but is clearly fit and toned. There's not too much fat on her, even in the regions most often occupied with feminine curve. For a girl looking 17, she's tall and tough and commanding, lithe and poised.

When not in her deadly finery, she maintains her dark-and-warm color scheme with blacks, greys, reds, etc. Her usual mundane clothes are casual---simple jeans and hoodies.

    Spoiler: Personality
    Show
Yrra exudes a quiet aura of power even out of her regalia, mostly a latent effect of her powers. She's fairly quiet and reserved most of the time, which often makes her seem ominous and forboding. However, she's generally quiet because she's shy and soft-spoken. Though her wish was for power and iron-fisted rule, she's actually very gentle and kind; power protects and iron fists deflect from others the slings and arrows of cruel fate that befell her before her contract. At least, that's her view.

Yrra is also a titanic dork. Firstly, the girl has a doctorate in Classical western mythology, which immediately brands her as a nerdlord. And while in the late 20th-early 21st century she'd be awash in manga volumes and DVDs, today her vast library of fluffy slice-of-life yuri is easily contained in her PCPU's cloud. Figurines? Got 'em. Posters? Yep. Animu gerl pillow? Yes, to her mild shame. She dreams of having a waifu in real laifu, but girls are so often intimidated by her and she's not sure how to talk to them, so... she's working on it, really. Somehow. Maybe.

    Spoiler: History
    Show
Yrra grew up in Iceland with her mother out of the picture and her father doing his best despite illness---sadly, his best wasn't that good, and she had to become pretty self-sufficient. Dad passed in her early teens, and she was okay on her own. Poor and shy and unpopular, but she got by and did well in school. But not always having quite enough to eat, not having friends, it ground away at her. She thought her life might turn around when she started dating a nice girl from a good family, right up until she found out what her girlfriend was saying about her behind her back. It was almost comical, the way life had just piled this on her.

    And then...
Make a contract with me, and become a magical girl!
    Yes.

She didn't hesitate. She knew what she wanted. Her... interesting skills lead Wishcraft to snap her up quickly, and she found her niche. The Dark Iron Vicereine made a name for herself in the North, carving out a reputation with the edge of her blade. In her off-time she quietly pursued the college education she'd dreamed of earning a scholarship for (much easier now, given her position). Shortly after completing her doctorate in Classical Myth, Wishcraft sent her to Neo-Mitakihara.

    Spoiler: Magical Matters
    Show
Wish: "I want power. I want to reign. I want to never be this weak again."
Themes: Presence, Intimidation, Empire, Reign, Dark Lord
Regalia: Dark metal articulated plate armor dominates Yrra's magical costume, with an open-fronted armor-skirt that preserves a feminine touch. Boobplate is not present. An angular helmet may be present, but given how magical armor works, it's more or less for show. Hanging at her side is a warhammer.
Abilities: Beyond general mashou speed-strength-stamina-dexterity, the core of her powers is presence. She emanates an aura that frightens and unnerves Wraiths, while allies have reported feeling "more focused". The range of this aura depends on how much she puts into it; it can be a small bubble around her or it can dominate a large area.
She's also a damn good fighter.
Perception: "The Dark Iron Vicereine" sums up the general public perception of her. Her ability is respected, but the fact that her aesthetics scream "evil overlord" make her a little difficult to give wide public praise. Few superiors seriously think she has intentions matching up with the whole Sauron look she's rockin', but most treat her with respectful unease. It's not too uncommon to know that she has a doctorate degree, though not many know what it's in.

So this might be a thing.
I just love the idea of a girl whose evil-overlord vibe is so strong she may as well start calling herself Darth Something-Or-Other, whose special power is an aura of fear and authority... and who mostly just wants to hold hands with pretty ladies and reblog waifus.

I think I might need to come up with someone a little less cynic for a third character, if I do.

Yrra looks great! More Wishcraft people is nice, and her concept is really fun. Approved.

The Wishcraft global headquarters, like a lot of important buildings, is located in Ward 2 - the most central ward in the city, and home to a lot of high profile business and organizations. Ward 1 is technically contained entirely within Ward 2, and is very small in its own right. Wishcraft HQ is located in Tomoe Tower, occupying forty-three of its non-residential levels (and two residential levels, which contain a thriving community of mashou and their families that opt to live there, including a school and other self-contained facilities). The Foundation also owns the industrial levels under the tower, which it has converted into one of the city's larger and more secure grief cube vaults. The levels its owns are a mixture of hospitals, training facilities, studios, and lots and lots of offices. The rest of the building is rented out, mostly to mashou-related businesses, with the relatively small residential wing housing primarily employees of Wishcraft and other businesses in the tower. Floors 81-88, in particular, are open to the public and are considered a major hotspot of mashou culture in the city. Lots of concerts and appearances take place there.

Sorry to everyone for my generally slow posting rate lately. Aiming to try and pick it up some.

    Oh, sorry. Missed that one.

Neo-Mitakihara hosts almost a thousand mashou! A lot by any measurement, and the highest density of mashou in any major city in the world. Second place goes to New York City, with its close to seven hundred mashou. Roughly speaking, experts estimate that one individual out of every fifty thousand has the potential to become a magica. In the past, a lot of less impressive candidates were glossed over, and the number of mashou was fairly tightly controlled by the incubators. But the global network and rising wraith occurance rates have driven the incubators towards a strategy that leaves very few potential mashou untapped, and most end up contracting.

