Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
Damien's mother needs to get hit by a truck. His sister may or may not need to be hit by a lesser vehicle. Probably not. Assuming she was brainwashed through browbeating, anyways.

Yeah, Damien's early gaming days appear to be the epitome of 'Rollplay'. Mac must love playing with them

Yeah, Mac probably loves it at the table with Damien's mom, but can't keep up. I think she died in the first combat during the bonus comic where they played Robin Hood.
And Mai and Yue are my favorite NPCs in the campaign. Oh, and the Borderlands Sandbenders!. . .

I feel so sad about Damien and how he had to fight his way through his mom shadow.

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
Contrast in Damien's attacks :
Before, he was all "16 ! 22 ! 13 !"
Now, he's "Wooooooo!"
Weird how a basic onomatopeia can make you so proud of a character

I'm changing my answer on the casting grid. Damien's totally going to play as Jinora.

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
Mac is the opposite of a roleplayer. Like some people forget to roleplay, or have fun not roleplaying, like Jim in Darths and Droids. And the other Jim from Wands and Wizardry just needed to be coaxed into caring about roleplaying by his friends. But Mac actually rejects roleplaying. Like belligerently is against it. She's probably the second strongest player at the table, but has made a deliberate effort to be the bottom ranked character player. It's pretty frustrating.

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
Been saying it all along, Mac is all about the Rollplay. She's regularly shown that she really doesn't care about Katara as a character, instead just having her be a substitute for herself. Importantly, this is not in itself a bad thing. Having games that are by and large mechanically focused is fine, they can be fun, and are enjoyable for the right people. However, Manny's running a character driven game, and the mini-sessions have been about personal character arcs. Given the complete lack of characterisation Mac's given Katara, it just wouldn't work.
We've seen Manny try and get her to engage with Katara before, too. The Bloodbending bit was all about getting Mac to play Katara, but Mac ignored it and just saw a shiny new toy to make Katara stronger.
Given she's DM'd for the group for the past however long, I do have to wonder how much of the lack of IC/OOC separation prevalent in much of the comic is down to her personal DMing style. While we've not seen it in action, I imagine it's not too dissimilar to what we've seen recently of Damien's first session. All rolls, no roleplay. Which, while it's presented as utterly joyless in the comic, is still a legitimate way to play if it's what you enjoy.

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
Woa... It looks like Mac is getting out the darkest part of Manny.
I concurr with him. if there's no roleplay on a session like that, he don't have to bother for good scenes and developments. A random boss fight to get some xps and done.
It reinforces my thought about Mac being Korra : she needs a serious character arc to grow as a player and Korra go through the similar process at the begining of her story.

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
In Mac's defense, perhaps concentrating on damage and ignoring everything else is the only way to finally beat Rube/Azula? Maybe Rube is just too good, otherwise?
I'm wondering how much Damien is falling for her. He seemed to be really concerned for her in the previous arc and at climax of the original cartoon series Zokka risked his life to block a shot directed at Katera.

Are you kidding?
I meant Zukko, of course.
BTW, I noticed that Shelby was the one who originally taught Mac that the mechanics were everything. It at least got her going that way.

I'm contractually obligated to tell you to read the Finn vs Shelby crossover. It's awesome! And I think the author really likes Monty Oum...

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
Yeah, it's pretty neat. And I really loved Shelby's reaction at the end. They were all expecting her to snap his arm or something, I reckon, but instead she just laughs and throws him the die.
She was so perfectly built up to basically be this intimidating legend, and she's simultaneously lived up to the legend and revealed her vulnerable, human side. Honestly, I think she might be my favorite character, even if I am struggling to properly classify her as a player archetype. Need to get my hands on a 4e DMG, there's a shnivetston of them listed in there...

She called him cute. I'm going to assume she has a crush on him. Maybe.
Does anyone know how old these people are supposed to be?

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
They seem to all be around college age? In Rick's recap he indicated that he was 17 at the beginning, and he's mentioned professors more than once. Given that no one has said anything to make it seem like they're of wildly varying ages, I'm going to assume they're mostly between 18-24.
Also, it looks like Allie may end up having something to do with the new campaign? Either just making Damien's character, or possibly joining in? Definitely some serious hints towards Rick DM'ing as well.

Wait, Mac just said that Allie is Lex's cousin? I thought she was his niece? Or is Mac just confused/mistaken?

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
The page is called Sic (Semper Frigidum), so I'm pretty sure it's a mistake but Allie doesn't correct it (from the latin, "Incorrect Person With Lower Than Optimal Temperature"). Which is strange, because she got Manny to shut up just a few pages ago just by asking a question.

Re: D&D Aangvanced (Avatar: The Last Airbender Screencap Comic)
It is a mistake, but I think there are a couple of reasons why Allie might not correct her. 1) She doesn't care that much. They all know she's related to Lex, and that's all that really matters for her purposes. 2) Mac's being distant and cold, but not rude like Manny was.
I'm also very glad to finally have confirmation on Allie's age. I was sort of thinking she'd be closer to 17 or 18, but I suppose 15 makes sense given her general demeanor and apparent enthusiasm.
