Ponies not only make ME want to be a better person than I was before they entered my life, they make me want to HELP OTHERS be better people too.
And that is a GOOD thing by any definition.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
Spoiler: MLP the MovieYou know, looking at some of these character designs, I feel like it's harkening back to the old G1 specials, with the bipedal critters there. Not necessarily a bad thing. Just feels like a touch of old school to me. Could be a good thing.
Less SciTwi and more Sunset in my opinion would of helped.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
I guess internal demons sort of don't count, do they?
Hurrah. After a fairly good long go at it... I'm up to "H."
*skulldesk*
Why do I do these things?
Actually, I know why. My copy of Relics and Rituals is disentigrating and many of those spells badly need a balance pass after 17 years.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
In movie logic the internal demons are the reason why you can't stop the external problem, and resolving them allows you to resolve the actual threat. It's all a big 'mastery of the self is mastery of the world' metaphor. See also: Rainbow Rocks, where the team's exclusion of Sunset Shimmer was the inner problem that allowed the outer problem of the Sirens to run rampant. We could see the physical effects of the flawed friendship.
Everfree made a bunch of screenwriting 101 mistakes. Like, 'do not introduce a villain in act three'. And, 'do not have flashbacks with big swirly filters lasting more than 5 minutes'. I partially think that a party of 7 is just too damn much for a movie to deal with because all anyone other than Sunset and Twilight did was stand around and make jokes, oftentimes the same jokes throughout the entire movie.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
My problem is this:
* Alicorn consumed by jealousy + powerful dream magic = Nightmare Moon
* Grade A bitch + destabilized Element of Magic = Sunset Satan
* Inquisitive student under pressure + random magic = Midnight Sparkle
* Camp owner facing bankruptcy + random magic = Gaia Everfree
See a pattern here? Some predictions:
* Lyra has a minor quarrel with Bon Bon + random magic = The Queen of Spades
* Derpy gets a thorn in her finger + random magic = Our Lady of Pain
* Octavia catches a cold + random magic = Pestilence rides!
I am just saying, it is becoming ridiculously easy to turn into a demon.
If that's what villainous origins are going to be from now on, I prefer not knowing why the Sirens are so awesomely wicked.Last edited by Millstone85; 2017-02-12 at 09:01 AM.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
I wasn't entirely disagreeing with you.
It sort of felt like it was really more of a set-up for the next movie, even, a sort of, well, not filler, exactly, but one of those episodes which is important for setting up plot but sandwiches between the actual plot episodes.
Actually, those last two - and possibly what happened to Sunset (becoming a demon, getting redeemed hard, turning into a pseudo-alicorn) - suggests, now that you mention it, that EqG!humans might be extremely susceptible to magic.
The girls developing magic powers too, come to that.
To the point that unwitting or unprepared exposure is, well, catastropic.
So, in all seriousness, your mickey-suggestions might have some truth to them, only not in a funny way, in a "oh crap, they got expososed to magic and it immediately grabbed their most surface issues and went absolutely berserk with them." (Hey, now that I say that, it reminds me a bit of how the jewel seeds in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha did Bad Stuff when random people picked one up.)
Makes a bit of sense, actually. Ponies appear to be specifcally designed to channel magic with a personal bend (however cutie marks do, in fact work), but humans don't... so the pony-magic looks for the nearest alternative and goes berserk.
That... that premise actually could make for some very interesting stories.Last edited by Aotrs Commander; 2017-02-12 at 10:20 AM.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
I don't think the problem is with humans.
Sunset never did explain "what happens when you bring an Element of Harmony into an alternate world" but my guess is that it broke the crown somehow and allowed the unworthy to wield its power. That's why Sunset didn't just put in on when she was in the Crystal Empire. And she has since been trying to understand how magic works in the human world, not how it works for humans.
Then again, maybe I am giving the first movie more depth than it actually had, or maybe that's the reason for Sunset failing to understand human magic.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
...As a Digimon Fan, this makes me wince.
Seriously, they mixed up the Japanese Levels(Baby 1, Baby 2, Child, Adult/Armor, Perfect/Golden Armor, Ultimate, Super Ultimate) with the English Levels(Fresh, In-Training, Rookie, Champion/Armor, Ultimate/Golden Armor, Mega, Ultra) and smooshed the first two levels together... And Sunset Satan Works better as Dark Evolution than it does as Armor Evolution.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
Nevermind then. I never played the game or watched the cartoon. This is just the first picture I found that showed all the Sunsets.
Though now I realise it is missing her fancy magical outfit from the end of Legend of Everfree. The website calls that one "super ponied up". Running out of ideas there.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
The above might very well be the plot for the next movie.
I just finished re-watching Legends of Everfree. At the very end, glowy magic lights started to flow out of the Canterlot High statue.
Therefore, it is possible that the next movie might give magic powers to all of CHS.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
Phew, can take a quick breather here before I hit the hay (it was naughty). Sleeping in my own house is a strange feeling. Like... years of work and now I have to learn how to stop working at it and just own it.
Amusing thing about changing the locks was that I put the old locks to use inside the house, and then I changed other door knobs with one another and now the doors all close better. it's like I optimized the doors.
Daughter's door op, please nerf.
On the subject of the latest Equestria movie, I do agree that the antagonist was intro'd way too late.

Re: My Little Pony XCVI: Long Live the King
I too, have noticed I'm not terribly familiar with a lot of these VAs. They don't seem bad though. Just relative unknowns to my usual circle. But I guess not going for top tier does save a lot of money for production's viewpoint.
It's hilarious that my connection on EQD is wonky this morning. The only image that loaded was Trixie. XD
Is it just me, or is the hardest part of moving NOT the actual physical moving of furniture/stuff part?
