Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
Gotta hate those days: Strong wind coming over from Siberia, bright sunny weather, you go outside unprotected for a smoke and you're frozen stiff.
Funny thing happened at the train station today. Got into a talk with a refugee from Afghanistan about some proper Shakshuka and the guys actually offered me his six-pack of packaged flat-bread to try out.
Today is really strange, tho. As usual, got onto the train, took a seat, opened a bottle of beer and grabbed a newspaper lying around. Now that really flashed me, as it pleased me that I grabbed a copy of Jungle World. So five pages in, things are a bit funny, so I flip to the from side to check the date: 17.10.2001. What the eff? Why is a way more than a decade old newspaper lying around in the train?Last edited by Florian; 2018-03-17 at 05:25 PM.

Now I want to buy a bunch of newspapers and store them in a way to preserve them as much as possible. Just so I can leave them lying around in a decade or so.

My completely awesome avatar (I call her Quill) has been generously crafted by the esteemed Honest Tiefling!

Reminds me of Terry Pratchett's "Strata", where (for not readily explainable reasons) a company puts artificial fossils into rocks for future archaeologists to find, and an employee gets into trouble for having one of the fossil dinosaurs holding up a sign saying "End Nuclear Testing Now"...

First day of internship done. Well, I got home about a couple hours ago. Got to leave early because my Wacom's drivers need admin access, and ICT support couldn't come in today. I really need to have it calibrated and get pen pressure working.

Wait. I think I said that wrong.
I don't even remember what I was going to say; something about cannibalism and inaccurate cartoons?

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
I'm moving for the second time of my life, leaving my student corridor behind for a life on my own in my very own apartment. It's... a break with a life which already is well past me, but which I've refused to admit I'm no longer living. I loved my student years, but I was never very good with living the student life. It takes time for me to figure out how the world around me works, especially the world of socialisation. Nearly three years is what I've pinned it down to. Sadly, life seems to come and go in three year segments, and so whenever I've figured it all out and stand ready to dive right in, it moves again, and instead I stand just as clueless before the new uncharted territory as I did so many times before.
There's always the separation anxiety, too. I've made good friends in this corridor, and moving away, even if it's just a pair of kilometres away, I'm still afraid of losing them. I've never been very good at maintaining friendships. If I don't feel an obligation to talk to a person, I'll eventually run out of things to say. Topics will start to seem too trivial, or obvious, or intrusive, and as time passes, even if I still consider them treasured friends, I'll grow fearful of hitting that "Send" button, of disturbing them, of the thought that they might not think the same of me anymore...
I'm sorry about the ramble, I just needed to de-angst myself a little bit. I don't like accepting that there are things that are too late to do now (I mean, to some extent I'm right, but it won't be the same thing). I don't like accepting that time marches on...Clouddreamer Teddy by me, high above the world, far beyond its matters...

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
I really relate to this sentiment. Like... So many things in my life happen in a three year cycle/segments. It's almost always been three years, give or take a few months. In my case I feel like there's also this... inner thing that affects the three year cycle (all of my experience in schooling & nursery happened in three year segments - 3 years per school), and it has sort of made me live in this mindset even though there's clearly things that indicate the three years come from outer influences as well.

Re: Dark Shadow's Surprisingly Well-Lit Random Banter #217
I mean, I've been dividing my life in three-year segments purposefully for a while now.
Every three years, just sort-of look at your life and reassess if everything is still the way you want it. Don't need to plan out your life to a T (well, I don't anyway), but it's good to take stock every so often. Am I still in the flat/work/relationships I want to be, that kind of thing. I think it's pretty healthy.
Also, hiAwesome fremetar by wxdruid.
