I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. Just in case you don't know, Birmingham has very impressive medical facilities, and they're all over the place.

Now that sounds a bit dangerous--what if you bump into something? Isn't there a good chance the box will slide forward and cause you harm? Or are we talking a box that's very high as well as very long?

My local relatives and I are all in what appears to be a "not buying a truck" standoff*, since if anyone in the family buys a truck, the entire extended family will suddenly know someone with a truck. No one wants a truck badly enough to go first in that sort of situation.

*Technically, my stepdad owns two trucks: he has a Scout International he's modified for off-road use, and a '70s Ford pickup with a canopy over the bed (with a small door rather than a tailgate) that makes it less useful as a pickup for a lot of "truck" sorts of tasks. (Assuming it's running right now, it may or may not have worked for this since bookcase packages from Ikea are small enough to fit through the door, but assuming it's running is kind of a big assumption at any given point and I try not to take vehicles older than I am on a grand tour of the city's freeways.)

On the side of my head, not the back, and it was jammed in there pretty tight, but it was still dangerous because of the diminished visibility.

But probably the lumber out the window trip was probably more dangerous, or the time I carried a ladder on a Crown Vic, or the time I rode a motorcycle that leaked a quart of oil every ten miles, or....

Happy vacation! Are you going to leave your frozen hellscape of wintry death to a slightly less frozen hellscape? Or maybe somewhere warm, like New Zealand?

I am visiting scenic Dad's House while he's on actual vacation, and I'm taking the month off from work for various reasons while doing so.

Oh LaZodiac. I forgot to tell you. If you're boss is that abusive to you , well my honest suggestion is that you should reported to HR about your boss abusive behaviour. They'll listen to you.

The only snag right now is my stupid **** of a sister wants to stay for the duration. If she does I may as well ****ing just go to work and ruin all my plans. I'm probably just being overly negative and defeatist because today was kinda ****ty and terrible.

HERETIC! Pineapple does not go on pizza!

Curiously enough, the inverse is my standard response whenever someone gets confused about me not liking something that's considered universally tasty (most commonly cheese). Even most diehard cheese evangelics are placated by a "More for you!".

    ION:
We had snow. Had. It was quite okay in depth, covered the land even if the trees had managed to shrug off most of it. Sadly, +5°C and near storm winds are super effective against any form of snow cover, and over the course of a single day yesterday, it all melted away.

What's double sad is that I'm going to a party this Saturday with a "coldest night of the winter" theme, and they just lost all of their scenic snow. Even if it's supposed to drop into the negatives again on Saturday, there's little to no chance of them getting any of it back again...

I...don't see how that's in keeping with the forum at all. Especially its philosophy that no poster is better than any other.
