Default The Baal Epic: Part One

    The Baal Epic
    Part One: Judge Nahar

As El grew weary, as Father Shunem aged, he could no longer be king, could no longer hold the throne. The hour was at hand, the time had come. The Bull, El, would choose a successor – the King of the Gods would take an heir.
His choices narrowed down to four, there were four sons he considered.
Attar the Terror, the First Star, Lord over Shahar and Shalim, Master of Dusk and Dawn.
Baal-Haddu, Rider of Clouds, Him Whom the Multitudes Adore, the Powerful One.
Yam-Nahar, the Serpent Lotan, Judge River, Lord Sea, he who calls the Abyss his Realm.
Mot-Ghazir, Death. He without worship, El’s Beloved, Lord of Hemry and Sheol.
Asherah-Elith spoke on behalf of Yam, the Mother of the Host pressed Judge Nahar.
Upon seeing her, El was pleased; Father Shunem delighted in Elith.
“Why has Lady Asherah of the Sea come?” He asked.
“Why came the Mother of the Host?
    Are you hungry?
    Then have a morsel!
    Or are you thirsty?
    Then have a drink!
    Eat!
    Drink!

    Eat bread from the tables!
From a shining goblet, drink this wine!
From a cup of gold, the blood of vines!”
“Make Yam your heir,” the Lady begged.
“May Judge Nahar be your Darling.”
El was moved by Elith, Shunem persuaded by Asherah.
“Kothar wa-Kasis!” El-Shunem yelled, calling the Craftsman of the gods.
“Quickly build the house of Yam, Erect the palace of Judge Nahar. In the Midst of the Great Sea, Quickly his house shall you build. Quickly erect the palace of my heir.”
Quote the Warrior Anat, raising her voice to El Elyon
“My father Bull El! Baal is the Rider of the Clouds, Slayer of Evil! Is Yam to be honored above Haddu? Is Judge Nahar more than Baal?”
And taking up her torch, the Warrior found Yam’s yet-built house.
Fire she placed upon the palace – she burned the house of Judge Nahar.
Into Yam’s throne room came the envoy, arrived a messenger of Judge Nahar.
“You are King over the Host. You are our Judge, and none is above You.”
Glee filled the face of Judge Nahar, a smile lit El’s new Heir.
“Baal’s sister has rebelled, Anat the Warrior fights against You. Fire she placed upon Your palace, she burned the house of Judge Nahar.”
Then to his messengers Yam called out:
"Depart, Lads! Do not sit! Leave, and hurry. Be on your way to the Assembled Body in the Midst of the Mountain of Night, on the peak of Mount Lel.
Do not bow to El. Do not prostrate yourselves before the gods. Proudly standing give your speech, and say unto Bull my father El – Declare to the Assembled Body:
“The message of Yam, Your Lord, of Your master Judge Nahar:
Give up, O Gods, Him whom You harbor, Him whom the multitudes adore!
Give me Baal to lord over, the god Haddu I will possess!”
The lads depart. They do not sit. Then They set off to the Mountain of Night, toward the Convocation of the Assembly. The Gods had not even sat down, the Deities to dine, when arrived the messengers of Yam, the Envoys of Judge Nahar.
As soon as the Gods saw them, saw the messengers of Yam, the envoys of Judge Nahar, the Hosts lowered their heads upon their knees. Baal rebuked them, shouting out:
"Why, O Gods, have you lowered your heads to your knees? I see the gods are cowed with terror by the messengers of Yam, the envoys of Judge Nahar! Gods, lift up your heads and I shall answer the messengers of Yam, the envoys of Judge Nahar!"
Their fright passed, their courage restored, the gods lift their heads. And so begin the messengers of Yam, the envoys of Judge Nahar.
At the feet of El they do not fall, they do not prostrate themselves before the gods.
    They say to Bull El:
"The message of Yam, Your lord, of Your master, Judge Nahar: 'Give up, O Gods, Him whom Ye harbor, Him whom the multitudes adore! Give me Baal to lord over, the god Haddu I will possess!’”
    And Bull El replies:
"Baal is your slave, Yam! He will be your tribute from the Gods. From the Deities, Your gift!"
But Prince Baal was infuriated. A knife he takes in the hand, a dagger in the other. To smite the lads he flourishes it. Attar seizes his right hand, Anat seizes his left and cries:
"How can you smite the messengers of Yam, the envoys of Judge Nahar? They have merely brought the words of Yam-Nahar, word of their Lord and Master."
Puissant Baal spares the lives of the messengers; He sends them back to their master. He instructs them to relay his message:
“I will not bow to Prince Yam. I will not be the slave of Judge Nahar. I shall slay the Tyrant Lord of the Heavenly Host!"

    Spoiler: Rules
    Show

There is a Day phase and a Night phase. Both phases shall be ~72 hours long.

