Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Flickerdart, you can sort pokemon by "recent" if you want to find the one you just hatched (though I'm guessing you've caught more by now). It's sorted that way by default.
Oh and I also caught a Weepinbell in addition to the See (I have a feeling my last post in the old thread may be missed, so I'll mention it here if anyone feels like reading the block of text), so two new pokemon today, good for experience and the dex.
And I got my first Lucky Egg from level-up, which I'm sure I will never use until I go on vacation, which I'm guessing won't happen until I've already hatched a bunch of out-of-region pokemon anyway since my family just went on vacation.Last edited by Hiro Protagonest; 2016-07-13 at 08:36 PM.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
I caught a Vulpix at home today, though the game really tried to keep me from getting it, my trainer randomly ran off in a weird direction (usually how the trainer moves is predictable in my house but not this time). Course I can't do anything with it since it looks to be pretty rare.
My 5k egg hatched into a diglet! And my 10k egg us about halfway done.
I wish you had some actual control of the trainers meandering within a small area, there are so many points I couldn't interact with because they were right there but my trainer would walk anywhere bur to the stop, or my trainer would run away before the stop finished loading.

Yeah it's pretty disgusting the amount of time these students are packing into the game. At night they are roaming the campus in their brand new premium vehicles going below 20km/h because walking is for suckers. Luckily off campus it is a little better and the further away you go it generally normalizes into doable levels XD

Er... I'm not gonna make any commitment to updating this, but I'm going to try to repost the table of friend codes here best I can, and figure if someone else can do it better they can go ahead and do so. I know they're going to soon be less relevant because of Pokemon Go and new generation, but for those of
meus on flip phones, this is kinda important to have around.
Cheap Knock-Off Imitation of Mando Knight's Opening Post Stuff!
It does extra damage if the target is holding an item!
Pokemon XYORAS Friend Codes and Safaris (for some reason Super Secret Bases never really caught on here.)
Spoiler
You can only have 100 Friend Codes registered at a time.
To use the Friend Safari, you need to have defeated the Elite Four, and both you and your friend must have added each other. For more details, see here.

