The number by each character's name is the sum of the points awarded to the character on all ballots in the Character Popularity Poll thread over the past week. The characters in the Wildcard Blocks are ones that somebody loved, but not enough people gave them points to make it to the Top 12 who have automatic seeding. So they have to fight it out one more time and only one can go on to get the 15th seed.

Whoever wins the 15th seed goes on to face the 2nd Seed in Round 1 of the Tournament. So the character who wins this will take on Redcloak, one on one.

We will start with 2 days allotted for debate and persuasion and then around this time Monday afternoon voting will (officially) begin, and I will begin posting running tallies regularly. The next day on Tuesday the debate stage for another 3 matchups will begin, but the voting will continue on the three that started today until NEXT Saturday.

Once voting begins, you may give 1 point, 2 points, or no points to every character. 1 point means you have positive feelings for that character, and 2 means that you have STRONG positive feelings about that character. You don't have to specifically say you are giving a character 0, if you omit someone from your ballot, that is the assumption, and that would be for any character you have no significant positive feelings about-- whether or not that means you actively dislike the character or are just "meh".

The qualifications for "Favorite" are personal and up to the decision of each balloter alone. This is not a competition for who would win in a fight, or who is the most moral UNLESS that is what makes them YOUR favorite.

The Wildcards especially are where characters that are favorites of only a few compete, so now is the time to make your case for why we should give a point or two to a character we had never thought much about before.

I like the whole "one nod, two nods" thing.

Nobody seems to be doing the "hold off on voting, give people a chance to make their case and sway votes" thing!

Oh, well, that's okay. How about we make it you can vote as soon as you want, but you are free to change your vote if someone's persuades you to change your mind. Up until Monday afternoon when all votes become official and that's when I begin a running tally.

It's gonna take some convincing for me to give any nods to anybody in this block.

Banjo is a funny gag, but not really a character.

Enor is sweet, but mainly a reason for us to empathize with Gannji, leading up to his face turn.

Bloodfeast is cool, but not really a character, again.

I agree with all three of these points, but
A) SOMEONE will win, presumably, and if you don't like any of the candidates, you can probably just pretend that giving someone a 2 is equivalent to saying "out of the candidates in this block, this one is one of my favourites, even if he is not one of my favourites overall.

B) While Bloodfeast and Banjo aren't REALLY character,s so I can't really like them AS characters, they are in the character tournament, so I'm basically going to say that if I like what they've done in the story, I like them in the context of this vote, even though they aren't actually characters.

After all, it IS a competition to get "slay living" from Redcloak. I don't see any of the mooks in this block pulling off a crazy wildcard upset.

I'm not sure I really see the motivation for a "debate" time frame, since a) I think most people already have a pretty good idea of which characters they'd like to vote for, and b) everyone is alrsssy voting . I'll hold off until Monday, but in the future I think it might be better to just have an extended period to vote and let people explain their rationale for their votes during the same time.

Hmm, well, I did make the "two days of debate and persuasion" thing optional, since it was being ignored anyway. I see one of the biggest values to a thing like this is prompting conversation and debate of why people love who they love.

Also: I feel like people are missing out on the third contest that is also currently going on. It's not just two of the wildcard blocks posted currently, but also one of the first-round one on one matchups: Xykon vs Elan.

Could be people just aren't as interested in that one, but also possible that some missed it down there?

I don't know if there's much to say. The Hobgoblin Supreme Leader* is the most interesting one of these, by far. Shame only Kickstarter people really know much about him.

*Assuming it's the one I'm thinking about.

Oh! I just assumed it was the Hobgoblin Supreme Leader who appeared in comic #149. Redcloak says "that was your Supreme Leader, right?" about the cleric he killed, and Supreme Leader was like "yep, that was him!"

I had no idea there were other possibilities from the KS-only material....

Bloodfeast the Extreme-inator has a bad-a** name! He had a spectacular entrance. He gladly saved Enor, his co-competitor here. He makes a perfect album cover for heavy metal bands. He is an athlete! And he makes the cutest noises when asleep. How could anybody not give him all the points?

I agree about Banjo being "meh". Banjo comics are great, but what makes them great is Elan. Without his only worshipper, Banjo is nothing. Quite the definition of a god in this comic, actually.
