    Cassy chews on her lower lip nervously, looking over her shoulder away from the fight. She looks back towards the fight with a furrowed brow. "That's not gonna work," she mutters -- possibly in Draconic, she's not sure -- when the elf casts his spell. How could he not just tell the whatever-it-is would shrug that off? It seemed pretty obvious to her. She narrows her green eyes and waves her hand towards the devil. Quietly she begins murmuring -- this time in Draconic for sure.

    Casting as she moves, Cara edges over to Raven and just taps him gently to avoid distracting him. She frowns as she considers ways to help Taros out. Even if it wasn't rather obvious he's been rendered nigh helpless by the devil, she knows from her status spell anyway. "Taros, I know you can't respond, but I'm here for you."

    Raven groans as his ribs crack under the business end of the spiked mace and again as the thing crashes into his spine. He barely notices as the demon crunches him in its mighty jaw. Near falling to the ground, Raven struggles to keep his grasp on his blade. His mind struggles to think of a means of escape - he knows he has some.

    As Cara's spell strengthens him, Raven visibly straightens and his sword point comes to bear between him and the beast. His mind snaps to as well and he settles on course of action. He swings his great blade in a magically enhanced flurry before flashing supernaturally to a new location.

    Default Cara is Stunned!

    Bernam looks to Cassy with fear in his eyes. "There's a druid in the woods. I'll see if he still lives!" He flees with all his might. "May the sun god forgive my cowardice!" He runs off fast into the night.

    Cara can move easily in a step behind Raven to heal him {+47}
    This draws the demon's ire, and it's eyes look at Cara up through Raven's legs.

    Silveral embarrassingly casts a spell that launches 5 violet missiles from his fingertips. When it successfully pelts the devil's head, he celebrates with a near kneel and triple fist pump. "Yeah!!!" In elfish of course, showing the first bit of battle-face yet.

    Cassy targets her disabling spell at the cornugon! It howls in anger, but stays focused on the nearby priest as it whirls it spiked chain about. {OOC- She might remember the name from 'picture' books.}

    Marius pulls back, and sees the devil is ignoring him for the moment. He examines his wounds and sees they are deep, and hit vital organs. He needed serious healing. He bleeds some more. {-4, actually lost on devil's initiative}
    He does see a doorway, as well as a great, and once fine tattered rug that covers most of this bare stone walled basement.

    James' many attacks skip off the devil's horns as the warblade tries to draw the attacks, but can't draw the devil's eyes from the priestess before him. The whipping long chain created a bit of a wind in the area. {Nothing to deter any of you however! }

    Raven's flurry of attacks don't hurt it either, but he is able to leap and roll away a safe distance. Taros stands nearby stumbling, still stunned, but he wakes up enough, that he can act this round. He sees Cara right before him. He also sees the long range of the chain.

    Cara is battered senseless three times as the long whirling chain reaches her with ease near the ruined porch. She is pained, but alive and is experiencing what Taros felt. She's alive however, and {d:24, 20, 17} drew the heavy fire this round... Her head is spinning.
    With the priestess so close, it will not let up. The tail whips to nearby James, more to lash him back and away. Through some miracle of the SUN's holiness the tail merely scratches a scar across James' breast plate. It seems only to bite nearby James to spite him. {d:17}

    Cassy winces at the sight of Cara being hit. "Oh hey, no, that's totally not okay," Her voice is raised and slightly chiding: as if the devil had just double-dipped in the hummus at the appetizer tray rather than beat her best friend senseless. In other words, she sounds a lot more like her old self than the muttering, confused Cassy of just a few seconds before.

    Ideas pop into her head, one after another. Run. No. Run and hide. Ye- no. Magic Missile. No. Run. No, again. Scorching Ray. No. Dimension Door Cara. Yes, maybe. Close my eyes and wish this wasn't happening. Tempting. Send it back home. Yes, maybe. So, two plausible options. Cassy right now could either possibly send the demon or devil or what-have-you the hell back to wherever it came from, or for sure get Cara to safety, though the demon would probably bat Cassy into next week when she tried. She knows what action Cara would choose, of course. The dumb action that helped everyone, rather than the dumb action that saved Cara's dumb hide and left everyone else out to dry.