Spoiler: Breeding for DummiesSo, you're tired of navigating a Pokemon thread where everyone uses fancy words and stuff? Well no worries! Here's a guide on... BREEDING FOR DUMMIES!
One of the first things to remember in breeding is that there are Natures that help and ones that hinder. For instance, a Special Attacker such as Mewtwo would be hindered by an Adamant nature, but helped in his stat growth by a Modest nature. To improve your chances for getting a particular Nature in a child Pokémon, use at least one parent with the Nature you want, and give it the Everstone. In Gen IV, the Everstone doesn't guarantee the inherited Nature, though it does in Gen V and VI.
Brilliant Spreadsheet for Growth.
Some IVs (don't know what an IV is? Check the next spoiler box!) are randomly inherited from the parents. You can lock in a maximum of one IV by giving a parent the corresponding Power training item (Power Bracer for Attack, Power Lens for Special Attack, and so forth), or (starting with XY) randomly inherit 5 (instead of the normal 3) by holding the Destiny Knot. Use Flat Battles to determine the IVs of a hatched Pokémon, or if you only care about the highest IV and the sum of all of its IVs, you can take it to a guy who's in the lobby of either the Battle Tower or the Battle Subway in the DS games, depending on the generation, and in the Kiloude City Pokémon Center in XY. You're looking for them to judge it Relatively Superior overall and Can't Be Better in its best stat. The XY judge will also tell you about any really bad IVs the Pokémon has.
The third main thing with breeding is Egg Moves. Egg moves are moves the parent has, and passes down to a child. For instance, in my breeding of Chimchar, the egg moves are Grass Knot and Swords Dance, which are passed down to the child who gets said moves from the start. In order to pass on most Egg Moves, the father must know the move (Genderless Pokémon never learn Egg Moves). These include all of the moves that are listed as the child Pokémon's Egg Moves in a move list chart, as well as any compatible TMs or HMs. You can also pass on moves that the child would learn by level-up that aren't in those two lists--for these, both parents must know the move. In XY, some moves can be inherited from the mother...
The fourth and final thing to keep in mind are Hidden Abilities. Starting in Generation V, most Pokémon were assigned an additional ability that they could only get if you caught them under certain circumstances (the special Darmanitan in Desert Resort, or Pokémon found in hidden grottoes, the Dream World, or some in Friend Safaris). Some Hidden Abilities are highly sought-after, like Dragonite's Multiscale. If the mother has the Hidden Ability, the children will inherit it. The father can occasionally pass down the Hidden Ability if bred with a Ditto.
Spoiler: A Primer on How Stats WorkDon't feel the need to bother with this stuff unless you're playing against humans or at one of those "Battle Whatever" places. You shouldn't need it for most of the game, and it can be kind of a pain.
First, the equations. These are how the game calculates the Pokémon's final stats.
HP = (IV + 2*Base + EV/4) * Level/100 + 10
Others = ((IV + 2*Base + EV/4) * Level/100 + 5) * Nature
So, at level 100, 1 IV or 4 EV raises a Pokémon's stat by 1 while a 1 point difference in Base stat is worth 2.
Nature
Most natures raise one stat and lower another, while some don't change any stats. A raised stat has a multiplier of 1.1 (or +10%), a lowered stat has a multiplier of 0.9 (or -10%), and a neutral stat has a multiplier of 1.0.
Base Stats (Base)
With a new generation just out, there's a lot of talk about finding out about a Pokémon's base stats. What are these, some of you ask? Well, they're modifiers to stats that a Pokémon gains just by being that kind of Pokémon. A (normal) Tyranitar has a base Attack of 135, a Mewtwo has 154 base Special Attack, and so on. When a Pokémon's stats change as it Mega Evolves or changes Form, it does so by changing the set of base stats it looks at. Otherwise, these base stats can't be changed (hence the "base"). At level 100, a Pokémon gets twice its Base stat to its final stats.
Individual Values (IV)
In addition to base stats, every Pokémon gets a bonus of 0-31 points applied to each stat. So a level 100 Tyranitar could have an attack stat of 273, or it could have a attack of 304. That bonus is the IV.
A Pokémon has its IVs generated the moment you meet it, or accept its egg, and there's no way to change them. You're stuck with what you've got. However, you can influence them a little, if you're willing to breed. Bred Pokémon don't randomly generate all their IVs, they inherit up to 3 from their parents. In XY, giving a parent the Destiny Knot causes them to inherit five random IVs instead. There's a few other ways of influencing IVs in bred Pokémon, which are explained in the breeding section.
In addition, in XY, some Pokémon are guaranteed to have some "perfect" (31) IVs. Pokémon found in the Friend Safari will have two random perfect IVs, while Pokémon that can't breed will have 3.
Effort Values (EV)
Every time you win a fight, your Pokémon get experience, but that's not all they get. Every Pokémon also gives out effort points. For every 4 effort points in a particular stat, your Pokémon gains 1 point in it. So if that Tyranitar from earlier with 304 attack had 4 attack EVs, his actual attack would be 305. If he had 252 attack EVs, it'd be 367. Sounds handy, but there are limits. You can't have more than 255 points in a single stat, and you can't have more than 510 EVs in total.
You'll see a lot of Pokémon with 252 attack/special attack EVs, 252 speed, and 4 HP, but there are a lot of ways to configure them. Defensive Pokémon will obviously focus on different things, Pokémon which use both physical and special attacks will need to split EVs between them or possibly sacrifice speed, and so on.
It's a tremendous pain to work out what EVs your Pokémon has (if you weren't keeping track, anyway), so you'll likely want to start with a Pokémon that you freshly hatched and work from there, though you don't have to. There are 6 berries that reduce EVs in a single stat each, so you can use those to reset your Pokémon and start from scratch. After that, just keep a careful record of what you fight, and only take down Pokémon that you know give you the EVs you want.
EV training takes a while, but there are a few ways you can speed it up. The first is an astonishingly rare status condition called Pokérus. Any Pokémon with Pokérus gets double EVs from fights, and will spread the Pokérus to any Pokémon in your party for the first 72 hours after it catches it. After those 72 hours it stops being contagious, but still gets double EVs. Pokérus has something like 1/20000 chance to appear on wild Pokemon, but with the magic of the internet I'm sure you can obtain it.
The second way to speed up EV training is through Power Items. If a Pokémon is holding the right item, they get bonus EVs from every fight. For example, a Pokémon holding a Power Lens will get 4 special attack EVs. A Pokémon holding a Power Anklet will get 4 speed EVs. A Pokémon holding a Macho Brace will just get double the EVs of whatever they're fighting. These bonuses are doubled if you have Pokérus.
The third way to speed up EVs is through vitamins. Each vitamin given to a Pokémon gives them +10 EVs in a certain stat, up to a limit of 100. 1 protein gives 10 attack EVs, 10 give 100. These unfortunately aren't doubled by Pokérus or items, so you'll have to pay for the full amount. Luckily money is easy to come by in these games.
Just as an example, I'll show how I EV'd my Gengar.
First, I gave him 10 calcium, and 10 carbos, so 100 special attack and 100 speed already.
After that, I gave him Pokérus and a lucky egg, got him to meet a Floatzel (2 speed EVs, doubled to 4 because of Pokérus), and then sent out my Weezing to explode on it so Gengar could get all the experience, for a higher level and 100 special attack, 104 speed.
After that, I gave him a Power Lens, flew over to the Old Chateau, and killed 15 Gastly (1 special attack from Gastly, 4 from the lens, doubled to 10 from Pokérus) for 150 special attack EVs, bringing my total to 250 special attack, 104 speed.
After that I equipped a power anklet and killed one more Gastly (1 special attack from Gastly, 4 speed from the anklet, doubled to 2 and 8 from Pokérus), meaning Gengar had 252 attack, and 112 speed.
Leaving the anklet equipped, I flew to Route 201, and killed 14 Starly (1 speed from Starly, 4 from the anklet, meaning 10 speed per starly thanks to Pokérus), for a total of 252 attack, 252 speed.
All that was left after that was to kill a Bidoof with a Power Weight (1 HP from Bidoof, 4 from the Weight, 10 thanks to Pokerus, although I only gained 6 points because I hit the EV cap), leaving my Gengar with 252 special attack EVs, 252 Speed, and 4 HP, just how I wanted him.
Roughly an hour's work, and one Pokemon down.
In XY, there's an additional method of EV training, which doesn't involve beating up wild Pokémon, but you instead play minigames (called Super Training) with the Pokémon. This lets you choose which stat you'll train, and awards you 4 EVs per difficulty level (so +4 for level 1, +12 for level 3). In addition, you may gain special training bags that can make further Super Training easier, reset your EVs entirely, or other effects. The training system also displays your earned EVs graphically (but not numerically), making it somewhat easier to keep track of a Pokémon's EVs.
tl;dr: The simplified version of EVs/IVs - EVs are gained by fighting other Pokémon. They vary by the Pokémon defeated. They increase your stats for every 4 gained. IVs are inherent to a Pokémon. They increase stats for every point possessed, and range from 0 to 31. EVs have to be manually tracked or else removed entirely with certain berries. IVs can be checked by knowing the EVs of a Pokémon and then plugging its stats into an IV calculator. The higher the Pokémon's level, the more accurate; level 100 wifi battles provide maximum accuracy.
Now, you might ask, "Mando Knight, how do you get those accented e's?" On a PC, change your keyboard layout to US-International, and press 'e. For some versions of Windows, if you don't want the US-International keyboard on all the time, you can also have it switch between different registered keyboards with a press of Ctrl+Shift. You can also copy-paste them from someone else's posts. Or the thread title.
Now, you might also ask, "Oracle of Wuffing, how do you get those accented e's on MacOS?" On a Mac, that's Option+e, followed by the letter to which you want to apply the accent. In short, Option+e, followed by e. And if you want to know how to type it on Linux, uh, check the repositories?Last edited by OracleofWuffing; 2016-08-15 at 07:13 PM. Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
I'm working on a few Nuzlocke runs and could use some team-building suggestions. Victory Road was a pain. Long story short, I'm right before the Elite Four on Pokemon Black and White (parallel runs), but my team is down to 4 Pokemon each and I'm in need of replacements.
The only legal catches I have left are Reshiram and Zekrom, but they're after the Elite Four anyway.
The other issue is, due to some custom rules I'm using, any Pokemon I use for the Elite Four and their evolutions I can't use in my next set of runs, which will be Black 2 and White 2, so the starters are an issue. My initial plan if I had a full team at this point was to replace the starters with the legendaries so I could use the starters in the sequels.

