That expression of her's in the second panel is just so...

I really need to figure out just what makes me dislike her so much. This can't be good for me.

Tilly ignored Hanners' instructions and (almost) Dora's prohibition. She's not long for the coffee shop, at this rate.

Let's see. Hanners' mom called Tilly 'Taffy' during the few minutes she was talking to Hannelore, before she zapped the horse and Hanners threw her phone into the wall. Could Hanners have imprinted on the name so much right then she can't correct her mental processes? Does Mom have that much control over her?

There's the possibility that it's just that every time Tilly has corrected Hannelore, she's whispered/murmured/muttered (based on text size). Could be Hanners just hasn't heard?

That would be my guess, rather than Hannelore's deliberately being a jerk about it.

I call her entire "I call the Police for you so they actually physically remove me from the premise" a bluff. Why? Because every one else would react to "I'm calling the police" with "Ok ok, I get the hint, calm down, I'm leaving" or "Ok, do it, I don't care, I'm gonna murder you before they get here anyway". What she did suggest is so utterly ridiculous, that she knew almost nobody would agree to it. Especially if she has read any psych profile on Hanners.

And now she's blatantly ignoring Hanners wishes and instructions again. She gets told that she's not allowed behind the counter so half a minute later she tries to climb over it? Does she want to get shot or stabbed by Dora?

I am impressed that Hanners isn't having a freakout/anger explosion already. Either she really feels better, or her illness is not bothered by this. Or it's slowly building up beneath the chemicals, and calling her Taffy is a little signal that things are getting off.

    Hannelore's mother said:

    Taffy, or something like that.
It is plausible, that from now on, until the end of her current employment, her name is irrevocably Taffy, and Hannelore is just going with the flow of what will be.

Okay, so as it turns out, Tilly is super bad at her job, which makes this whole adventure a lot less interesting.

Yes and no. She might be the bomb as an actual PA in a business scenario, but Hanners isn't playing that game, and so Taffy's out of her element.

Another possibility is that Hannelore heard a tell in her mother's speech, and knows Taffy is nothing like Tilly's name, which therefore isn't Tilly. Thirdly, it could be a recurrence of the old gag "are you Tilly or what?" "I'm Watt".

Aaaand I'm back to hating everything about Tilly. That isn't doing your job, that's getting in the way out of excitement.

I hate everything about this "arc", the already large cast for what it is didn't need a new character, and it's just getting obnoxious with each day. Someone let me know when this tilly crap is over with.

It's probably farfetched, but I sort of wonder if Hannalore's mother had a whole other ulterior motive in setting this up- rather than genuinely thinking Hannalore needed a personal assistant, she dispatched this particular doofus who would unknowingly compel her daughter to become more forceful and assertive, and maybe someday be ready to take over the family empire.

Sigh. Theres a difference between not understanding boundaries and ignoring them. Tilly is doing the latter, most evidently when she tried to jump over the counter shortly after being told she isn't allowed to be behind the counter.

    Yes, I don't think she's that literal.

And yes, I'm starting to think this actually might be a lesson "you need to fight back, always, even against me" from her mom.

Tilly is starting to become like fingernails scratching on a chalkboard. She needs to begin paying attention to Hannelore's reactions to her actions and adapt her behavior accordingly.

Severe depression, OCD, anxiety, and autism here. Y'all don't need to tell me.

But the fact that every character introduced is mentally ill in some way or another for some reason bothers me.

I think it's just for the sake of drama. Partly it probably also is because the early strips portrayed whacky unhealthy behaviour without much thought, and later it was rationalized as psych health issues.

I still don't understand why Taffy had to be added to the mix in the first place. Why not bring back Marigold instead? It's been at least a year or two since we saw her last iirc.

Even at her most anti-social, Hannelore was never this grating, right?