    Cassy sighs and rolls her eyes, focusing her will around her annoyance at the decision beyond forced on her. "Go away, shoo," she says in Draconic, pointing her staff at the devil.

    Burn a 5th level spell to use Dismissal through the Runestaff. Will save or it goes the hell home (Will save DC = 35 - creature’s HD). SR applies, but it's reduced by 12 because of Cassy's earlier spell.

    With Cara out of it, Silveral moves forward and fires his best attack spell! 5 more magic missiles annoy it! He pumps his fist and kneels a bit again at the devil's pain.

    Then Cassy sends a powerful charge through her mighty staff. The devil sees this and roars in anger, and then disappears, getting sucked into the portal! The swirling portal is still there. But, the devil is gone.

    "You did it Cassy!"

    Silveral looks at Taros as he comes close to Cara, "Perhaps we should burn the place down."

    Bernam is long gone.

    Cara will snap out of it soon, but Marius is bleeding to death in the basement. He will have lost a lot more blood before Cara can even wake-up. {-12}

    A fog had clouded Taros's head for the brief fight with the fel demon. Sound and sight snap back into over-speeded motion as he shakes the concussive blow. Quickly taking in the scene, he can only watch as Cassy evokes a spell and sends the demon elsewhere.

    Looking to his companions, he notes they're all fairly injured. Moving to Raven, James, and Cara, he does what he can to alleviate their wounds.

    Cassy darts forward, her spell speeding her movement. She snaps her fingers at Cara, "Hey! Wakey wakey!" Realizing it's doing no good, she chews on her lip and looks around helplessly, taking in the scene from the edge of the hole. There wasn't anything she could do, really.

    Fortunately, she's given something to do: yell at nitwits. Cassy jerks her head around and looks at Silveral, then down into the basement at Marius, pointing her staff at each in turn. "And the next one who mentions burning this place down before we figure out what happened to Cara's whoevers-they-are is gonna be the next one I boot through that portal, got it?"

    Everything happens very slowly to Cara's brain, like people are moving around in water. By the time she snaps out of it, people are already healed, which means they're ready to move on. "Burning," she finally says with finality, "is what we'll do on the way out, when we're sure there are no survivors left behind."

    She shakes her head. "There is no such thing as coincidence. She won't be able to resist attacking at us again, at least, so we needn't worry upon hunting her down as such." She sighs heavily. "I wonder how many more lives she'll take before we can deal with her again. Hopefully in a more final way this time."

    Raven spins out his tumble to turns and face the demon, ready to leap back in front of Cara and Taros. Before he can move, however, Cassy sends the roaring demon packing.

    "Impressive," Raven says to Cassy, keeping pace with her as she rushes up to Cara's side, "and far better than hacking at its thick hide."

    He stands by while Cassy tends to Cara and Taros tends to Raven's own wounds. He thanks Taros before asking, "So who was the vampire witch and what the hell is that thing?"

    Raven points to the gaping hellmouth and continues to eye it suspiciously.

    Default Hell Portal Closes

    Marius in the basement stains the tattered rug red as he drinks his potions. The first one merely stopped the bleeding.{d:28} The second scabbed them over. {+16 at -12 now} Marius notices his blood seep through the tattered rug, and drip through a crack.

    Silveral looks to Raven, "The devil was a cornugon... quite nasty, also called horned devil. Don't know much else."

    {OOC- I thought I'd killed Raven, but the only miss on that spiked chain was also its lowest roll of the battle at the highest TO HIT bonus, and Raven just ducked under it!}

    The hell-portal slowly closes, and after about 10 minutes it will be completely gone. Besides the doors in the living room, the basement has one as well.

    Giving a wry chuckle, Cara grins, also. "That was Selma. We'll see her again." She says this with certainty, because she is certain of it.

    "Marius, is there anything of note down there? A door perhaps? It would be a shame to pass up on a chance to use something other than the front door to get inside."

    "Selma..." Cassy tilts her head to the side and then shakes it slowly, unwilling to explain any further. Just saying Selma's name seems to take some of the wind out of her sails.