Seems like I might be able to get on (knock wood) early morning UK time when the rest of the people on the US server are mostly asleep. Gonna go hit up some monuments in a few minutes and hope the game doesn't crash too much.
Well, it's still freezing more often than not when I'm waiting for a catch to register.
Any tips for throwing the ball? I suck at this. Especially for flying things like Zubat.Last edited by noparlpf; 2016-07-14 at 02:07 AM.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Nuzlocke suggestions:
For Black, Relaxed Magic Guard Sigilyph is entirely reasonable and utterly destroys Marshall if you're worried about that. Brave Intimidate Herdier is super strong and learns Crunch which works well against Caitlin, Shauntal, and a couple of Ghestis's Pokemon. Scraggy is fantastic, as it's strong against Caitlin, Shauntal, and Grimsley, although you already have Conkeldurr so you don't need that much help.
For White, most of your Box Pokemon aren't super useful because the natures are pretty bad; if you're trading with yourself, you might want to take one or two from your Black version. Solosis is okay but the nature is wrong, and the same with Karrablast. Deino would be good if it didn't become Hydreigon at Lv. 64. You want something against Ghestis's Hydreigon, as it's pretty prone to killing things and can be hard to defeat. Make sure Samurott has a good Ice move and is high enough in special defense to take Hydreigon's powerful attacks. If you're trading with yourself, I suggest many of the same Pokemon as I did above, plus potentially Joltik just for the helpful type coverage.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Best I can suggest is to just practice, it took me a little while to get the hang of it too. Besides, after a while you'll likely be ignoring Zubats on the map anyways and honestly I can't actually think of anything else with such frantic animation, most everything else sits more or less still (unless attacking, but you can't catch them when they do that anyways). Actually sometimes things do jump or try to dodge the ball, but it's not as regular as you might expect, half the time they jump right into the ball instead of away from it.
Also man, I had quite a day today in Pokemon Go.
So tired of the monotony of my local Pokemon choices I decided to explore a bit. First I went downtown to the Bay in a desprate hope to finally find some water-types... only to not be able to find a public wifi signal. So much for that. While I was downtown I went through the mall as well. Managed to, ugh, get myself a rather high CP Jinx.
After that I decided to spend the rest of the day wandering the university campus both to try to get some egg hatching in (hatched three eggs, still nothing good or worth mentioning) and while I was there not only caught a 911 CP Pinsar but also a wild Pidgeot (800 something, way higher then anything I had), and evolved my Growlithe into a monstrous (for me) CP 945 Arcanine. Also finally got ahold of a Gastly, long long ways away from getting a Gengar though.
Then I got home and found a Charmander waiting for me.Last edited by BiblioRook; 2016-07-14 at 04:13 AM.