Even accounting for this, Neo-Mitakihara's status as a mashou center means it has over twice the magical population its population of twenty million would suggest, and Tomoe Tower's mashou-only levels are arguably the closest thing in the world to an actual entirely-Mashou Town.

Old Man Satou and Crazy Dunny need something to do!

I say we assume they dropped the gun remnants off at NMSF HQ and then started following a lead on the likely shooter's "nest". Selinia, do you perhaps have info on where they could go looking, and if there are non-Mashou (or Mashou, I suppose, but it seems like there's Wraiths afoot so maybe not) civilians in the Old City they could go about interviewing, all detective-style?

So this is my idea of LIGHTHEARTED.

    Shang Fei

    Spoiler: Bio
    Show

Age: 18 (Contracted at 15, looks even younger because he's short, though buff as hell)
    Gender: Male
    Height: 4'9"
    Weight: 88 lbs
    Faction: Wishcraft
    Rank: ???

    Theme Song: Obviously.

    Spoiler: Description
    Show
Fei is a young male of Chinese descent, constantly garbed in a red patterned tang suit, black lantern pants and matching martial arts slippers. He also wears his long hair in a stylish, single braid that goes as far back as his knees. He's also short, and his normally VERY calm expression can turn sour and menacing the instant this is pointed out to him. Shirtless Fei looks way too muscly for a kid his age, too.

When transformed, he looks like Bruce Lee and Road Warrior Mel Gibson had a son on steroids.

    Spoiler: Personality
    Show
Fei is unusually mature for his age, and has been known to have an uncanny insight into what one would call adult matters. He can turn shy surprisingly easy when it comes to romance, usually countering this with claims that love detracts from training. Which he constantly does.

He's VERY sensitive about his height, too, claiming that at his village most people weren't very tall either.

Other than that, he has a very bright and sunny disposition. He's also quick to offer food. For this reason alone he's fairly well-known in Old Mitakihara - he constantly makes truckloads of food to distribute among the less fortunate in that ghetto. A good deal of his income goes towards this, actually.

    Spoiler: History
    Show
In 209 AD, the forces of warlord Cao Cao fled north after their efforts to control the Yangtze river were frustrated by Liu Bei. On their way back, beset by the elements, Cao Cao made camp at a village that wasn't near any maps.

His trusted advisors suggested he rest longer before making their way back, and requesition food from the villagers. But Cao Cao refused; in spite of the state of their troops, he ordered them to march as soon as the weather turned fair. At the time, his advisors thought nothing of it, believing it to be one of his intempestive decisions.

The truth was, however, that Cao Cao was terrified of the village. He couldn't explain or understand why.

That was the last contact the village had with the outside world until roughly eighteen centuries later. When the wraiths came, Sheng Fei's village was essentially frozen in time. They lived much as they used to back in the Three Kingdoms era. The village elders were descended from warrior monks fleeing the chaos and turmoil of the time, to which refugees flocked. Their presence kept bandits and warlords alike away, and by the time China was politically stabilized, they had all but been forgotten by history.

    But the Wraiths found them.

Sheng Fei would have been the sole survivor, but for an incubator that could tell of his potential for despair.

When Wishcraft finally arrived, Sheng Fei stood amid the dumbfounded villagers and the remainder of the Wraith assaults. And so he was the first to leave the village in 1800 years.

Themes: Kung Fu, FIRES! OF! PASSION!, This isn't even my final form, Cooking, Stars, Ill Omens, Naked Means More Power.
Powers: Sheng Fei's potential as a human was already impressive, enough to keep up with the weakest of combat-minded mashou on a good day. Becoming a mashou only built on that further - even among enhanced mashou, his strength and speed are off-the-charts. When he transforms, his childlike form turns to something much more apt for combat. By shifting his breathing rhythm, he is capable of infusing magic power into himself, increasing that baseline strength and speed even further, to the point he can literally punch and kick Wraiths into nonexistence (at the cost of ripping more and more of his clothes). Once this technique passes a certain threshold, he can also channel flame in the form of an aura, which increases the deeper into it he is. He typically uses this aura to... cook wraiths.

That's right. He turns Wraiths into treats. Eating these treats heals wounds proportional to the power of the original wraith and diminishes soul gem corruption (it's like using up a grief cube, with an added bonus. But you gotta eat it).

He can also materialize oversized cooking implements as weapons. You'd be surprised how threatening a spork looks when it's big enough to bore a hole the size of your head in your throat. Finally, he can delay the impact of his strikes so as to increase their destructive power.

Perception: The exact incident and circumstances of his contract aren't public knowledge per his request. Therefore, Shang Fei came out into society practically out of the blue. He quickly became a rising star in the field of martial arts and cooking alike, only spurred on by the fact he uses martial arts weapons to cook. DIM SUM WILL NEVER TASTE AS DELICIOUS AS WHEN IT'S COOKED ON THE BLADE OF A HORSE-CLEAVING SWORD!

He is known to live within rather modest means in comparison to the money he makes, however, devoting a great deal of it to feeding the starving masses of Old Miki. Which only adds to the public's good perception of him. His general shyness when it comes to romantic matters have led to speculations he might be gay, but those have since been dismissed. Nonetheless, he has a good deal of devoted fans of both genders.

(Almost like they were police detectives. Weird!)
I will aim to get something up on this later. Right now I am way too tired to do a scenebuilding post.

    Rank: ???

    Theme Song: Obviously.

    Spoiler: Description

Fei looks cool! Given his origins there are actually a couple things I'd like to ask about him specifically, but I can get in contact when, again, I am not so exhausted.