Lynch votes are done in red during the Day phase. The person with the most votes gets lynched. Ties result in no lynch.

Being lynched means that a player is out of the game unless they have some special protection. If one's win condition is not met at the time of their lynching, they cannot win the game.

Helgraf's scry interference rules are in play, meaning that any attempt by multiple scryers (Seer, Fool, Devil) to scry the same target on the same night will result in ‘interference’, i.e. no result.

Do not send out PMs to other players without also sending one to me. Additionally, any Quicktopics created must be shared with the narrator.

Auto-lynches occur after 2 day and night phases in a row of no activity.

Characters will have their own individual victory conditions, but there do exist two teams of “wolves” which are primarily gunning for each other. The game ends when any one of those wolf teams are eliminated and victory shall be distributed to all who have met their win-conditions.

    Spoiler: Characters
    Show

    Wolves – Yam’s Inner Council
Yam’s Inner Council seeks to control the Heavenly Host by wiping out dissidents and wins when Baal’s Allies are defeated.
Yam-Nahar, Alpha. Tyrant Lord of the Gods, runs the pantheon from within this Inner Council. His will is the ultimate decision on the Council’s night kill.
Elith-Asherah, Devil. Mother of the Gods, is the wife of El-Shunem. She favors Yam above her other sons and was a key reason for Yam’s status as Heir of El. Each night she shall search for her son Baal to end this conflict.
El-Shunem, Vortexer. King and Father of the Gods, chose Yam to succeed him primarily due to his wife’s influence. He nevertheless stands by his decisions and would stand against anyone who would question them. Father of Years, he possesses the power to protect with one hand and bring ruin with another, making people who target one person strike another.

    Town – Heavenly Host
The Town is the prize for the victor, and as such neither team particularly wants to kill the Heavenly Host, but if a few gods are caught in the crossfire neither team shall lose sleep. A few of the more powerful gods, however, have their own agendas that shall interfere with the battle around them. Listed are power roles, but other gods of the pantheon shall be included based on the power of the others.
Sydyk, Baner. God of justice, Sydyk has been implored by Yam to respect the order of deities and accept Yam as Judge over all while Baal urges Sydyk to end the injustice that is Yam’s reign.
Attar the Terror, Vigilante. Attar was also in the running for becoming Judge over all the gods, and sees this rebellion as his chance to take the throne if both Baal and Yam happen to die.
Shahar, Lover. God of the Dawn and born from a mortal woman with his twin brother Shalim, Shahar has little power. Insecure about his own failings, he is violent and rash.
Shalim, Lover. God of the Dusk and born from a mortal woman with his twin brother Shahar, Shalim has little power. At peace with his place in the world, Shalim is level-headed and calm (the phrases “shalom” and “salam” have related etymologies to his name).
Marqod, Voider. God of dancing who can distract one target each night.
Shapash, Booster. God(dess?) of the sun who can improve a person's powers or keep away any distractions.
Yellow One of Mot, Seer. Working for Mot, his goals are a secret that shall follow the Yellow One into the grave.
Resheph, Watcher. God of pestilence, for now content to watch the gods tear each other apart. Each night, he can observe the target of his own target. .

    Wolves – Baal’s Allies
Baal’s Allies seek to dethrone Yam and instate Baal as Judge over all. They win when Yam’s Inner Council is destroyed.
Baal Haddu, Alpha. Baal believes himself to be the true heir to El-Shunem’s throne and is willing to remove Yam from the picture to take his rightful place.
Anat-Astarte, Beast. Anat stands firmly by her brother Baal (despite Yam also being her brother) as the rightful Judge over the Heavenly Host. A goddess of bloodlust and battle, she will not die without a fight.
Kothar wa-Kasis, Devil. Kothar wa-Kasis is the craftsman of the gods, but harbors a secret hatred for Yam. Each night, he shall search for Judge Nahar so that the clubs he fashioned, Yagrush and Ayumar, can be used to break Yam’s back and split his skull.

I didn't mention Canaanites. But they were a Semitic tribe, later called Phoenicians by the Romans. They are the people whose religion this game is based on.

I think that you are wrong. I think that they were never called Phoenixians.

I've no problem with anyone, Rams. I won't apologise on behalf of anyone, because I'm, well, not responsible for their actions- But I do think that it certainly wasn't cool, what Murska did. You have as much right to play as anyone, and while you were being rather presumptuous and accusing him of things that, well, you yourself were engaging in...
... I'd rather play with someone like that than with someone who suggests that someone else shouldn't be playing.

EDIT: A slight typo in the roles section-
"Elith-Asherah, Devil. Mother of the Gods, is the wife of El-Shunem. She favors Yam above her other sons and was a key reason for Yam’s status as Heir of El. Each night she shall search for her son Baal to end "

That's it. The sentence just cuts off there.
