I just watched Pony Anthology VI. I nearly fell asleep watching it, which is to say, it was pretty uninspired.

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Got to hand it to Count Erdvlas of Beresty. He's got some stones, declaring war on the ENTIRE Roman Empire.
Completely idiotic of course, I had no less than three strong vassals in the immediate area.
Spoiler
That... was not a long war. He's just lucky this is CK2, not EUIV or it would have been literally suicidal.
Spoiler: S7e14*skulldesk*
Ponies, you are nearly as stupid as humans. (And also, in the case of the ones at Sweet Apples Acres, [Richards].)
Seriously, the girls save Equestria more time than you cna shake a stick at, one of the becoes a Princess, and it is only after the publish a BOOK you start to catch on.
Also, Lyra and Bonbon, you should know better.
That goes for you too, Twilight, apparently, as among the lessons you've learned, apparnetly thinking ideas all the way through and remember how dense the population is isn't one of them...!
(Also, show... You told us that the first five season happened in less than a year. So the book can't be more than a year or two old. Heck, even if you want to say it WAS seven years, that's still not a long time ago. Make your damn minds up and also stop trying to make a handful of years into a decade or two.)
Toss-up between Rarity and Starlight (Still Evil) for the show-stealing.
(I am convinced that Starlight "talking" to those ponies involved a shovel and a shallow grave. Yes, even though we saw one of them later (I think). One.)
It was amusing, though, because I think the message of that show was aimed more towards the fandom, rather than the nominal target audience. (The point is the same and I thought the message still fair, mind...)
Not a bad episode. Lacking Spike, though.
I am headcanoning that Starlight went out to... Deal with the crowds outside. With another shovel. (And possibly Spike and a flamethrower.)
Back through Thread:
SpoilerApparently very much in the minority.
Well, ya boo sucks to all of you, I thought it was funny.
(Mind you, I'm, always deeply amused by satire, and i find Teen Titans Go! never funnier on the episodes everyone else is offended by. Now, is that 'cos I is English or what?)
Spoiler: s7e14Who have nevertheless on this very thread voiced some of the crtitisms the show was having a crack at about previous episodes of this season or last season... So I think they are entirely justified in having a crack at it.
Spoiler: s7e14Well, considering how they didn't actually resolve that, there's no reason to say she didn't...
Spoiler: s7e14Not really, it's just one more example of pony herd-thinking. (Ponies are not humans after all.)
Edit: Caught up on the EQG shorts as well.
Spoiler: ShortsLot of Celestia this season. 'Bout freakin' time.

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Spoiler: Fame and MisfortuneIt's not the critiques/nitpicking, it's how, where, and when you do it ... is something the episode should perhaps have made clear. Except the situation in the episode is very much different because the critique there is of actual, real ponies and not fictional characters (although the mob seems to think the six ponies standing right in front of them are in fact imaginary characters ... what's up with that, anyway? Do they think that Rarity in the book is a fictional character created by ... the real Rarity?)
There's a difference between critiquing a work of fiction, and critiquing actual people - such as the writers and artists themselves.
There's also a difference between nitpicking an episode here in Ponythread, where frankly we don't expect the show writers/artists to see it (and if they do, it's by active choice), and directly tweeting your angry nitpicks at the show writers/artists (making it not their choice).
And even if you do engage with them on social media by invitation (implicit or explicit), there's a difference between respectful/thoughtful criticism/nitpicking and rude or outright hateful and hurtful attacks. Generally, if they haven't asked for your opinion, you probably should stick to positive, non-critical messages of thanks and appreciation.
I don't think it's fair to lump all these together. I enjoyed the episode, but I think it's understandable if some of us here feel a bit unfairly characterized. It's enough of a mirror that I can certainly see myself in there, and at the same time it's not a Deadly I recognize, because I try not to be a jerk about it when I nitpick an episode.

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Spoiler: s7e14Agreed. This feels a bit more mean-spirited in its commentary on the fandom, as opposed to Stranger than Fan-Fiction, which went out of its way to show Quibble had valid opinions (even if he came across as somewhat of a jerk in expressing them at times).
Though the song and Fluttershy's scene were enough to make it an enjoyable episode if not a good one.
Spoiler: applejack short
This was weird, I almost feel that the song could be catchy, but Applejack is the wrong voice to sing it. Maybe it would've been better with Sunset?

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Spoiler: S7E14maaan. this episode just makes me realize any real life freindships i had kinda fell apart. when i moved schools, and then later when we all went to universities or the like, the few freinds i had in town kinda just drifted away from me. think they still hang out with eachother, but i don't really hear from 'em anymore. still got a lot of online freinds though, so i guess that counts for something.
think the big reason is that they wanted to hang out like 24/7, i remember getting phone calls from one of them every day asking if i wanted to go over to his place. i'm a much more introverted person, i need time alone and to myself. eventually he stopped calling, and we stopped seeing eachother... yeah...Avy by Thormag

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Communist revolutions in Victoria 2 are not fun. There was a bajillion of them the firts time (and I'm passing the damn social reforms as fast as it will let me) and once you know all you have to do is keep the capital clear, it just becomes a massive tedious exercise of "click to send army here." Tedious. And then five or so years later, it tried to do it again. So I was like "nope, game, if'n you're going to be lie that about it, we can just use the escape and reload key. Especially as French Communism is pacafist, so you can totally get knotted, mi laddo."
Celestia is definitely a better form of government...

