Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Ahh, hehe. I must have failed to look at your location, so it wasn't that easy to tell. After all, it's a matter of perspective. In the least populated parts of Sweden, $34'000 can get you a pretty large house in decent condition. The implications of this are quite depressing, though...

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Once, in school, the class I was part of took a walk to the park and we played Hide and Seek. I hid so well the teacher thought I had walked back to the school and I had to stand up in order to avoid getting in trouble.
The next time we went to that park, the teacher announced something like "Everyone except {my name}, we're going to play Hide and Seek."

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Just had someone tell me that alcoholism isn't a real problem.
I'll bring it up at the next AA meeting I attend, eh?
In all fairness to the gentleman, once he found out I was a former alcoholic he was super apologetic and mortified at himself.
Still a ****ty thing to say in the first place, though.

I would really like to see a game made by Obryn, Kurald Galain, and Knaight from these forums.
I'm not joking one bit. I would buy the hell out of that. -- ChubbyRain

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Damn. Just damn.
A study/studies in Finland have shown that it takes approximately five years on a workplace to aknowledge alcoholism. Like, everyone might know about it, but for a long time it's swiped under the carpet with excuses especially if the employee gets their job done. It's only at the point of desperation that they decide to take action. So much for prevention, eh...
Glad to hear you're recovering.Originally Posted by LaZodiac

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
It's nitpicky, but, well, prevention is only about trying to make the problems not appear in the first place. Good prevention can actually make people less likely to take decisive action once problems do occur, since people will be more likely to look for alternative explanations when the correct one seems far-fetched or like something which someone else should have taken care of.
The implications are that there is nothing at all to build a life on in those places any longer. I mean, Detroit has given me the impression of having become a quite depressing place in the last decade(s) as well...Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Forum quirks. Time to get used to it, I suppose.
EDIT:
oops, forgot this.
Allow me to nitpick as well. Prevention is not only about trying to make issues not appear in the first place. In addition to trying to make things not happen, it's also about tackling the issue before it spirals down to, well, for example that 5 year cycle of ignoring alcoholism.
Prevention can happen at any point of the issue, but at some point it's connected to reparative work more or less. The latter does not get rid of the preventive side of it.Last edited by FinnLassie; 2017-04-25 at 09:02 AM.

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Because the human brain is sort of wired to emphasize the negative. It's why we always have stories about how the dice ****ed us over in DND but have far less stories on how they went our way. That said yeah, the forum is pretty well behaved and nice barring a few flare ups. Speakin' of you should definitely check out my game threads if that's something you're into. People like watching me play and talk about the video games.

Thank you for the invitation. I'd be thrilled to check them out when I get the chance.
You'll have to bear with me, though. I'm a bit of a hopeless old duff when it comes to video games.

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
Well, that's also because a vast majority of all rolls are for doing something we players expect to succeed on, so the unexpected (and thus memorable) result is usually a screw-up. There are, after all, a good amount of stories out there of players performing the most ridiculous stunts and getting away with it because the dice happened to all be rolling in their favour.
But yeah, I've seen entire forum threads for online TCGs where everyone is dead certain that the RNG is implemented to shuffle their cards into unplayable hands. The fact that no programmer in their right mind (and by this I mean "not a full-blown mad scientist") would ever do this doesn't matter to them.Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
In that case there's also the fact that actual decks of cards tend not to be perfectly randomized by a typical shuffle. If you don't really work at it, you get clumps based on the last game, which is not random; if you do work at it, you're probably aiming to smoothly disperse what was clumped, which is also not random and tends towards more playable hands in most CCGs.
"Actually random" is likely to be less playable than "my resource cards are evenly mixed with my doing-things cards, which are themselves not particularly clumped towards any particular sort," but the latter is what a "good shuffle" tends to push towards. So in a sense, randomness does push towards less playable hands.Last edited by Qwertystop; 2017-04-26 at 12:21 AM.

If I've learned anything from my years at the Hold Em tables it's that the actual cards are fairly immaterial.
They give you the door but you gotta go in through the window.

Unless they up and show you their cards they might as well not exist.
To properly determine the power of his hand your stock, trade and barter are his body language, his betting habits and his words.
It's up to you to sort out the misdirection and the intimidation from the truth.
The cards light the powder-keg, but the game is played between the people.

Re: WarKitty's Feline Frenzy Random Banter #216
There is a fair amount of probability to it as well. You don't know what the other players have, but if you're good with numbers (or have enough experience that you've internalised it) you will know what the chances are that another player has a hand better than yours, what the chances are of a card helpful to you/them coming up on the next draw is, and so on.
Playing the player is the most important part of the game, but you're playing with one hand tied behind your back if you're not analysing the cards properly.GITP Blood Bowl Manager Cup
