The Druidess narrowed her eyes at the mage and let a hint of annoyance enter her voice. "You do realize I am Cassandra Vallas, do you not? Am I to be searched in my own home? I think I had better speak with my brother right away."

Whatever's going on, clearly they're all on edge. Best we get a move on.Hammerhead kept close to Cassandra as the security check finalized and they moved into the old dwarf fortress turned castle.

Mechitar, Cathedral of Epiphenomena

Visibly impressed with Varsq's manners, or at least his handsome face, the plump priestess beamed and began toying with her curly brown hair. "High Priestess Morgiana," she answered.

With his considerable knowledge of religion and deities, Varsq realized that a High Priestess would be sufficient to deal with, but she was certainly not the most exalted creature in the temple complex. Likely, somewhere within the bowels of the pyramid, there was a vampire, lich or most celebrated Daughter of Urgoatha. Judging by the misshapen appendage on Morgiana, she was on her way to transforming into one of these so called Daughters.

"Cuttail? That sounds like a Ratfolk clan name."

Castle Vallas

The woman who'd scanned the party for magic auras paid no need to Cassandra's protests, but nodded to communicate to the captain that she'd seen nothing objectionable.

"I'm sorry, my Lady. There was an attempt on the Duchess Meresin's life," the captain hissed in a low tone, "So we've been instructed to scrutinize visitors for illusions. We've also installed several alarm spells that trigger in the presence of invisible creatures. Your lord father has developed what I would call a healthy sense of paranoia."

He gestured up the trail, offering to escort the trio to the castle's porch. "Lord Lysander can answer any questions you have, I'm sure ..."

"I'm sorry, captain. I know you are merely doing your job." Cassandra patted the guard captain's shoulder to placate the poor man. "My companions and I have had a long road since I was last home, and we've seen much loss of life. Forgive me for being a little impatient and saddened that trouble has entered my own home. My father has had something of the sort for as long as I can remember. Do not worry yourself overmuch, but I must ask whether magic to be off limits on my family's grounds? I am a druidess, if you recall."

”You’re quite astute,” he said as a wry smile crept across his face “I once counted myself a member of that race. A denizen of the Deepmarket. But having come to follow my lord I have experienced many changes both empowering and bizarre. High Priestess Morgiana, I understand you’ve helped to build a resplendent cornucopia of disease and entropy and I wouldn’t wish to intrude upon your joyous lamentations or careful rituals with my frolicking and celebrations. As of such I ask of you where you would deem it fit for me and my kin to place our roots. We are all children of undeath afterall and being a good neighbor has always warmed my slow beating heart.”
