Default Grayham Academy: A Homebrew HSHC Game

Grayham Academy for Supernatural Education. A respected place of education for teenage witches, angels, demons, nymphs, and other strange things that may or may not go bump in the night, where they can learn to coexist peacefully with humans while also learning to reach their full potential. As perhaps the most respected private institution for the supernatural in the country, they are naturally very selective about their students, prioritizing both those showing great promise and those who may need their help the most. Because of this, while humans on staff are nothing new, every student of Grayham Academy has had at least one foot in the supernatural, making the school itself a rather exciting, if exclusive, place to get a high school education.

But this year, that could change. For reasons not entirely clear, the headmaster of the school has decided that it was time for regular, non-magical, average teenagers to join the student body of Grayham, and thus has created the Human Ally Scholarship for this school year, in order to see whether or not integrating Grayham students with the mundane population would be viable. Some believe it to be a great idea, but a lot of parents, supernatural and mundane alike, believe that it may cause divisiveness and hostility within the student body, and previous alumi argue that it might tarnish the legacy of this proud school and cheapen its entire purpose.

Regardless of whether or not this is a good idea though, Grayham Academy's newest freshmen (that's you!) are in for one interesting year. It's up to you whether that is a good thing or not.

    Episode 1, Scene 1

It's move-in day, and you all thankfully arrived early enough that by the afternoon, you are situated and (mostly) unpacked. As you wander the school in an attempt to escape the hustle and bustle cased by the other girls trying to get moved in, you spot a young brown-haired boy looking around the halls very confused, and trying his best not to stare too long at any of the odder-looking students.

"Um, hey, can someone help me-" he starts, before being interrupted by a ghost woman suddenly phasing through one wall to get across the hall and through the wall on the other side.

"Does anyone know where the administration wing... building... area is?" he finished, not quite having recovered his bearings yet. He goes on ignored, drowned out by the crowd to most. Luckily for him you showed up then!

    Spoiler: Unopposed Roll
    Show
Allure D6: You're not 100% sure where the administration office is either, but this kid might appreciate some company. Plus, he's just too hot to ignore!

Skill D6: You may be just as new to this school as he is, but you happen to have something he doesn't: a map! Use it to help him navigate the area.

Conflict D6: There's just no escaping this crowd, is there? Get aggressive and thin the crowd out to help the poor guy (and you) get some breathing space.

Luck D6: You're new here too, but if you're lucky, you might be able to use your gut instinct to guide you and the boy there. Or a lucky accident could send you careening into the office. Whatever works.

All options give +1 VP on success.

Rosemary had been heading to the office. Still carting around Vera. (Her computer) Her friend Rachelle constantly being distracted by the occasional succubus, or nymph. Rosemary for her part just wanted to get to her dorm, and set Vera down where she wasn't constantly in danger from ******** students that couldn't tell you the difference between wi-fi and ethernet.

That's why. Even though she saw him, she was so tempted to just move past. Let someone else deal with the problem. The school had officials right....

Before she knew it though she had said. Hey, Ray come with me. She requested, pulling out her tablet.... Disappointed in how slow it turned on compared to her desktop. Although normal people would have never seen anything turn on nearly as fast as Rosemary's gear, Rosemary was attuned to her tech in ways no human could possibly imagine, she was used to more speed from her gadgets.

What the hell was up with this piece of ****. Rosemary wondered, as she closed her eyes. Instantly, it was like the hum of the tablet magnified, as those she could see all the circuits and the motherboard light up like a thousand points of light. But some of what she expected to see. It didn't shine.

****ing piece of **** processor. That's the last time I buy from Magicorp She thought to herself. Outside she only sighed, as a spark of magic came from her and into the processor. Working on fixing it as she looked up to the boy.

Okay, one sec. Let me.. Before she could say look it up, she already had it. Down there. She said pointing. Sorry it took so long. Name's Rosemary by the way. Yours?

Turning to the gothic girl she grinned as she shoved her way through the crowd.

