That does have the virtue of feeling less game-mechanic-y.

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
Yeah, Faux Paw also has only +5 to climb checks as well. Though If I could shift into a fox form, I'd be able to use my dex bonus.. but I don't have thumbs. But I'd be really light.

I'm going to put up the update for group 1 tomorrow, or potentially both groups actually lol.
Long day kinda put me behind schedule.

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
I didn't see Kazik's Ref save. For Erik, make sure you copy over your OOC checks into your IC spoiler, including important things like your OOC saves. This one's on me, but future checks you don't copy over, you'll eat, so build good habits!
If you can't make your rolls you can ask me to do them for you, just list your bonus to save me time if you can.

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
Would Erik automatically know anything about gloams from his past experience, or would I need to make a knowledge check?

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
Knowledge. Though the results won't be completely accurate regardless of the result, as you don't possess the unique skills required to ID Veilbeasts.
Erik doesn't know what a 'Gloam' is; but Light Eaters, most mercs have at least heard of them. Though myth and fact might as well be the same thing for any sellsword who has braved the depths. People don't know much about Veilbeasts at all, even after having faced one (hell, you still don't know what that big hand was, and that's hard to miss.) The only 2 sources for information on them that are documented come from independent Surveyors and the so-called 'monster manuals' carried by company leaders (typically Harriers). These manuals are secret books which have compiled their experiences against various beasts and their observations. With a handful of exceptions, Veilbeasts don't have one standard-name by which they're known. Every personal Harrier manual, or record from a Deep Surveyor, name and detail an encounter independently, and information is not shared or fact-checked amongst other groups. This makes information and 'knowledge' vary wildly; from the hundreds of names they're addressed by, to their supposed powers, and much of it often isn't true at all. Actual understanding of what Veilbeasts even are is virtually non-existent, and so people are often unable to accurately interpret the events unfolding around them.
Also keep in mind, few people come out of these places alive, even without the risk of otherworldly creatures.
Staying to tango with a Veilbeast to find out what it does, when they don't even know what they are or how they persist in these areas, that's a good way to join all the other failures.

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
Alright, then I'll try a knowledge roll. I'm untrained, so I can't get higher than a 10, but maybe it'll be enough to learn something like "don't turn a light on or they become more aggressive."
Not sure what to roll, I'll do Arcana and planes; I'm only adding my Int to everything but Arcana, though, so substitute whatever works.
Arcana: (1d20+4)[21] (Max 10)
Planes: (1d20+2)[14] (Max 10)
...that should probably have been at the end of my IC post. Does the darkness affect our ability to climb?Last edited by Stevesciguy; 2019-04-03 at 03:11 PM.

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
Gonna make rolls. I'll be sure to actually include them in my IC this time.
Climb Check 1: (1d20+7)[24]
Climb Check 2: (1d20+7)[25]
Climb Check 3: (1d20+7)[17]
Extra Effort 1 of 4:
Climb Check 1: (1d20+7)[12]
Climb Check 2: (1d20+7)[20]
Climb Check 3: (1d20+7)[14]
Ok, failed that last one, but not badly enough to fallLast edited by Stevesciguy; 2019-04-03 at 04:24 PM.

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
Good climbing overall. That's going to help a lot. Next round will be pretty rough.
I should have group 2 and Stella IC up tonight as well. Not sure where Machari is again, no pms yet, but we're pressing forward. If Regina drops her though she'll be dead very quickly since she hasn't gotten any more rolls to recover from her helpless condition. Don't think it's likely she'll be able to lug her around til they escape. Hopefully she comes back soon. Stuff is about to pop-off.

When the transition magically put all of our gear in place, was Walt's gun loaded or unloaded?

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
How do we determine how far we can throw a grappling hook? Just the standard grappling hook rules?
(If it is then I'm going to target D10, 30 feet means a -4 to the attack roll, I think)

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
should have figured that wouldn't work
(1d20+9)[15] - 4 = 11, so I think that connects. Since I use a move action to pull out the rope and hook and a standard to throw it, that means I can't actually climb this round right?
edit: sleepy time, will finish post tomorrow morn
edit2: actually thinking about it now the darkness probably impedes throwing a hook accurately, right?Last edited by Chromascope3D; 2019-04-03 at 11:11 PM.

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
Normal grapple rules. Throw vs AC 5, but 50% chance you may miss due to the dark. It may just connect with a different location location though.
If your grapple isn't in hand this round like Erik, then you wont be able to climb during the same round.
lol, potentially everyone can do that, but yes, it's a rabbit-hole. that's also why there's this tutorial, to at least give you a grasp of the basics for those of you who actually intend to try and win the game and save the princess, i mean, the multiverse.

Re: (OOC) The Primeval Dark
One of my scorned powers is the 'Undead Form" ability from here: http://www.finalfantasyd20.com/class...s/gravewalker/
It says it gives me 'the Undead status effect', but what that is isn't described on the site. Does it mean I gain the Undead type?
If so, I might have to activate Mummy-Erik. I have a lot of reasons to do so, despite the risks.
Also, how would HP work, switching back and forth?Last edited by Stevesciguy; 2019-04-04 at 08:25 AM.
