Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
The dazing ray charms you until their next turn. While charmed, in addition to the basic charmed condition effects, your speed is halved and you have disadvantage on attack rolls.
You are not frightened any more. As with the dazing ray, the fear ray only lasts until the Gazer's next turn.
By the way, Gazers have a -4 int save mod.
Zuzu's mental attack damages another gazer.
Back to the top of the round.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
Daar sees the last two baned creatures fall and half smiles to herself. Keeping in mind the warning given by Zuzu, Daar changes her stance and says a silent prayer to Bahamut for his protection, she raises her mace and prepares herself for an attack.
How should we go about attacking the spectator?Last edited by Jrpergande78; 2017-06-15 at 10:41 AM.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
Frostbite hits a gazer.
Arkhen's arrow misses the spectator.
Ox damages another.
Daar's Sacred Flame kills the one hit by frostbite.
The 1 remaining Gazer fires a frost ray at Daar and a fear ray at Zanan while floating out of reach of Zanan's attacks.
Daar's dex save: (1d20+2)[11] fail: (3d6)[7] cold damage, divided by 2 from resistance. Fail
Zanan's wis save: (1d20-3)[16] fail: frightened (can't move towards the gazer) Success
The Spectator fires its wounding ray at Arkhen and its paralyzing ray at Daar.
Arkhen's con save: [roll1d20[/roll] fail: (3d10)[14] Success
Daar's con save: (1d20+2)[18] Success
Zuzu's turn now. Now that Arkhen is part of the initiative I'll put it all down here.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
Hiding behind the cowardly naked wolf-lady who appears to be afraid of floating eye things, Zuzu attempts to finish off the last gazer with a mind blast, before he ducks out of sight. In response to Daar's query, the boy mentally transmits via telepathy:
It can reflect magical attacks that are aimed at it, but not attacks that affect the environment around it!
SpoilerDC15 INT save (1d20-4)[11] or take (1d10+2)[7] psychic damage. So cool that anything less than a 19 will hit.
I cannot think of an IC way to communicate that spells with to-hit rolls (e.g. Fire Bolt) can be reflected, while spells that require saving throws (e.g. Frostbite, Sacred Flame) can not.Last edited by Zergrinch; 2017-06-15 at 09:17 PM.

Zanan's attack obliterates two of the Spectator's four eyestalks and knocks out many teeth.
Only the spectator is left and it is highly damaged in one attack.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
Okay, I'm just going to bot Arkhen here, because Daar and Ox are confirmed to kill it next round.
Attack: (1d20+2)[4]
Hit: (1d10+13)[15]
(1d6)[4]
If Arkhen rolls a 14 or higher then it is an automatic kill as it has 13 hit points left.
If Arkhen misses, Daar and Ox's attacks finish it off.
The spectator falls to the ground, fades to a dark green color, and disappears. The Gazers fade to a greyish color; it seems they had been affected by an advanced Color Spray-type spell.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
A bit stricken at his stupidity in triggering the latest traps, Zuzu goes around trying to make amends by psychically channeling some of his vitality into the others.
SpoilerBy my reckoning, here is the damage we all took:
Zuzu: 12
Zanan: 15
Ox: 9
Altiui: 9
Psionic Restoration Rolls
Zuzu: (d8)[7] + 1
Ox: (d8)[8]; Zuzu + 1
Altiui: (d8)[7]; Zuzu + 1
Zanan: (d8)[7]; Zuzu + 1
Zanan: (d8)[8]; Zuzu + 1
Well damn, that was a great set of Rolls!
Zuzu +12, back to full
Zanan +15, back to full
Ox +8, 1hp below full
Altiui +7, 2hp below full
I went back to tally up damage to Daar in the skeletons encounter. Her AC is 15, so attacks that hit her are: 5 + 4 = 9. Zuzu spent 2 psi healing her, back to full (3+6).
Zuzu has 6 psi remaining and will not be able to continue for longer.
It occurred to me that some of us may have fighter levels. If so, consider using Second Wind to conserve psi points. We will need a short rest after this encounter anyway :)Last edited by Zergrinch; 2017-06-16 at 07:26 PM.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
Well, that was fun. Come on, let's find some treasure. In the story books, there's always a reason for a trap - it's guarding something important!

Zuzu shakes his head. No, that was not fun. Not fun at all. The moment he thinks Fighting for his life is fun is the moment he loses all his marbles.
With all the beholders destroyed, the boy cautiously reenters the room, and gives each platform and the room a thorough investigation.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
Even with that investigation job, you find no secret doors or compartments. While there are loose bricks, which I assume Zuzu would get Zanan to move, there is nothing behind them except a few insects and worms. And even then, those insects aren't partcularly rare and wouldn't call for a great price to pet-or-familiar-dealers.
It seems this room was just a trap to feed on potential raiders' greed, as was the library; the skeletons fell down when Zuzu took the books off the shelves.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
Feeling utterly foolish for triggering so many traps, the boy returns to the library and really studies the indentation on the wall. Then it clicks, there were beholder symbols that reminded him of the arrangement in the other room.
Could it be as simple as that? After instructing everyone to be alert for anything, Zuzu requests the taller Ox and Zanan to place the tiles on the wall using the same pattern as on the floor - a silver spectator in the middle, surrounded by small gold gazers. After which, one should pull the lever while the other stands guard.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
The door rises up. Behind you see a sort of broom closet; Robes hang on a rack, a broom in the corner, and a small door, just 3 feet high, at the back wall of this 10' square room.
Spoiler: ZuzuOn the floor lies a note, in the center of a crimson red rippling pool of an unknown substance. It is not wet or stained from it, yet it looks submerged in it on the otherwise flat room. It reads:
Pit Trap just ahead. Don't trigger. Trust me? ~Bres The Cowardly King

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
Spoiler: ZuzuIn mythology, Bres was a king who led his army of giants in a war, but lost in a single battle to humans. He begged for his life on his hands and knees from the god who helped the humans, and it was spared. Due to Zuzu's short time on this earth, and his education, he knows this much, but not any more.

Re: 5e Adventure By Me. Yeah. II
I don't want to touch anything and trigger any more traps, and there's a note from someone called Bres the Cowardly King saying there's a pit trap just ahead that we should not trigger, trust him.
I wonder if we can just send the familiar through, to scout? Since it can fly, it will not trigger any pit traps. Now Playing
