It is painful to see how the tiny archnides mercilessly attack the woman - or rather it is painful to be that woman. Sharp mandibles puncture her skin and already the puncture marks begin to redden and swell.
She manages to stick one of the things with her dagger, but the venom seems to start its work already.Last edited by Pyrophilios; 2017-11-01 at 02:05 PM.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
And with a final stab the little vermin is done for
Spoiler
You gain 800 XP
Time for a diplomacy or bluff check - your decision
Gain a +2 circumstance modifier if you tell a nice story
You hear footsteps and have just enough time to resume your normal form when Riaris Krine, the Wormwood's master gunner, flanked by two other pirates appears in the trap door above.
"What in the Nine Hells unshaven asscrack of a fricken show is going on down here?"
You spot a third pirate that is holding the bleeding Fipps - equally stabilizing him and preventing him from running away.
Whatever you say next, you realize, will heavily determine how this situation resolves

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
Dang, Ryotsu wishes he had a few more moment to prepare for this. At least he could return his human form. Still, he was as cunning and tricky as his people were known for and had a story planned from the minute Aretta collapsed.
"So you've brought that coward back!" Ryotsu shouts, his voice tinged with a slight growl. "That sniveling mess of a men abandoned us when those spider's nest was disturbed! And when I tried to keep him from fleeing, he stabbed me! I don't know what that craven rat told you, but this woman is dead because of his actions."
With that said, he turned to kneel beside Aretta, checking her for life. He silently hopes that he doesn't find anything.
Spoiler: OOCHeal check, if applicable: (1d20)[5]
I don't know if that counts as bluff or diplomacy, since it's half true. I'll give you diplomacy, and if you decide it's the other just add -1.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
SpoilerYou had time to return to your human form
"That's a dirty lie, this animal tried to kill us both!"
Fipps seems a bit deranged, which isn't exactly helpful for his credibility.
Riaris takes a closer look and just says: "Call the Stichman. He'll know what to make of those wounds."
She gives you a cold look, but at least she doesn't seem to be particularly hostile towards you - or rather she is equally hostile to you as to the other pirates. All in all it's an improvement compared to Plugg or Scourge.
It doesn't take long for the Stichman to arrive.
After examining the wounds on all of you and closing Arettas eyes for a final time he shakes his head: "The boy seems to tell the truth. Aretta died from multiple bite wounds and a lot of poison.
The bilge is a dangerous place - even more so if the crew isn't helping each other. Get her out of here and over board before she starts to smell."
The master gunner is satisfied with that answer and lets you leave the bilges. The screaming Fipps is put into the small box at the base of the main mast - a hot box for anyone violating ship rules.
You hear the remnants of a heated argument between the master gunner and Scourge which the resolute woman seems to decide for herself.
You only have a few minutes to get a bit of breath back before you are called up to the fore deck. Crimson, Rosie and Conchobhar are also here and Riaris doesn't waste any words for pleasantries - if you discount the various vulgarities she spews forward first:
"It's time you lot got your boarding pass and learned what being a pirate is really about.
You'll row out with the dingie and throw grappling hooks on deck.
When you have managed that, you'll climb on board. If you manage that, you have passed.
You have three tries each. After that it's a lash for every failed attempt.
GO!"
You see various sailors appear around you and they all carry various pieces of trash and refuse, grinning like this is one of the finer pirate entertainments...
Spoiler
Using a grappling hook untrained is a ranged touch attack -4 vs. AC 10
Afterwards it's a climbing check vs. 10 (you are pelted with garbage and bilge water while you climb)
For every point above the dc you move one feet forward. You have to move a total of 20 ft.
If you fail you fall into the water and have to begin again.
You have three tries, before Riaris calls it a day.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
"So this is the pirate training camp I've heard about." Ryotsu says, looking up at the ship from the dingy. "Well, here goes nothing." With that said, the kitsune hurls the a hook towards the ship railings. It's the first time he's used one, so he doesn't expect much. Would still be great if he didn't get any lashes though.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
With a very unsatisfactory "plop" the hook falls into the sea. It takes a few moments to retract it for another try. Your companions are similarly luckless - except for Rosie who is already climbing towards the ship.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
Another "plop" although closer to the mark this time.
By now only you and the gnome are still on board while Crimson starts climbing like an ape.
You see how Conchobhar murmurs something under his breath and the hook moves slowly but safely towards the railing.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
Ryotsu laughs as he sees what the gnome does. While he has gotten some good use out of prestidigitation, there's always a new trick to be learned. The kitsune adds his own spin on the trick. First, he casts the spell on the grappling hook before throwing it towards the railing. As it reaches the peak of it's arc, he'll use the magic to guide the momentarily weightless piece of metal home.
Spoiler: OOCI don't know if you want to add a bonus on or not, but here's the standard roll.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
Spoiler
Technically, the gnome uses mage hand. But Prestidigitation works too for a last second adjustment
Onward to the climbing test.
And I don't know, but maybe you need to sacrifice a goat or something so the forum dice roller doesn't permanently roll so low for you
Your grapple hook finally lands where it is supposed to land, but you notice it's not really secure. That is, until a sudden lurch moves it to the side a bit so it bites down on the wood.
Conchobhar grins at you and gives you an erected thumb before he starts to climb his own rope.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
Two foot in and already sweat is forming on your forehead. Rosie already has managed to climb on board, while Crimson has taken an unwilling bath due to a particularly well aimed rotten tomato. You are still too far away to be a target.
But not for the encouragement of the Master Gunner. Her kind expletives are pretty motivating to give this endeavor your best efforts.

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
The second attempt works much better and you make quite a bit of headway - of course now you are also targeted by the crew. Luckily their aim is rather enthusiastic then accurate.
The gnome has managed through some trick to hold on to his rope despite being the main target of bombardment. But it looks like he won't be able to withstand the concentrated fire much longer

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
Your kindly act almost costs you your own place in the race - luckily, the gnome repays you the favor instantly and with remarkable agility helps you to get ahold of the railing. Shielded for the moment with your body from the pelting of refuse, the gnome makes a chittering sound.
With rising terror you realize that a grey fin has appeared in the water below you. But before you can call out a warning, something grey and large jumps up from the water.
To your eternal surprise it's a large dolphin and it's jump hits the gnome from below and vaults him over the railing.
The crew is to stunned by this stunt to do anything else for a moment except stare - the perfect time for you to climb on board while you are not bombarded

Re: Skull's & Shackles Solo
Spoiler
I'd say it's the power of friendship
Gain another 800 XP and a +2 trait bonus to climbing while you are within reach of your friends
Teamwork pays off - with elegance and panache you are now both on board and as if you had talked about it beforehand you both pull out your fencing weapons, as if ready to take on the boarded ship.
Riaris seems pleased by the performance and stops cursing for a moment to give a rare word of praise:
"That's more like it.
It's getting late, haul in the dingy and then get ready for chow. Dismissed everybody."
