Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
I'd like to inform you all that I will be forced from playing this game for an unforeseeable amount of time. My computer has a recently discovered defect that is still covered by Warranty and I'm sending it back for repairs. If you guys want to remove the timer until I get back to avoid any unplanned and unnecessary wars, that would be nice. Otherwise I'll just go into vacation mode.

Should another spy from you be found without it being part of a trade negotiation, it will severely strain our diplomatic relations.

We have sent a trade for accepting embassies. Should you accept, we intend to have you ask for open borders next, or have us ask for open borders on our next turn.

As it happens I'm going to be away this weekend, so we could turn the timer off that long, at least? I wouldn't normally bother to ask for such a short period, but if we've got two players absent out of six it seems more worthwhile.

Spoiler: Silverraptor: PolynesiaOne of my scouting knight units reports a large number of Iroquois troops on the march near Raiatea. Can't tell if they're headed your way or south. They're mostly Mohawk Warriors (4-5 units, I think I saw), but I could swear I saw some unusual weaponry, that my scholars say are called "muskets." Let me know what I can provide, Her Majesty is always pleased to support fellow Buddhist nations. (If you'd like, I could send another Missionary your way. )
I don't see Hiawatha being a big problem in the long run, but I'm worried about falling behind...
Hmm, did anyone happen to notice who hosted the World's Fair? I think that I missed it.

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Yeah I definitely picked an inopportune moment for my motivation to die completely.
Spoiler: Shishnarfne;CarthageSeeing as you're the kingmaker as far as WC Host goes right now, I'd like to ask you to spare a majority of your votes my way. While I can offer you friendship and trade deals galore - and I will, make me an offer - my main point here is pragmatic. Illven's clearly going for Diplomatic Victory, and I gave up on that once he beat me to Forbidden Palace. He needs the Host seat to set himself up to win, so I suggest keeping it out of his hands.
Spoiler: Datsmore;Japan and The Snark;OttomansAs I was saying to Carthage, we're reaching the point of the game where the Netherlands is going to set up for Diplomatic Victory. That's not my chosen path, since he beat me to FP and then I didn't bother with Patronage at all, so if we keep Venice/A-M as Host, it will pretty well keep him out of the running for that.Last edited by Nerd-o-rama; 2017-02-25 at 05:23 AM.

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Spoiler: nerdorama;veniceI would've liked this update last turn, before I threw my votes at the Ottoman Empire. (If he voted for himself, then that would put him and the Netherlands in a tie... letting you keep it.)
I'd argue that Illven is probably our biggest threat. I think that he's probably gearing to go Autocracy (soon!). Am I correct in my assumption that you plan to go Freedom? It looks like I'll be pushing the third power block of Order, then.
I certainly want to keep the balance of power from swinging too far towards the Dutch. Have you a strong preference on the Cultural Heritage (+culture from Wonders)? I think that the Iroquois are actually best posted to prosper there... and I'm already worried about them.
Spoiler: silverraptor;Polynesia
It looks like the Iroquois army is headed south, not east. I think that this is good news for you, but I'm having to detour around Ife, so I don't have great vision.
Would you be interested in a mutual defense treaty? Basically a "free" entry into taking Hiawatha's lands if/when he declares war on one of us.

We are pleased to announce that the world congress has been moved to Amsterdam.
Spoiler: Sunday spectator update
Venice tries stealing our city state ally. Again. They also have a deal for us, so we'll see if it's a signal to let them have it, and if so if it's worth it.
It's just open borders with a slight donation for the privilege....
We take the city state back into the Dutch fold.
The Polynesians accept our trade.
The voting tells me, we were right to plot.
As the citizens of Orleans desire luminous gold.
The southern fleet waits for orders.
As our workbands also wait for orders.
As Utrecht guards report no problems.
Our missionaries wait for more orders.
The Northern fleet has orders. Land in-between the continents, it must be explored.
As Rotterdam's defense force reports no problems.
Our great scientists wait to be called.
As the palace guard reports no problems.
As our scouts explore the eastern continent.
Here we see the wonders of Dutch science.
Maps of the capital.
Maps of Rotterdam to finish it's public school soon.
Utrecht on it's windmill.
Orleans on it's work shop.
Paris working to connect the Americas!
And maps of the puppet Lyon.
Here we see King William of Orange attempting to promote free thought to boost the empire.
As the now first Amsterdam conference rages on.
The scholars say we are best in land, best in approval.
As our countryside starts to become an appealing destination site for tourist.
And our info on our nation's rivals.

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Spoiler: Japan, Carthage, OttomansApparently I'm really unclear with turn order in regards to voting, but oh well. My fault for not paying attention.
The Netherlands have their military built up from dealing with France, including their really nasty UU Privateers. It might behoove those of us who share sea borders with them to keep an eye out. I'm expecting an opportunistic strike on my Vatican City puppet soon, and if he's ahead of everyone in naval tech it's going to be a pretty solid gg if he decides to go naval conquest.
Main thing I'm suggesting right now is the possibility of Defensive Pacts, especially for me, Japan, and Ottomans since we've got the eastern half of the Pacific Rim split between us. As far as I'm concerned, Carthage is more than welcome also.Spoiler

Re: Civ 5 GMR 16 Reject Earth Edition
Spoiler: Venice (Ankh-Morporkh); Nerd-o-ramaI do not feel comfortable entering into a defensive pact while my own navy is seriously underprepared. I hope that, once I am able to catch up on a few key techs (so that I can actually build frigates and can upgrade all the Berserkers I've so generously been gifted), I will be able to potentially provide a meaningful naval presence. I certainly plan to let you know if I notice something amiss regarding the Dutch fleet.
I've offered Polynesia a Defensive Pact for purposes of "containing" Hiawatha. I'm afraid that I promised to do so before becoming aware of their impending Declaration of Friendship with the Netherlands (presumably a quid pro quo for tossing the World Congress their way).
I'll be finishingOxford UniversityThe Grand School of Carthiginian Research in a few turns. My scholars say that they should have figured out a "great new source of energy" by harnessing lightning before then. As you are likely aware, (assuming that you, like myself, are monitoring the Dutch capital), they appear to be *just* ahead of me in this regard. If they wish to pursue Diplomatic supremacy, Autocracy would seem like a natural choice. Given your development, I presume that you intend to go Freedom. The premises of Communism appear to offer more for our cities than Capitalism seems to offer your grand capital. I am certainly willing to work the historical agenda of these separate powers overcoming their differences to combat Autocracy. Would you be willing to consider a joint research effort to assist in bringing my forces to technological parity with those of the Netherlands?
What are your thoughts on the proposed World Congress resolutions? I think that the two of us still have enough votes to make it difficult for the Dutch to pass legislation without assistance."Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make men happy." --Siegbert Tarrasch
