Re: The Complex of Doom (IC)
"Aly, get back here and finish that one off." Kricen points to the raptor on the other side of the grease spell from himself (Rb7). He then walks up to the closer dying raptor (Rb14). He uses his necromantic touch to finish it off, then the same touch to heal Aly. Once the blindness spell wears off from the zombie he directs it to push 2 of the dead raptors off the ledge. He has it drag the third one (Rb7) 20' further along the ledge and leave it there til morning. Kricen directs the undead to their guard duty positions and orders.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC)
Kricen wakes up fully rested. He gives a morning stretch to wake up with. As he gets up he looks around and sees the raptor heads on display. The dread necromancer gets irritated. He looks down along the ledge where he had the zombie babau place one of the more intact dead raptors and could tell its head was gone too. That irritated him more. "Who cut all of the heads off?! They are useful to us when whole! Remember the zombie dretch we had yesterday? It held off several raptors for longer than expected. My undead squad saved us from being totally overrun during that first assault. This complex is great for providing us with the very means for defeating it. We should be taking advantage of that. Argh."
Kricen went and relieved himself over the edge of the ledge. Rejoining the camp he ate his magically acquired food and drink while calming himself down somewhat. Ganis woke with a start. "Gah Raptors!" he mumbled a warning. Shaking the sleep from his head, he blushes. "err never mind." He finishes repacking his gear and gets ready to move out. Re: The Complex of Doom (IC)
An hour’s travel west along the ledge brings you to another one of the tall pillars that support the ceiling, jutting partway out of the wall. The ledge tilts down to ground level, as the large, round pillar cuts off its route along the wall. After circling the pillar, you see a ramp back up to another, similar ledge. This one is scratched up and has some debris piled on it.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC)
Continuing northwards on the ledge, travel is swift since there are no obstacles. A mere 40 minutes or so allows the group to cover over two miles, with Aly pacing along below. You hear some snarls and barks below that carry quite far, and answering noises ahead… and behind. A few of the noises from ahead are deeper and more resonating. Two raptors are following some 350’ back on the ledge, moving farther away if anyone fires arrows at them.
Torlak notices that some of the debris on the ledge is made of bone fragments.
As the group approaches the north wall, you see what must be the velociraptor nest through the trees. A mound of dirt, rocks, and bones rises nearly to the height of the ledge, before dropping off to form an inner bowl area. Water trickles down from above into the bowl, exiting and moving downhill through a cut in the mound to a swampy area. A strange blue glow lights the bowl, coming from a rocky crystalline protrusion.
A couple of raptors are perched on the ledge ahead, and several more on the lower part of the mound. Backing them up are two larger oversized velociraptors, towering over their fellows. Their tough, horny hides have a slight greenish and bluish glitter to them when the light catches them at the right angle.
Whatever has been making these dinosaurs strange has certainly taken effect with them. The two tentacles reaching from their back are long, and tipped with bony spikes. They look like they could reach about as far as Khurdrum’s spiked chain. A third large raptor appears to be trying – and failing – to hide in the bushes southwest of the nest. Based on your experience, it’s likely that some of the regular raptors are hiding more successfully, waiting to ambush you.
Atop the south wall of the mound, you also see a thin raptor lurking behind the others, looking at the approaching group of humans, dwarves, and undead. It's missing one leg, and supporting itself with its tentacles, but its eyes have a slight glow, and it seems very steady such a decrepit specimen. Lines criss-cross its body as though tattooed, although you might just be seeing scarring.
Spoiler: Map & Status
Map is clickable - it's too big for me to be able to screenshot & copy/paste with row & column labels showing!
The elevation changes are all actually gradual, and thus a 5’ altitude change does not alter movement or give a height advantage. I don't have a good way to show "is a slope"
Khurdrum Tyche’s Touch +4
Kricen Fear aura, Will DC16 or shaken, 5’ radius
Consider any pre-buff spells you would use as having cast as you approach – specify them in your next post.
If you want to adjust your starting positions, that’s fine. I defaulted to marching order.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC)
Kricen stops as the nest and its defenders come into view. He nods and displays a devilish grin. "Very interesting..." He casts a spell and there's a brief shimmering around his body.
"They've been patient, waiting for us to come into their trap. We need to do the same and be patient. We have the advantage of range and should keep that advantage. Best for us to whittle their numbers from afar. No need to rush this. Even if they move back as we slowly approach, they won't abandon their nest. That's when we can pick them apart until they come to us. When they do we still have the ledge to limit their options. Conserve your spells, chipping away at them could take a while. They'll probably try hit and run tactics before a big rush. My spells only reach 150 feet. I can summon more undead but those spells will last less than a minute."
"We see them ahead and behind us, but can anyone make out anymore down there hiding? Some early easy pickings would be nice. Pum, want to use the magic bow to make it easier to hit them at range? I have over 50 arrows you can use." Kricen steps up to the edge and looks outward over Aly, but his eyes keep wandering back to the nest.
"Anyone have caltrops? We can leave a surprise for the raptors behind us."