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
That's odd. Communism in Victoria is supposed to be pro-military, while socialists are pacifist.
Shame, really. I've found the best (read: most interesting to deal with) way of dealing with the Liberal and Socialist Revolutions was to let them take over, hope they force through good reforms, and manage the fallout if they don't. More interesting than hunting rebels anyway.

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
It depends on the nation's defined political party set-up. France, unfortunately, only has one communist party, which is pacifist. [Insert French joke here.] And I was not looking forward to having to try and fight wars (or shelve my goals) under the penalty while I waited 13% of the game until facism got spawned.
It was bad enough having to boot Spain out of my sphere because they wouldn't deal with their own damn rebels. (So I fought a war with 'em and took another state and one of the rebelling colonies (since their opinion was too low to let me have military access, so I figured I might as well use the excuse to DoW on them..!) And, frack me if five minutes later, they had even more rebels, so I wasn't gonna stick 'em back in my sphere again...

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Ooooh, after fourteen years, so close to being able to release AccAtt now!
Final proofing check is done, the PDF is assembled, the stuff is nominally ready for me to click "publish" on Wargames Vault... But there's still a few more bits to do (like the release posts and such), so as i've gone three and a half hours beyond my usual "stop working on the Shipyard stuff" time-limit, I will have to put it off. (Until Friday, likely, since I won't have time tomorrow.)

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
*skulldesk*
Not yet... Having had all sorts of problems getting the hard-copy finished (*sigh*) - and I'll still have to re-print bits because the printer did a poor job of them - I realised that the arc markers (which are sort of intended to be double-sided) were on the wrong pages. In fixing THAT I noticed that the reverse side has inexplicably got the port and starboard reversed. "Eh?" says I, and checks my current markers. (Which are the first versions, and labelled L/R not P/S.) Nope, they right so frack know how that bog-up got in. Anyway, the problem was THEN that Word wouldn't let me insert a TurboCAD drawing as an object (like I had apparently done before with the arc markers), because it wanted to use V16. Except that the drawing were in V17 format - and the one I'd just fixed was in V21 format. After a lot of faff, I ended up uninstalling V16 completely. Now it would let me edit but only in V17. But never mind that works. Now I just have to see if they can be remotely aligned...
Nope. Bollocks to it, then. The printer ink to try and sort that mess isn't worth it. We'll just stop trying to be clever, since we are going to be releasing a free PDF set of marker guff in Better Than I Could Get Word To Have quality anyway, so we'll just have the proper double-sided one as a PDF in that.
Given as even THAT is proving to be difficult. How the hell is this so messed up?! I printed the damn things fine yonks ago!
And that STILL leaves the record-sheet fixing I discovered tonight I need to do for the weekend convention to do (for the umpteenth time, I managed to do the Wodef damage tracks with the position of Armour and Shield reversed...)

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Spoiler: New Episode: Triple Threat*claps hooves together*
I demand ships! Ships of Thorax and Ember!!
Overall an okay episode. Spike is the new crazy Twilight and Starlight is the new smart Spike. The chemistry works. I mean, Starlight is actually quite nice when she's not doing the uber magic thing and instead doing the social Charisma thing. Hey, how about that. And yeah, Spike has hung out with Twi too long. I guess this is Spike's Lesson Zero. Sorta.
Good to see confirmation the changelings still shapechange. I wonder how their new diet works?

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
A new episode! Launch the ships! Launch the whole fleet!
Spoiler: Season 7 episode 15
That was a great episode.
Now I want a spin-off series with Ember (Thorax can be there too, he was OK).
Seriously, Ember stole the whole episode and rescued it from the old "double date" cliche.
Every scene with her was a delight. She should probably hang with Rainbow Dash a bit, too.
Will Bon-Bon get to speak and make up another silly accent?
Will Muffins ever get her muffin back?
Can Twilight find a spell to make crystals grow?
What would happen to Ember if she eats Twilight's memory-crystals?
Will Thorax ever find a comfortable chair?
So many questions.
Now I'm thinking with ponies!

Spoiler: tripple threat
Ya know, with the changelings, the ponies, the dragons, and the yaks all being allies now (though i guess the yaks need to make allies with the dragons and changelings still...) i kinda reaaaallly want to see the four of 'em go to war with some other big army or group of armies. Like... idk... the griffons, or giraffes, or minotaurs or something.
kinda doubt we'll see a full scale war in a show for children about freindship, but man would it be cool to see dragon, changeling, yak, and pony fighting side by side.Avy by Thormag

Whelp. No luck (or word) from the chaps at Wargame Vault before they presumably went home for the weekend, so we'll be going with "this is probably the web address, by sometime next week...!"
Convention tomorrow (oh ho, and you know what THAT means...) and given the last week has been pretty frenetic, so I think New Pony will have to wait until after that. (Unless I change my mind later or something...)

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Definitely pony tomorrow - just finished Deponia the complete journey.
35 hours. Not damn bad at all for a point-and-click adventure. I found it consistently funny. Rufus is the worse protagonist of any adventure game I've played. And I don't mean he's, like bad, I mean he makes ME look like a good person by comparion, and it is glorious.
The ending was... Well, I won't spoil it, but rather well done and meaningful.

Re: My Little Pony XCVII: Cheerilee's Lonely Hearts Club
Spoiler: Triple ThreatFirst things first, let me say that I called the whole Spike-as-Ambassador plot.
Other than that, we got a "this could have been avoided" story full of wacky hijinks, so it was a bonus all things considered. I liked Ember poking fun at the whole "Glimmer is the new Twilight" argument, and the map being able to call non-ponies is very interesting.Avatar by Coronalwave