"These dorms are huge! Well, compared to the inside of a mech... let's see..." Oblivious to the crowd around her, Erika pulls up her quest list, the semi-translucent screen appearing in front of her vision glowing faintly blue. "Main quest is done for the day, besides administration. Side quests! Join a club; not available yet. Extra credit: not available, and boooring. Get in a fight? Nah, not yet, too much bad karma to start off." Closing the list in disgust, Erika cranes her neck, trying to look past all of the (generally much taller) people around her. "That's it? c'mon, somebody throw me a quest!"

Then she saw him. She could almost see the marker above his head. A quick glance back at her quest list confirms it; Help Mysterious Boy Find Administration, under... main quests?

She'll figure that out later. Erika clicks Accept and closes the list with a grin. "Hey, give him some room, people! New student, coming through! Make some space!" For all of her five-feet-nothing of height, Erika can shove when she wants to; life spent working on and piloting mechs gave her more strength than one would expect.

So 'ne Mist!, the tall brunette thought to herself, wishing she had any idea of where she was going. She was supposed to be looking for the ... what was it called again? Maitenance? Admin-irgendwas? She sighed and sifted through the crowd to take a brief pause at the edge, her hands rummaging through her backpack looking for the piece of paper. She pulled out a notebook and flips through a few pages, finally finding what she was looking for. The page was simply a table of translations for herself, having jotted down the English words along with the German translations she had gotten from Google. Underlined with thick, red pen was the word Schulverwaltung, with an arrow pointing to what one could only conclude to be the words she as actually looking for. "Sh-shool adminstrayshunnn..." she practiced, the words not quite sitting well in her mouth. This would be so much easier if only she had actually paid more attention in the English classes. She looked around for a moment, but the lack of signage in the dormitories weren't helpful. Asking someone for help would just be even more awkward, maybe the crowd would just take her to the right place?

Packing her notes back away, she moves her backpack back onto her back. The motion causes one of the spaghetti straps of her sundress to slide off her right shoulder, not that she noticed. Or cared for that matter. She had almost walked out from her parents' home almost entirely naked again, though her mother had caught her before walking out. Es ist sowieso viel zu warm, dass ich was anziehen sollte... The thoughts of getting back to her natural state of undress occupied her as she moved back into the crowd, simply following the horde as it moved through, babbling in a language she barely understood. Her eyes kept looking over the walls and ceilings, hoping to find something that had the unfamiliar word she was looking for.

Then she saw him, the lost-looking boy standing on the edge of the hallway. She smiled, empathizing with what appeared to be his hesitant reaction to all the odd things they both had seen so far today. She worked her way through the crowd, towards him. At least he'd be able to read the signage, she was certain they could just pick a direction and just start looking for signs. If the school offices weren't marked for the lost and confused, this American school was already more inefficient than she feared.

Ava Marks quietly walks through the hallway to her locker, a mundane aura of displeasure around her. The girl honestly had no desire to come to this school. The supernatural students were weird, the humans were prissy, and she hated that she had been so fortunate to have this once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of it all. Her parents didn't care for her thoughts on the matter, obviously. "Oh, it will be a great experience for you! You'll grow as a person!" No more than at any other school, and she had enough trouble relating to anyone there already.

    "Unwilling to go
My protests fall on deaf ears
    A troubled first day."

She smirks a little. At least the tedium of this ordeal would provide her more inspiration for her writing.

"An eldritch academy roamed by figments
Once sequestered, locked away from sight.
Yet now I walk these halls,
Through the paintings of Poe with the eyes of Elliot.
    A chill-"

The specter passing through a wall gives the girl pause, and is what initially draws her gaze to the lost boy. He was rather cute, in the same way that a homeless kitten was cute. Seeing him jostled around by the crowd reminds Ava of her own discomfort with the crowd. Instinctively, she elbows a random student near her. "Move it!" she says to a boy dressed mostly in black, though a different style from her own - his clothes looked older and more traditional - shoving him away from her more than a little roughly as he tumbles toward a locker.

    "You are all but clots
    Constricting veins of the school.
    I wish to move free."

Without directly acknowledging the boy, Ava continues her aggressive movement through the hallway, though, totally by coincidence, ends up clearing a path toward the administration wing.

"That's unacceptable. That's not acceptable at all..." an orange-haired girl wearing a Japanese-style school uniform mumbled to herself as she was pushed - again! - by some overly enthusiastic student. From her backpack, a melodic beeping sounded, as if agreeing with her words. "Look, it appears even natives are struggling to find anything here... I really have to do something about it."

