Considering the state Charlie was in before the tower got involved, this seems like a pretty significant net advantage.

Yes, he's "lost" three fifths of his closest friends, and might not have been able to pull himself together after that. I'm just hoping we get insights into what really drives Charlie, and why he keeps poking the beehive's nest that is GK.

In all honesty, however, I do hope the Shirley Temple will help get the story back on track. This plot has been meandering like a silly and over-complicated analogy, and a large part of it has been because Charlie has been too high to be the threat the heroes (or at least the writer) need to stay focused. If giving Charlie a nanny is what's needed to get this show on the road, I'm all for it.

Well, at least we can expect a powered dish, at least standard-cable worth of channels, and some money being spent on improvements.

So on deeper consideration, it seems like Fate or something always planned for this, since while Marie believes they need to hurry, it still looks like there's nothing Marie can do. The ICfYS portal is currently blocked and guarded, Wanda doesn't have the pliers yet, GK is still trying to rescue their prisoners, and there's a counter-prediction to stop Wanda from getting through the ICfYS portal from the park side. There's really a lot that still needs to change before Marie can bring her Prediction to pass. It just seems like she doesn't know that. Marie is trying to meddle, trying to take the very easy way, so Fate may really be against her.

Natural Thinkamancy would compel him to obey orders unless he thinks its for the good of the side or his loyalty is low. Vanna and Roger's manipulations have dealt with that.

There's also the fact that he would risk Caesar noticing him out of his cell via ruler sense, but Roger is using Foolamancy to deal with that.

I guess that means the jail cells really don't have a conventional lock to them. They only operate on that... signamancy? They take orders from their side to remain closed for captured units, but can open for any unit on the same side is what I'm trying to say.

Unless an enemy on the outside breaks the prisoner out, like what Marie did in ICFYS.

Spookism being what it is, a prison cell probably doesn't mean much as long as the caster has mana. Animating the door to unlock and open seems like a pretty basic trick.

More like fighting a passive enemy combatant. (which only works if you're not from the same/allied side.)

Doors can be locked/unlocked by orders from the owning side.

Which would be why captured units don't have juice to cast. Else you couldn't hold a caster prisoner for more than like, 10 seconds. :3

Nope. Caesar is reliant on Loyalty, Ruler sense, and other people noticing Bill out of his cell to keep Bill in line.

Roger, you lying son of a ... peep? Marbit?

Convince Parson that his spell of return home can be manipulated so that it turns into a "carny portal" spell, and boom, he goes home.

Of course, that means he will get the shoes, possibly his dice (if it works for Vriska, it can work for him :-), possibly an assistant. He will be back, you know.

Prediction (to the betting thread): This book ends with Parson back in stupid world, and next book is his return to ERf.

Mr. Temptation is back. "All you wanted in the first place, and you do the ethical thing while getting it."
    He argues very well:
-"I maybe did that, but it was okay" -> Charley admits he made a mistake, and earns back a bit trust by admitting what Buck knew anyway, and gives it a spin
-"The other guys probably did all the bad things, they had way more reasons" ->He continues the spin against Parson
-"I'm the good guy, always been friends" -> He reminds of good past, furthers the trust
-"Also, I hire, and will show you some great stuff" -> He offers Buck something he wants, a motive for profit
-"You are a good guy, a patriot" -> And he makes it sound like Buck would be doing the right thing and help others, so Buck himself can defend it before the other casters and more importantly his own morals

I'm guessing this will lead to his old gaming buddies entering Erf. Maybe the spell doesn't go as Roger intends due to some interference or a last-minute realization on Parson's part of what's happening, or just Fate screws with something causing interference.

Or maybe Parson realizes the con before it occurs, but he uses what he learned about jerryrigging the scroll (assuming any of that was true) to allow him, with allied help, to summon more Earth-ian warlords to assist. But that's probably be too pro-Gobwin Knob's side to actually happen in the narrative.
