"GAH!!", Celesta rips the limp creature off her throat at stomps her foot on it's head, just to make sure it's dead. She coughs to stabilize her breathing. "Ugh, awful smell. Were these Ulf's lackeys too?"

Feagon nods in agreement Celesta. "Like the midden of an ogre. I can't wait to get out of here and bathe." he says with disgust as he walks over to Celesta and touches her lightly on the shoulder, causing her wounds to heal quickly. "Need to be on the lookout for more of those critters. I'm shooting first, next time."

"Ulf's lackeys or somehow living in the middle of a war zone." Suga looks to the small iron door. "Gotta be trapped, guarded, probably both."

"Not something I've seen before," Grack says. "To my knowledge, the traps don't start until we're in the foundry, but that could easily have changed."

"Are we to presume the the foundry lies beyond this door?"

[Kish]

"Yes. The dwarves control that section entirely."

"Alright, I take it we keep moving? Same marching set as last time?"

"Okay, everybody button up."

The hobgoblin kneels before the door to examine the lock and latching mechanism.

The door is very strong-looking, about 5 feet tall and 4 feet wide. Heavy rivets stud its surface, and a tarnished silver rune--an ancient smith-mark--gleams on the door's rusted face. It has a lock that looks like it would be hard to pick, but it doesn't seem to be locked at the moment; Tarak finds no traps.

Tarak

The hobgoblin finishes his examination of the doorway then turns to the others, "Looks clear to me," he opens the door and swings it open, "who's first?"

[Kish]

A 20-foot corridor leads to a staircase descending further into the earth.

Tarak

Seeing no one else willing to take the lead, Tarak shrugs and moves cautiously down the corridor and to the stairs carefully examining the floor as he goes.

Celesta follows right behind Tarak.

Feagon just nods at Tarak as he shrugs. "I got you covered from back here."

[Kish]

The stairs open up into an octagonal chamber about 30 feet across. The floor is inlaid with cracked, dusty blue tiles, and the walls are dressed with polished marble. Large doors of ironbound oak exit to northwest and northeast.

Three cast bronze statues almost 10 feet in height stand on the west, north, and east walls. Each represents a dwarven warrior armed for battle; the east and west carry axe and shield, and the center statue is armed with two axes. The ceiling rises in a dome almost 30 feet above the floor.

Somewhere in the distance, you can hear the faint ringing of hammer on anvil.

Grack immediately goes over to the east wall, squeezing past the statue there. He presses on the wall and it swings back. "This is the only real door from this place. If you try to open either of those," he gestures to the two apparent doors, "the statues swing their axes at you. But this is as far in as I've ever been. The--Ulf's forces hold everything beyond this point."

The hobgoblin looks at the orc for a moment and shakes his head, "Well, nothing for it then..."

He swings the door open and steps through.

[Cavir]

"Sneaky dwarves." Suga squeezes past the statue and follows through the door.

Feagon also gives a shake of his head. "If it were me, I'd have been cut in two." as gives a small shudder before falling silently behind the others.

Past the secret door, a staircase descends to the east.

As Tarak steps on the twelfth step, a voice that seems to come from the walls calls out words in a language most of you don't understand.

"Alert! Alert! Intruders approach!"

[CWater]

Celesta walks right behind Tarak. When the voice speaks, she instinctively tenses and raises her spear. "What's it saying?!"

Tarak

Freezing in place, Tarak peers down the stairway looking for any movement. Over his shoulder he says, "It's dwarven and it's alerting them to our presence."

[Kish]

The stairs end in a door; there is no sign of anyone on the stairs but you.

[Cavir]

"Damn. We need to move fast then, before they organize."

[razorback]

"Though it stinks of a trap, we do need to get in before the dwarves fortify their position; if they are good at anything, it's digging themselves in. 'Ware the door for traps."

Tarak

Moving deliberately, Tarak comes to the door and then examines the mechanism and frame, before standing aside to let Suga lead the way.

The door is of stone and carved with a glowering dwarf face. It does not appear to be locked or trapped.

Suga steps past Tarak and opens the door, ready to make a quick assessment of what is beyond.

You find a mighty dwarven hall, fully 100 feet in length and 50 feet wide, lined with ten great pillars carved into fantastic images--giants and dragons straining to support the massive vaulted ceiling, thirty feet above. Guttering orange torches set in sconces 10 feet above the floor illuminate the room, and a mighty throne sits on a dais at the opposite end. The walls were once covered with tile frescoes, but these are long gone, smashed into tiny fragments and replaced with Orcish graffiti. You can see five doors, not counting the one you're standing in. Hammers ring on iron somewhere beyond the doors to the south.

Suddenly a harsh voice calls from the shadows of the pillars, "Leave if you don't want to die fighting for filthy orcs! This is the last chance you'll get!"

Even with darkvision, you can't make out the speaker. The voice comes from the area of the second pillar along the south wall.
