How the heck do I disable url/address suggestions on Chrome?

So... I really really want to disable address bar/url suggestions/auto-finish in Chrome.
The only answer that usually pops up via googling is "delete all history and bookmarks and always use incognito mode", but I'm certain there must be some more realistic way. Can anyone help me out?

Settings->Show Advanced Settings->Under Privacy and Security turn off 'Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLS typed in the address bar.'

This turns off Search suggestions also. So if you wanted suggestions while doing a search you would need to use the search engine page instead of the address bar.

No, because Unless I am mistaken, as soon as new history/cookies are formed, it will return to giving suggestions, no?

I don't know if this is true, but what I'm saying is, maybe you turned off the prediction as VexingFool suggested, BUT since you haven't deleted your existing history and cookies, the browser still use that to give you use that. Basically, you just told the browser to stop giving prediction starting that time, but the existing prediction still exist.

So maybe, if you delete all the existing suggestions first, THEN you tell the browser to stop giving predictions, you will have what you want.