Thus deciding, she pushed herself off the ground lightly and raised to a height of approximately six feet - and stayed there. It sure gave a better view... to her, at the school grounds, and to anyone who bothered looking, under her skirt. Not that she cared, not really used to the specifics of different units of Earth clothing.

    "Come here"
, she extended a hand to the lost-looking boy, offerig to pull him to her height - hopefully that would help him with locating... whatever he was looking for. If not... she had a backup plan in her backpack. A beeping plan.

Luna sighs. There are too many people here, I can barely hear myself think.

She stops, confused. There was a boy in front of her, but something seemed off. The boy himself was nothing impressive, but it was clear that others didn't think so; Luna could feel more than a few people around her working to impress him. Well, with all these people trying to impress him, there has to be something special about him. I suppose I could afford to try as well, even if it draws some unwanted attention.

She begins to shove her way through the crowd, making her way to the boy. "Gods, it's crowded. You look like you could use some help getting through these people." Turning away, she begins to shove her way through the crowd again. "You coming?"

Sadly, you end up shoving the wrong person in your quest to complete your quest. And the big guy looks none too happy as he ends up dropping his suitcase, spilling clothing and papers everywhere.

"Hey runt! What's the big idea?" he shouts, fire literally spurting from his mouth for a moment. On your HUD, the 'Get in a Fight' side quest reappears, this time highlighted and with a green checkmark beside it. After you are given your reward, the side quest list updates with a new side quest: 'End the fight, one way or another'.

The boy either hand't heard you or hesitated too long, as you end up losing him in the crowd. However, your shoving ends up leading you directly to another crowd... this one surround a sort girl and a rather large looking fellow. A ring of students had started forming around them, watching anxiously.

"Are we really going to be having a fight before classes even start?" girl with cat ears, a tail, and a light coat of fur on her arms mutters in a mix of exasperation and fright.

"Thanks for the help, I had no idea where I was going," he said gratefully, "And the signs here certainly aren't helping."

The pushing, shoving frenzy you were on eventually ends up knocking a werewolf running full-tilt off balance, allowing a smaller girl to duck into the administration office proper.

"Dammit!" he snarled, before glaring at Ava, and starting to close distance, "YOU! What's with you humans not understanding just what kind of den you've walked into? Looks like I've got to give out two lessons today..."

Lets go with Luck, strong roll. +2 from Kanji Illiterate, she's hoping that he'll pick up on signs or arrows as long as she gets him away from the crowd.
Unfortunately, you are unable to get to the boy before someone else does, and they end up leading him away from you. Still hopelessly lost, you end up running right into a rather angry looking werewolf.

"Oh, you have got to be kidding me," he snarled, "Four humans picking on me in less than three minutes? That has got to be a new record.

He bares his claws and growls, "Well, I'm not running away this time. Time you normies learned who the top dog around here is!"

Erika jumps back from the burst of fire, dropping into an easy fighting stance. "Well, hello, hot stuff!" she snarks, an easy grin on her face as she notes the crowd forming around her. If I'm going to start with bad karma, I may as well have some fun with it! "Sorry about the bag; little people and big crowds aren't the best mixture. Are you on the same side-quest? A good brawl before we start this whole 'school' quest could be some fun!" She bounces on the balls of her feet excitedly, green eyes intent on the giant man before her. "If you'd rather dodge the bad karma, we can just drop this and I'll help ya pick your stuff up, though that's not nearly as fun. Wait, you have a karma meter, right? I can never remember if you 'real' people have that stuff," she continues, making exaggerated air quotes around the word.

She continues bouncing, her mouth running a mile a minute. "Say, how do you do that fire-breath thing, anyways? I swear, all this magic stuff is awesome, and it would be so useful against the Empire. With adaptive systems and a secondary fuel tank, you could pilot a mech that can breathe fire fifty feet long. In space! Wouldn't that be awesome?"