What trainer level is everyone? I'm 10 (will hit 11 today) and the highest CP I've found is a 313 Clefairy. My highest atm is the Tangela I hatched at 515 and that was after I powered it up to full...

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Currently level 10 here and my strongest catch is a 407 Pinsir. I've got a whole mess of stardust saved up but I'm not sure what I'll be spending it on yet. The gyms in my area tend to have 800+ monsters defending them, so I've yet to do much in the way of combat.
What are the most common catches in you area, folks? Tons of Rattatta, Pidgey, Ekans and Zubat where I live, with plenty of Growlithe and Geodude to be had as well. For a coastal city I've seen surprisingly few water types, even when walking along the waterfront. Krabby and Psyduck, mostly.Truth resists simplicity.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
I'm only level 8, snd thd most common pokemon in my apartment is Drowzee and Zubat. With a mix of ghastly, nidoran (m), squirtle, horsea, crabby, and jinx, which are also slightly less common. There is also the really basic fare, but they don't show up much here in particular. they do more on the walking path.
Even more uncommon but consistently showing up are tauros, seel, shelder. oddish, paras, and bellsprout.
Occasionally evolved forms show up, like there wad a kingker lurking nearby last night.
There are also some I've only seen once. Like vulpix, polywag, onix, seaking, magikarp, and just now a koffing and slowpoke spawned too, but I'm out of pokeballs at the moment.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
With this last walk, I can safely say that the majority of whats within a 6 block radius consists of nothing but pidgey, rattata, weedle, and drowzee. Uncommonly you can find Venonats. Anything else is rare to see, and even lures/incense doesn't help with variety.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
I hit 11 last night, highest CP I caught was a 400 Tauros. I did hatch a Snorlax, however, and he came with 16 candies. Spent them and at least 8k stardust, so I have a 957 CP Snorlax that was holding a gym overnight. Now I'm looking for more Snorlax candies, or my next big windfall to power something up.
I've found that no matter how high I level, I'm probably still going to want to catch every Pidgey and Zubat I can find. Catching pokemon is the only way to get stardust, and every 100 counts. Seems to me like the single most important stat we have is our trainer level, as everything else scales off of that. I have plans to push that as high as I can, as fast as I can.
Oh, and one frustrating thing last night.. I saw the silhouette of a Blastoise "nearby" downtown. But if I moved ten feet in any direction, it disappeared. Couldn't figure out where it was, so I had to give up and go home.Pokemon friend code : 3067-5701-8746
Trade list can be found on my Giant League wiki page, all pokemon are kept in stock with 5 IVs, most with egg moves, some bred for Hidden Powers. Currently at 55 in stock and counting.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Stardust does indeed go fast and grow slowly. And I agree that trainer level is the key stat here, in particular as it unlocks rarer and higher CP pokemon as it grows. Pidgey in particular is a great catch since you can turn every fourth Pidgey or so into a Pidgeotto for a nice chunk of xp. Caterpie and (I think) Weedle are also good for this. Evolving to Raticate is 25 candies, so Rattattas also make for a goodish grinding catch as well.
I'm currently saving up Pidgey and Rattatta candies to pop all at once after using my Lucky Egg for a big XP rush. I've picked up a fair number of Zubats but at 50 candy per evolve Zubat is very good at... being Zubat I guess. Omnipresent, annoying to fight and barely worth anything.
Does anyone know if incense and bait pokemodules stack? Also, any idea if they tend to attract rarer pokemon?Truth resists simplicity.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Same here, though I've been at this for only a few hours total and have to be really miserly with my data usage. 500MB can disappear real quick.
Amusingly, all the Drowzee appear around my work, which explains so much.
Got a number of Stops in close proximity to both work and home, though, so that's a plus. 3 stops near my house are all on the same footpath, even.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
This is the Pokemon Go support group, right? My wife got me into this, so I expect she's going to bail on it in a few days and I'll still be time sinking. Anyway, really poor cell coverage around my home, but went to Chinatown in Chicago yesterday. Good lord there were a lot of pokestops. Meanwhile my home is just bugs, birds, and rats. Not even the better ones, the sad ones. Lots of wheedles and rattatas and occasionally spearow or pidgey.
I used to live in a world of terrible beauty, and then the beauty left.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Sigilyph and Stoutland both sound like solid choices. Hell in a previous run I swept most of N and Ghetsis with a Stoutland that had the elemental fangs.

