Megan joins Leslie to sit and watch the others. "How do they still have energy left for all this...?" It's probably because they haven't been charging around museums all day; you have no cause to regret sitting this one out.

It's only a bit of fun, anyway. Some people aren't wearing sensible shoes, for starters, and several of your non-Lilywhite classmates end up joining in, looking rather clownish alongside the academy prospects. After about half an hour, everyone has burned off their excess energy and the teachers start rounding people up. AJ and Desiree are the last to show up, looking rather ruffled - knowing looks are exchanged all around.

On the train back, Dr. Robinson (a science teacher) looms over you like some kind of malevolent spirit. "Well girls, what did we learn today?"

"Cool. Say, where is your accent from, anyway?" It is true that you've never really talked about where you're from. Perhaps there's a reason for that, but Lottie's interest in it seems to be harmless curiosity, so why not indulge her?

Don' look ta me, Lottie. I don't know anything about her, so I'm not getting involved.

Nikki just shrugs. "I'm not about to pry into that one. There are some things that you can't find out without them becoming burdensome."

You collectively agree to drop the subject. There will probably be better times to talk about this stuff once you've gotten to know each other a bit better.

The day after your trip, you're in the middle of an intense training session. Miss Walker has you doing the defensive drills she threatened last week, which is bad enough, but then someone gets overzealous and goes sliding in on AJ. She's hurt pretty badly and ends up going to hospital with Desiree glued to her side. After that, things get heated when Lottie confronts the girl responsible: "what the hell were you playing at, Alex? You could have broken her leg!"

"Oh piss off, freak. I won the ball, innit?"

Lottie slaps her, and it looks like things are going to go downhill from here...

Even besides the moral issues, in a real game, that would be a red right there! Calm down, everyone! It's just a practice!"

Lottie! Leslie, having been standing nearby as everyone saw AJ off, grabbed ahold of Lottie by the arm.

Don't. Don't do this. I... Leslie hesitates. Holding her other fist up to her mouth as she ponders exactly what to say next, her voice comes out in a soft whisper.

I don't want to see you get hurt. Losing AJ is bad enough, but losing you? The Captain?

And worse, a fight would mean the whole team would get involved. And Leslie doesn't want to get hurt, or see her friend get hurt.

Lottie and Alex take a step back and look around sheepishly while the coach hurries over (she was dealing with the ambulance up to this point). "Girls! What is the meaning of this?"

"I... I got carried away. I'm sorry."

"That's right, you're sorry. It's a good thing these three have sensible heads on their shoulders." You get the feeling she is making a mental note: your places in the line-up are surely even more secure now.

Afterwards, Lottie seeks out Leslie and hugs her. "Thank you, Les. What you said really helped to calm me down."

A quick spat was only to be expected. Things shouldn't escalate beyond that though, and certainly shouldn't continue off the field.

She proceeds to explain today's team selection, which is somewhat unusual...
