I let the shadow creature loose thinking if my new servant is telling the truth then I deny the monsters who have killed my clutchmates a resource. And if he's lying... well I'll find out I suppose.

As soon as you lift the jar the shadow...joins your shadow.

Part of your shadow seems darker, but you can't actually see the shadow thing any more.

[Ramsus]

"Greetings." I mentally say at the shadow thing. Or at least I hope it's to the shadow thing.

Ok then. Well, whatever. I try freeing the "complicated" crystal next.

After release it floats around you.
It vibrates and pulses and flies closer to you.
Strands of energy grow from it and touches your neck....
and now it is part of your skin like a slightly over-sized scale.

"Greetings." I mentally say at the crystal, wondering if I'll get any sort of reply this time either.

It sorta buzzes.

[jakarta]

It buzzes again...and sings a few notes.

Something in one of the cabinets buzzes back....

[Ramsus]

I go check out where the buzzing in the cabinets is coming from.

[jakarta]

It is one of the lower cabinet doors, and it isn't locked.

It opens easily.

Your crystal buzzes, and something inside answers. It is an orange egg shaped gem.

There are several crystals and stones and rolls of paper and black sticks and metal rings and bottles of glowing liquid on the shelves.

Power and Magic. Take them Master.

[Ramsus]

I pick up each of the objects, starting with the orange gem, and examine them. Mainly trying to determine what they do and how I would use them or if I even can.

[jakarta]

Your familiar interjects.

Scrolls Master. Magic words. Must teach you to read before you can use them. Will take long time to learn.
For now take them. When we are away I will teach you.

Potions. You drink them. Some give power for short time. Others cause harm. Thatone will heal you if you are injured. The others I need time to study. Take them.

Wands. Store magical power. You cannot use them now. I will teach you when we are away from this place. Tack them.

Rings Master. Put those two*. One on each hand.
Will protect you. Keep the other. I need to study it.

Take that gem. Stores power. I need to study.

That is a book. Gives you knowledge, but I need to teach you to read first. Take it.

That is a pearl of power. Allows you to cast more spells. Useful after I teach you magic. Take it.

The rest are complicated, difficult to use. Take only if you have room. Otherwise, do not burden yourself with them Master.

I put all the things in my bag, aside from the two rings that my talkative familiar mentioned is protective. Which I put on as suggested.

Then I release the blue thing without legs.

[jakarta]

The blue guy floats around you.

((Is he speaking aloud or telepathically?))

"Tell me about yourself, what you know of the others here, and of the creatures that have put us in this place." I reply.

[jakarta]

(The words you hear in your head don't quite match the words that he speaks. )

I am Abdul. I am jin. I am your slave. I fetch spells. They all spirits or slaves. Captors kill my master. Put me under jar. I still can not leave this place.

[Ramsus]

((Huh? I'm wondering if the communication is happening mentally or with our mouths and ears.))

"Why can you not leave?"

(Both. But you don't understand the language he is speaking. You understand the telepathic part. The bat guy is only using telepathy.)

This building is protected.
I can not shift to another plane.

I too cannot shift, Master. Nor can I communicate with the lower plane. We must physically leave this place.

[Ramsus]

I look around to see how the other familiars are behaving.

[jakarta]

The insect with the wings and the other batwinged one are pressed against the glass looking at you.

The sitting insectoid is still sitting.

The rest don't have faces to read.

[Ramsus]

"Why did you call the one similar to you insane? Would it not be useful to me?" I ask my first familiar.

[jakarta]

It is naturally lawful yet deceitful. Long captivity has made it unstable.

Yes, it is most crazy, but just as deceitful as that one. All advice it gives self serving.
It wants you strong only so it will be strong. But I also want your protection, and so want you strong.

[Ramsus]

"Would any of you recommend I claim any of these others?" I ask my collective familiars.

[jakarta]

[They will offer power but will confuse you. They will make you vulnerable.

"The flame and the spark are elemental and primal forces. They will probably give you some control over like powers. The fairy is a healer. The grig will most likey not harm you. The mantis seems peaceful and has the pose of a teacher. I don't know about that thing." he finishes, pointing at the bent metal thing with the eyes.

[Ramsus]

"Will they make me vulnerable or is my first familiar lying for their own benefit? And tell me what gifts those I have already claimed give me Abdul." I say.

Then looking to my first familiar I ask, "What is your name?"

[jakarta]

The more familiars have you, Master, the greater chance you may be hurt from their loss.

Master, I will show you the way of the Sha' ir,
those who commune with the elements and the gen. This is magic. And the ways of the desert I will show you.

I do not know what the shadow and the crystal have given you, though the crystal did show you to the items in the cabinet.

My previous master called me 'fatso'. You may call me what you wish. But Master, more important is what you call yourself.

[Ramsus]

"I am Brassheart. You can name yourself whatever you like. Though I hope nothing as insipid as fatso." I reply. Thinking over my options I release the spark and the fairy.

[jakarta]

The spark disappears with a *pop* into the crystal, which buzzes a bit.

The fairy floats above the jar containing the Grig and begins bouncing up and down and chiming.