Samurott can't learn any Ice moves. It doesn't learn Frost Breath or Blizzard and Ice Beam isn't available until after the E4. I can use a Heart Scale to teach it Megahorn though.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
I can't really confirm or deny, Pokemon Go hasn't used THAT much data for me, but I'm wifi most of the time anyway.
Going to be playing it a bit less while servers are beefed up and the initial rush fades a little. Can't reliably get to any pokestops to restock anyway due to working like a normal person."And if you don't, the consequences will be dire!"
"What? They'll have three extra hit dice and a rend attack?"

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Yeah, I did that. Though I don't have any data usage prior to doing that to compare it to so I have no idea if it actually did anything.
I work next to a major mall with public wifi (and like, four Gyms and six Stops), so it's not like I couldn't grind there without using data if I really wanted/needed to. Though honestly I only see myself actively walking around maybe once or twice a week, so I shouldn't have any problems as long as I keep an eye on things.

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
Well, when I turned on Go this morning, I saw a Pikachu right in my range. But the game was acting up and the pokemon weren't spawning, only shadows next to me. So I restart, and the pokemon showed up properly. I tap on the Pikachu, and... it disappears. No battle screen where it flees, it just disappears.
RNG.
To make up for it though, a bit later a strong Scyther spawned right on top of me and I caught it in one ball. But it has Steel Wing, and I haven't seen a single rock-type around here, while water-types are common and electric-types are being powered up to counter those. I guess it would have super-effectiveness against Jynx?
Edit: And I just found a Beedrill! Of course, it's noticeably weaker than the Scyther. But Beedrill.Last edited by Hiro Protagonest; 2016-07-14 at 11:12 AM.

Ok I just caught both an Onyx AND a Geodude in a span of about 30 seconds. First time I've seen any rock types around here

Re: Thread XXVI: Pokemon Go Outside. Please. Just Go outside. We're begging you.
I just sat on the street loading and reloading the app repeatedly to try to catch a Horsea. Meanwhile, I saw at least two other people walk by, pause briefly to catch it, smile smugly, and keep going. **** me.
I did have a pretty good run of it this morning while most of the US was asleep, but since about 11AM UK time it's been getting progressively laggier and crashing more.
I tried on the off chance it would reduce server requests and make my game less buggy and it doesn't seem to have done anything.Jude P.

So it turns out the gym in my building has both wifi they let me use and is close enough to the Stop that I could farm it while working out. Also turns out that the guy on the machine next to me had the exact same idea.
Sure beats the heck out of watching the news.

I don't know if you are being passive aggressive but that is clearly not the case. I mean sure Pokemon Go is what people want to talk about right now because that's what's newest and hast the most going on, but trust me there will be plenty of non-Go talk once the next bit of Sun and Moon info gets released.
That being said; currently level 15 and aside from the usual Rattatas, Pidgeys, and Zubats my area seems just awash in Paras and Ekans, the likes of Venonat, Mankeys, and Meowths to a lesser degree. Aside from that we also seem to have a lot of Fire types. Mostly Growlithe but I also see Vulpix and Ponytas enough to comment on it. I even see Charmanders 'nearby' a lot, but to date only actually ran into one.Last edited by BiblioRook; 2016-07-14 at 01:19 PM.
