Eglantine was frozen in indecision. Aerin was trapped fighting near a collapsed Rowan, the madman that Rowan had befriended was looking bad, all the guards had collapsed and that Cleric that Aerin and Rowan seemed to recognize was also looking pretty badly beaten. Hawke and Relik

Signing up to work as a guard during the tournament had seemed like a good idea at the time. Most of the work was just patrol around the city, which meant you could also see the sights, lodging was arranged and the pay was decent. So even if one didn't particularly like being bossed around by people in uniform, why not make some easy money? And sure enough, the first couple of days in service had been pretty lax, the worst trouble had been revellers who couldn't pay their drinks or hadn't wanted to leave a tavern by the closing time. But today the orders had been different, to stand guard at the castle, which was fine by itself, although incredibly boring; apparently you had to stand still glued at your post and couldn't even chat with your pair if anyone even remotely important looking was within earshot.

Yet even boredom can feel like a blessing lost when you see a servant's throat slit by a blade in the shadows and then have to defend your own life the next second. And there is little joy in finally getting away from that guard post when you can't find a single living person (that doesn't want to kill you) even after checking two dozen rooms and a good length of corridor, only bodies drowning in their own blood. Occasionally you hear a scream or a clang of steel, but the echoes in the halls make them hard to follow, even if you wanted to. It is the sort of situation where you start to feel that it would perhaps be best to get the hell away from such a place, and so the recruits Hawke and Relik have made their way towards the main entrance. They've reached the end of the corridor leading to the hall from the right, when they hear the sounds of battle coming from behind the closed door.

    Spoiler: Table, CatBeard
    Show
So, to summarise: You were assigned as a pair this morning and have spent the day as castle guards, which was a bit of change from the earlier patrol duty. You're allowed to keep your own weapons and armour, though a small magic crystal is attached to your armour, which makes tit look the same as the standard uniform (it is removable and doesn't do anything else, just disguises your armour to look like a scale mail with the guard emblem on it).

Just some time before your shift was supposed to end, people started dying, killed by scaly assassins.
    Spoiler: Visual aid
    Show

If you have ranks in Knowledge(Nature) you can roll to see if you know anything about these people.

You fought and killed a couple of the attackers, and are now near the main entrance hall, in R7 and S7 on the map (though the door in front of you is still closed, so the rest of the map is a bit of meta knowledge for you at this point).
I'll roll your initiative and put you in an appropriate block depending on the result, at the earliest it will be after the next couple of allies and enemies posted below in this same post. I usually put up a note about whose turn it is in the OOC thread or at the end of the newest IC post (sometimes both). We're using block initiative, and within a block, you act in the order of posts made.

What a mess today had been. He had been bored sick of castle duty to be sure, though this wasn't exactly the way Hawke would have elected to relieve it.

As the pair hears the battle in the next room, Hawke decides that he could use a quick drink. He takes said drink from his waterskin, then starts to ready his bow. "Sound like they could use some assistance." He gives his partner a bit of a weary smirk. "Ready for more?"

Last time I take a guard job. Relik thought to himself every other minute he spent guarding some random door in a palace. Finally, something. Relik thinks when the first screams reach them. The day had been so uneventful that Relik was utterly bored and welcomed any change to the monotony, even if it was bloody.

However, after the 6th room with only corpses, though, he gets a little more wary as to the nature of the excitement. Some weird scaly things were killing all the people. Well, he would just have to kill all the weird scaly things. Flail drawn he reached the door, his partner for that day right behind him.

There are 4 enemy units that he can see, 2 of them consist of a rider and mount. The closest is a blue dragonbeast that is ridden by a white scaled rider wielding two bone blades. When Relik gets closer he sees that his eyes are glowing red, like a barbarian in rage. At the mounts feet lie the bodies of two guards, still bleeding out, and one who wears the robes of a cleric.

Another body lies at the top of the stairs and right next to it a half orc is fighting another blue beast. On the balcony on their right a woman with an axe is fighting two green dragonbeasts, one of which has a rider.

Ah, here we come to a rule distinction again. Delaying and readying actions are two separate things. When you delay, it means you move your entire turn in the initiative order. You can take your turn at any point after you start delaying, however, you can't interrupt anyone else's turn. (And especially in a PbP, it is good to give some description of why or how long you are delaying.)

Readying otoh is always a standard action, even when you are readying other types of actions. Unlike delaying, it can interrupt others actions, if the trigger conditions are met. Readying also changes your place in the initiative order.

    Link to rules page.

However, I'm thinking of coming up a ruling about Withdrawing while prone, probably like that you can only move 5 ft. or so. I'll bring it up in the OOC thread.

Dropping longbow as a free action at Q9 (so as to not use a move action putting it away) and drawing flail (also a free action with +1 or higher BAB apparently.

Move to P11 and attack A2W mount with flail.