Bumping into the rather muscular werewolf while being lost in thought only brought out a rather muffled "MMM-ph" from Annika as her train of jumbled thought was interrupted to suddenly. She took a step back to collect herself just in time to see claws being bared and hearing the low growl from the lone wolf. She brought her hands up, backing away slowly. That was how you dealth with wolves right? Or were you supposed to play dead? She didn't know, in any case she wasn't looking for trouble. "Sorry, sorry," she mumbled, her 'r's still rolling as she slipped into the reflexive angliscism so common in Germany, but simply a rather peculiar pronunciation in English-speaking areas. "I am not looking for any troubles, I am ... I am looking for the student offices." She took another step back, hands up in surrender to the fight she didn't even want to break out. Her lips rolled down into a slight pout, hoping that her clear intentions and body language would be enough to have her furry obstacle leave her alone.

Pushing through the crowd, Luna finds the boy has disappeared. She spends a few moments podering what it was that made him so special, before finding herself in the front of a ring surrounding two people. It was pretty clear that the two people were going to fight. Both of them look pretty eager for a fight. Might be good for them, help them blow off a little steam before school starts.

Luna turns away, pushing through the crowd again, until she comes to what looks to become a slightly more one-sided fight between a werewolf and a girl who just wanted to walk away. Oh, god****it. Stupid, stupid wolf. Does he really have to start picking on the normals? She grabs the werewolf's shoulder and tries to pull him away from Annika. "Enough, dog. What is this? You think you're the alpha of this school, or whatever?"

Complete bull****, of course, but one of the only real personality traits I have for her so far is that she hides her werewolf-ness, because humans used to hunt them all the time. And so, she pretends to be human. At the same time, though, she also tries to help other werewolves, because they're her kind and there aren't many left and stuff. Could have sworn there was a lot more to it than that, but for the life of me I just can't remember it.

So, because of this, she is making sure to physically appear completely human. No Partial Shapeshifting or Song of the Moon until it's either called-for plotwise or just plain funny.

Not as much XP as fighting him probably would have given him, but you do get a boost in good karma at least.

"Not sure if we'll be getting replacements outside of mail orders. I took a quick look around town from the air, this place isn't very... well, modern, if you catch my drift. I think there's like, one Radioshack in the whole town."

"Thanks," he said, taking the offer, "You saw what did this?"

Okay, but I will say that other werewolves at least will be able to tell by scent, since I would of had this guy react differently before had I known you were trying to hide it. Unless you can come up with a better justification for why that isn't so, at least.

"Good," she says simply, happy to make sure the boy really was human. "Just as excited as ever to go to school with a bunch of monsters?" Ava asks, voice drenched in sarcasm.

Luckily, no fighting was necessary, and thus you didn't need to use any robot abilities that would blow your cover too early.

"I'm Jon, by the way," the boy said to the girls, after things calmed down.
Gyne gave the boy her best 'warm but polite' smile. "Nice to meet you, Jon. My name is Gyne," she replied.

"Karma's about evened out, but slightly on the positive! Great!" Erika closes the reward box with a flourish, immediately bending down to start gathering up the papers. "Yeah, no problem! I always preferred being in positive karma rather than negative. And hey, almost no one here has been in space before, and pretty much no one's been in a mech. You don't even use adaptive amplifiers! To me, you're all crazy." She chuckles, shaking her head.

"Say, I never caught your name. I gave you mine, so yours is only fair," she continues, holding out a bundle of clothes and papers towards the other student. "And you never said how you did that fire-breathing thing. I'd take a guess, but I was always more of a science fiction than a fantasy gal."

Rosemary physically and noticeably heaves at this.

This was a mistake, this was a mistake. She replies starting to panic as she grips Rachelle's tablet so hard her knuckles start turning white.

That's fine. Won't be too many werewolves around to blow Luna's cover, and she can probably convince enough of them to keep quiet about it to stay hidden for a while, at least. Since this wolf seems more like he's just having a bad day than like he's a bad person, it's not unlikely he'd keep quiet if she asked him.

While helping him up, Luna "accidentally" leans close and whispers "We both know I'm not human, but the actual humans don't need to know, you agree? And I'd suggest you try to tolerate the normals a bit more, as we both know what happened to the wolves that once tried to hunt them. You know," she says, beginning to speak up, "I'm really not quite sure what that was, but it looked like a robot of some kind. If you mean the electricity part specifically, I'm pretty sure it was a taser. Or something similar, at any rate."
