Semult has the group set down the body by the door. "With the city as it is, I doubt anyone inside would answer. I think we'll have to force our way in and then call out about who we bring."

The bard reaches down and tries the door then turns to Jemus, "Think you can pick the lock?"

[Kish]

No one living seems to be close to your group.

[razorback]

Jemus, kneeling before the lock, mutters "Hmmm.... I don't know... maybe..." he trails off as he pulls out his tools and give it a go.

He doesn't have pick locks but he has disable device. Not sure how you want to rule on this, Kish. In my IRL group we play as them rolled into one skill and didn't really think too much on it when I created him.

Jemus finds the lock on Gwerm Manor resists his efforts.

Jemus struggles with the lock for a few minutes before shaking his head and standing. "No luck. Not really my strong point but I've had some luck before." Taking a few steps away. "Do we try to force our way in or move on?" he says as he looks at the others.

[Cavir]

"A window then."

Semult takes his cloak off as he walks up to a window. Holding the cloak against the glass he uses his morningstar to smash the glass, muffled by the cloak. He clears out enough of the pane to open the rest of the window. Semult peers in, clears the broken glass, then climbs through to unlock the door.

[Kish]

None of the windows on the ground floor are nearly big enough for anything larger than a housecat to fit through. If they were, a demon or a looter would likely have broken in already.

Tellos
Your bird can fit through the window yes? Put it through, and I will magically switch our positions.

[Kish]

The eagle manages to slip inside through the broken window.

Tellos begins to gesticulate, and nothing happens. He takes out his spellbook, flips to a page, then put it back in his pack. Sorry, I got the spell confused. He then speaks the arcane words and changes positions with the bird. If nothing stops him, he will open the door from the other side.

He nods approvingly as Tellos disappears and as the eagle reappears. "Nicely done, a most useful spell to be sure."

Gathering up as much of the broken glass as possible, he then places them back in the frame as closely as possible, passes his hand over the window and casts a mending spell. The window looks as good as new when he finishes.

[CWater]

"Good work", Alamryn says and scratches the eagle's neck. "You stay outside, it's too cramped inside for your wings, isn't it? But stay out of the demon's sight, flee if something comes at you." The eagle flies up to find a perch on the roof.

[Kish]

Tellos makes his way through the deserted mansion to the door, which he unlocks. It doesn't seem like anyone has been here in at least 24 hours.

As Trawyn opens the door, Jemus is ready to pounce until he realizes it's his friend. Smiling, he says "We should enter and lock this, then come up with a plan, eh?" as he waves in everyone else into the building. Once in and the door closed, he breathes a sigh of relief. Looking around, he continues. "No one home? No one hiding? Well, maybe we'll find more survivors out there. In the mean time, where do we head now? The Topaz Solutions?"

Semult drags the body though the door and to the side. "This is a struggle of survival, for both us and the city. We need to take whatever can be of use. Lord Gerwm 's manor should be well supplied. Spread out and search the manor." Semult kneels down next to the body and thoroughly searches it.

Tellos
This does not sit well with me, but you are right, and we know Lord Gwerm won't be able to make use of it.

Jemus gives Tellos a clap on the back. "I understand your feelings but I think Lord Gwerm would understand and approve, eh? Come on, let's get it done and get out of here."
With that, Jemus begins looking around for supplies and equipment that might help the group survive.

There is nothing of value on Lord Gwerm's body; even his once-fine clothes have been reduced to tatters by whatever killed him.

Searching the mansion confirms your initial impression that it's deserted. It's easy to find food, furniture, and utensils; anything relevant to fighting demons is much harder to find. A vault on the second floor sports a fancy-looking lock; it's probably where Horgus kept his money.

The bard has no interest in breaking into the dead noble's safe, but says to the others, "Perhaps another safe house we could use, but that's about it."

Trawyn moves across the house to look out one of the back windows to see if there's a lawn, garden or grounds in the back.

Is there anywhere to um...inter/bury Horgus?

[Kish]

The area surrounding the mansion is devastated; it looks like the demons didn't feel like putting in the effort to get into a locked and deserted building when they had inhabited places to wreck and slaughter helpless people in. It doesn't look like Horgus had a garden even before the attack. Burying him near his mansion would be relatively easy.

[razorback]

"Perhaps. But, this is ground the demons have been over. I don't think we should linger long."
As Trawyn looks at the lawn, then to the body, and then back for a garden. "Doesn't take a mind reader to see what you are thinking, Trawyn. Come on, let's get it done and be on our way. I have no interest in whatever he had locked up. Once we have defeated these hordes, his family can claim their inheritance. as he looks for something to dig a grave, then helps to bury Horgus.

Trawyn nods to Jemus, "Let's to it then."

Once outside he locates a relatively undamaged spot near to the mansion, and helps dig a shallow grave. Doing his best to straighten the noble's clothes, he helps place the body in the grave and though it seems an indulgence he stops to speak a few words, "I knew this man but a little, and in that short time he struck me as neither the worst of us nor the greatest, but rather simply a man. He was man of wealth and title to be certain, but was filled with the same doubts and failings as us all while also possessing the same boundless spirit and potential that we all possess. Let this small act of remembrance stand as our mourning and honoring of our dead - for the thousands of innocents that have fallen to the evil that plagues this city....this world."

Be at peace. At least you managed to see the sky once more.

"Tellos had a good idea to get in. I know the spell too but don't have it prepared. If we lock the door behind us we can use the same method to get in next time." Semult checks on and around the inside side of the door to see if there is a key for easier access later.

During the funeral Semult kept quiet. He spoke up afterwards. "The food in the kitchen will just go to waste. Let's eat quickly before heading out. Unknown what the rest of the day will have us face."

After eating the conjurer is ready to head out.

You bury the body of Horgus Gwerm in front of his mansion. Occasional screams in the distance remind you of the state of the city, even if the ruins around you weren't enough of a reminder.

Tellos
Topaz Solutions seems as good a place as any to continue our investigation.

[razorback]

Jemus nods to Tellos. "If no one objects, lets get going. Which way is it? I'll scout out ahead. I'll wave you guys forward to keep coming and a closed fist means to hold. Any questions?" Once they agree and point him in the correct direction, Jemus moves foward quickly ahead of the others, slowing once he is about 50 feet ahead of everyone else.