    Instead of saying anything more, she steps off the side of the hole, floating into the basement. She takes off a ring and tosses it back up to Cara. "Catch. Hope I threw you the right one. Put that on and you can just float down. If it's the right one. If it's the wrong one, you'll just fall."

    Most of the basement floor is stone, except an area that Cassy and Marius become aware of as a voice begins to call up from below. "You done yet! You yellow-bellied bastards! Just kill me already! I know you're still there!!"
    Even far away Cassy will recognize her old friend. It was Tunia, and it sounded like she was deep in some hole.

He then adds, "There's a crawlspace or another basement floor under this one though... Or at least I think. But there's a door in this room, don't know where it leads, but that's easily remedied."

    Hearing the voice, Marius frowns, trying to pinpoint the voice. He's heard it before, but he can't make it out.

    Cassy's mouth kicks into action before her brain. So, business as usual, for a moment. "Oh s---, Tunia, what the hell are you doing here? These bozos are so hard up for people I give a f--- about that they're digging up skanky two-timing exes? What next, that guy I had a one night stand with back in... uh... not that I..." The realization that she has a broader audience hits her, and she quiets down for a minute after looking up at the others still above the basement.

    She sighs, and starts to look for the hole Tunia's gotten herself into. "Alright, we'll get you out of there."

    Cara slips the ring on and jumps, her complete faith in Cassy not even making her take pause. Once on the ground, she repeats the gesture, tossing it up to Taros, if he wants it. "It's a trip down memory lane today, apparently." She gives Marius a sidelong glance. "I wonder who else we might find down here."

    She gives the door a looking over, but doesn't approach it. Opening doors isn't her job. "I don't suppose, Tunia, that you know the quickest way for us to get to where you are?"

    Raven stands at the edge of the hole, preferring the vantage point and higher ground until there is some indication that he's needed below. The portal gone, he scans the surroundings somewhat absently. He casts a spell before returning to his thoughts and half-hearted vigil.

    Immediately there a chorus of screaming children who join Tunia in yelling for help.
    They all seem to be screaming, "Cassy save us! You're our hero!!"

    "Great." So, calling Tunia a tramp had just been heard by a bevy of children. It figured.

    First, she grabs the rug and pulls it aside, looking under it for a trapdoor. "You could be more helpful, you know, and tell us how the hell they got you down there to start with."

    If there's not a trapdoor under the rug, Cassy will cast Unseen Servant from a scroll and have it open the door on the far side, then look through there. Also, she can use Knock from a scroll to unlock any doors.

    There is indeed a trap-door down. It leads to a natural cavern that goes down about 30 feet to an underground chamber. It is VERY dark down there.

    After fishing through her pockets and her Haversack, Cassy finally finds a copper coin. Casting light on the coin, she drops it down the hole. "I know it's tempting, but don't go stealing that copper piece, Tunia."

    If the light spell does nothing (level 0 light effect), she'll toss down an Everburning Torch (level 2 light effect).

    Default Underneath the Millhouse

    The light-coin clatters to the rock floor below, dropping about 30 feet.

    The natural chamber below the basement is huge, and Cassy can't see it all from her vantage point thru the shaft down. The shaft is rocky and looks smoothed, but natural. Cassy can see blood stains on the rocky ground near the light-penny.

    {The shaft is about 10 feet of the 30 foot drop.}

    The sounds of many Ooos and Aaahs are heard as the coin clatters to the ground from the surrounding darkness.

    Cara crouches down at the edge of the shaft, putting a knee on the floor for stability. "Tunia, is there another way out of that room, so far as you have been able to find? Use the light to check if you need to." She looks back at Cassy, speaking loudly enough that she could be heard by anyone nearby. "If there's another way out of there, we could drop in and fight our way out. If not, much as I dislike the idea, they are probably safest if we leave them there for now."

    Speaking quietly, Taros nods to Cara. "We've rope; if need be we can haul them out of there. But we must ensure this area is cleansed before proceeding. Perhaps Silveral can keep watch on them while we deal with the rest of this hive."
