He did make a joke about 4e (or rather, about people talking about 4e) when Hank told Haley "do you really want things to be video-gamey?" or something like that, I think

Re: OOTS #1069 - The Discussion Thread
Well, there is a formula. D20, -20 Staying on Topic penalty, +/- Individual Playgrounders WIS modifier, +100 for Giant posting new strip, -1 for every response after his. We do get other circumstance modifiers--a Ridiculously Awesome Splash Panel is good for at least a +30. If Rich could hit a Ludicrously Awesome exemplar, well, the Forums might have a meltdown.

Re: OOTS #1069 - The Discussion Thread
I just want to note, this is the perfect time for Roy to show he is the better warrior than Thog again. Thog was able to defeat a stone giant with PC class levels using what seems to be a non-magical and no armor (782). Now Roy is fighting against a frost giant with PC class levels (presumably) with a non-magical weapon (presumably). He is hurt and using the wrong weapon but he has magical armor and items so the scenario seems comparable.

Attention LotR fans
Spoiler: LotRThe scouring of the Shire never happened. That's right. After reading books I, II, and III, I stopped reading when the One Ring was thrown into Mount Doom. The story ends there. Nothing worthwhile happened afterwards. Middle-Earth was saved.

Re: OOTS #1069 - The Discussion Thread
Not to get Roy's goat, but I herd he spent a semester learning about them? Then we'd just need Elan to surprise him by knowing more about something again and Belkar to comfort him about losing the Greenhilt sword, to really cement the call-back.
Wait? So Roy is married to an old Goat? When do we get to meet his Goat wife?Last edited by Shoelessgdowar; 2017-04-05 at 12:21 PM.

One-on-one fights take too long for most people's attention span these days. So we just have a round of rock-paper-scissors and call it a day.

Re: OOTS #1069 - The Discussion Thread
We-ell, the problem with duelling is professional duellists.
How to commit legal murder in a society that allows duelling:
1) Provoke a duel with the victim.
2) Hire an assassin as your stand-in in the duel. A dandy versus a professional killer? It's little short of murder.
Another trick mentioned in Scandinavia was that duellists would stake claim to other people's stuff, and offer to fight duels to settle the ownership.
These and other reasons are why we settle things through laws and juries these days, rather than hacking each other to bits.
I personally would like to see more trials by ordeal

Re: OOTS #1069 - The Discussion Thread
Calling this before anyone else does: Elan attacks the female giant, but gets severely wounded. Before she manages to coup de grace him, either a raging Belkar drops in and attacks her(remember, Belkar liked Elan even before Greysky), and/or Roy manages to unlock the returning power of his sword and manages to get in a powerful strike, either killing her or getting her attention.

Re: OOTS #1069 - The Discussion Thread
Noted. Though I reiterate my prediction that this encounter will resolve itself without the giantess dying, most likely by diplomacy (and not trickery). She will then quite possibly show the Mechane a way out to where they want to go that allows them to bypass the remaining giants.

Re: OOTS #1069 - The Discussion Thread
I do hope that the situation ends with combat (because as I've said many a time before, I like it when people hit other people with big swords) but I'm willing to accept a peaceful option as well and that does seem pretty likely. I'll be content with any of the options currently on the table, really.
Currently daydreaming about: big giant swords.
