Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
The doctor looked at the bodies to examine them and for afflictions (heal: (1d20+5)[6]). He then heals all of them once (27 hp), and turns to Gušleifur saying I cannot imagine needing either destructive weapon.

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
Mason is able to determine that the people are still alive, but little else. They're all humans, in their early 30s, and they seem to be wearing military uniforms.
Once healed, colour returns to their faces and they appear much healthier, but they still don't move.

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
Upon hearing the folks were still alive Snar comments, "Not much of a life really. Just lying there, being all pale."
He walks back outside of the hut looking bored. He wanders up to (whoever posts next) and says, "So, what brought you out to these woods in the first place. Beautiful scenery, but seems like a tricky place for a picnic."

Seeing no trouble outside, Joe heads inside as Snar goes by. They were on the same team, though, so his question should probably go to someone else.
"I could sure use the fire and acid."

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
The Door scratches his helmet, confused that snar adresses him after the outburst he had before.
"I serve the family of the Dawncasters already for a long time, mostly the young lady Cassandra Dawncaster, and Jaspend, the village they reside, suffers much under the lack of food.
So Lord Dawncaster sent me to look for food.
What about you, you don't look like you care much about food.
We should probably head back to the road and tell the soldiers what we've found here."Last edited by Clockyard; 2018-04-11 at 08:47 AM.

Naa, not back to these soldiers. Next time they shoot me in the head or something like this...
We should finally go to Cervus' Hollow.

"But we can't just stroll through the forest, we'd get lost very soon. Not to mention that there might be more things that try to eat us.
And on the road were the soldiers waiting. They wanted food as a toll, didn't they? Why don't we bring them some snake steaks?"

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
Like I told them, I tell you now: they are armed men. They should be able to hunt some food. And really? Soldiers that blackmail somebody who wants to help them?
Let's hit the road behind these guys...

But these are just people trying to survive, and hunting with armor and swords might not be easy. And if we give them the dead snakes they might not pester the people who travel the road any longer.

Mason offered his own opinion Of course hunting with a sword won't be easy, which is why they can do so with a bow.
Spoiler: OOCI believe everybody here has the (Player) subtype and are thus immune to diplomacy attempts.

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
Spoiler: OOCI agree that the choice of whether or not to listen to the argument is entirely within the player's hands.
However, if you want to roll to see how persuasive you are, and if another player chooses to consider the roll in their decision, I see no harm in that.
In other words, don't manipulate the party. If you want to use it, be aware that it's all up to how everyone else reacts.
It's just a friendly, casual game, after all.

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
Yeah give 'em the snakes, the maggots I offered them, they refused. But why should we walk backwards once we are on the road again?
We came from here and want to go somewhere in this direction. The soldiers - with crossbows by the way - are somewhere over there?
Gušleifur pointed in different direction, not sure if he still knows where the road lies.

The Door nods, just a tiny movement with his helmet. "You gave them Food and they refused? They are stupid then. And we should go as fast as possible anyway."
He starts to march off more or less into the direction Gušleifur pointed, and then stops after a few feet.
"I have no idea if this is the right direction."

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
You've done a fairly thorough search, looking in all the obvious hiding places - the rafters, the fireplace, and the like. You can't say for certain that there's nothing left to find, but it would have to be very well hidden.
There are, however, a number of uninspected and unidentified items; these include several potions, a pin, some arrows, and a silk pouch.
You also haven't taken anything but some alchemist's fire and acid, I believe; could everyone make a note of what they're taking and what you're leaving behind before you leave?

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
With a sad and sober heart, the demonic little halfling said, "We need to focus, slow down, and talk less." That's probably the most hypocritical thing he's ever said. "I know that sounds hypocritical from me, but seriously, you've spent far more time arguing about feeding the soldiers that we're missing out on feeding everyone else. Let's just gather up everything edible" He tapped a dead spider with his foot. regardless of whether or not it is pretty or not it is pretty, and take it to someone hungry, regardless of whether or not the hungry person is a jerk face."
Spoiler: OOCI think we can be nicer about the diplomacy check. To me- and I might be alone here- the roll is in indication of how convincing the comments were. It is still up to the player to play the PC, but if your PC just herd something they might not like but you know it was put really, really well, then the player might choose to play the PC differently. We envision our PCs in ways that are somewhat restrictive but your PC and the world they live in is complicated and dice add balance and spontaneity.
FOR EXAMPLE: how Snar said the things above is up in the air given it's all in text. You're welcomed to read the final number below however you wish or disregard it all together
(1d20+4)[9]
In this case (a of 5 + 4) he probably said it well but with a lack of charisma.Last edited by Brian_Gishlover; 2018-04-15 at 12:32 PM.

We should drop off the not-quite-dead soldiers with the soldiers on the road, too. Unless Mason can remove paralysis or something.

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
It would seem Gušleifur chose the right direction; you find the road quite quickly, and you can even spot the place where the soldiers set up the roadblock.
Upon looking closer, it seems you have little choice of whether or not to sneak past the soldiers; you see that the beasts of burden and supplies you left on the road are still there. You can avoid the soldiers if you wish, but you'll be leaving a lot behind.

As they could spot the soldiers, Gušleifur searched and found the one with the nervous finger. He kept his eyes locked on him. Next time he will not be so forgiving...

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
You can pick him out quite easily, but it doesn't look like he'll be much of a threat. None of them will, in fact; as you get closer, you can see that they've gotten into the drink you left behind, and are now well beyond the point where they're capable of fighting.

Nonetheless, this single soldier could have been the cause for a huge fiasco. Especially while drunk they can become a bigger problem than before.

The Door walks towards his beautiful black steed.
"Wiecza my beauty, don't worry, I won't leave you behind.
These soldiers have what they wanted already."
Then he walks towards the Soldiers, leading the horse behind him.
"We'd like to pass now" he then demands.

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
The leader looks up at you from his spot on the ground, struggling just to keep his balance.
"Aye, you can pass if you want. You've paid your toll, no doubt there!"
You can see that, as drunk as they seem to be, there isn't that much drink missing.
Did you bring the people you found in the hut, by the way, or leave them behind?

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
An out of breath demonic halfling finally makes it to where the soldiers are with his semi-corpse guard being drug behind him. From about 75 feet off he yelled, "WE... MEET... AGAIN!
He was huffing, out of breath. From about 25 feet away he continued, We brought you a treat!" He sounded like a child showing some treasure as it was clearly a collapsed guard that he was dragging.
He set down the guard and at his typical 15 miles a minute talking rate he continue between huffs, "Still alive and everything!... We killed... the spiders and whatnot. Just walk on up that way and... to the right there. Walk inside the hut and BINGO!... About 7 mostly dead soldiers we saved... from spiders and snakes and a naked... woman."
He let that sink in for a moment. "Seems like the life of half a dozen guards y'all were just going to let get eaten should more than cover a few coppers."
He did not wait for an answer before walking past the questionably drunk leader.

Re: (3.5) For Want of a Nail... (Red)
As Gušleifur was passing the soldiers he spit on the ground to show his disrespect (in the gras - not on the soldiers or next to their feet, but so that they could see him).
You guys are a shame for every soldier, everywhere! Highwaymen and brigands, not more!
