Default Casting voice actors for the oots party and extended world.

So I was trying to explain to my friend how I hear Belkars voice in my head when I read his lines but couldn't quite put put my finger on the actors name.

So here's a few quick ideas of the top of my head and then lets hear yours.

Roy-Samuel L Jackson (This is actually tougher than I thought)
Elan- Tobey Maguire (in the first spidey)
Durkon-Always read him a bit like Sean Connery
Haley-a bit like Summer from Rick and Morty I guess, but Haley predates that, so not sure whose voice I used to read her in)
    V-???
    Belkar-???

    Well, have fun :D

Roy- I find Samuel L Jackson to be, I don't know, maybe too serious for Roy. In my headcanon, he always sounded more like Will Smith: someone who can get serious sometimes, but will be at ease making fun of himself more often than not. My other option would be The Rock (seems good even for a live action).
Elan- He's a though one. I mean, we would need someone who could sound innocent and stupid, and I can't think of anyone who does that without looking somewhat fake.
Durkon- Sean Connery. Perfect. But I'd go with someone like Hugo Weaving for Greg.
    Haley- Beats me.
V- I often hear V as serious, formal. The voice must also have an intermediate pitch, not too high or too low, in order to maintain some gender neutrality. can't think of anyone specific.
Belkar- I don't know if everyone would like it, but he did the Joker, so, Mark Hamill!

I disagree there--I think V would have to be a fast-talking person with an androgynous-sounding voice, and I don't think Mr. Cumberbatch fits that. I'm actually struggling to think of anyone who *would*, though...

Danny Pudi (As Abed) or perhaps the lead singer of Placebo? He has the androgynous thing going on but sounds maybe too Nasally for V.

Not sure if they sound like anyone specific in my head. If I were casting them for an animation or live-action film, though, I would want to see:

    Roy played by Idris Elba.
Elan played by Johnny Knoxville. Alternatively, I would accept Chris Pratt if he played Elan close to how he played Andy on Parks and Rec.
    Haley played by Jennifer Lawrence.
    Durkon played by Simon Pegg.
V played by either Zachary Quinto or Paul Bettany.
    Belkar played by Mark Hamill.

Bonus: The Snarl voiced by Mike Patton, as long as it's similar to how he voiced The Darkness in the video games of the same name.

If we are not restricting ourselves to native english speakers I could see Alexandre Astier to voice Roy as "Noble warrior frustrated by the idiocy (and sometimes plain villainy) of the people he is trying to lead" is what he is typecasted at.

I think Mark Hamill would be better suited as Xykon than Belkar. He just does antagonists so welll.

Off the top of my head, I've picked:

    Idris Elba as Roy

    Jessica Chastain as Haley

    Owen Wilson as Elan

    Tilda Swinton as Vaarsuvius

    Brian Blessed as Durkon

And the hardest for me to "cast" Tom Cruise as Belkar

    What are your picks?

Xykon canonically sounds like James Earl Jones, but that all the lore makes me want Mark Hamill to voice Redcloak.

As for the Order of the Stick, I vote we get Benedict Cumberpatch to voice them all (except maybe Haley). Dude played Khan, Smaug, Doctor Strange and Sherlock. He’s got some range.

Tilda Swinton as V is a very good choice! I just re-watched Doctor Strange last week and she was one of the best parts of the film.

Mark Hamill as Xykon instead of Belkar is also good. I have no idea who should play Redcloak.

I'm not so good at remembering actor's names since I don't watch that many movies, so I'm going to go with what they sound like in my head.

Roy: tenor, a little raspy (he's shouted once too often), speaks quickly.
Belkar: tenor, quiet voice, kind of bites off his words.
Durkon: rumbles. If James Earl Jones can do a Scottish accent, we're done.
V: gender-ambiguous so tenor or alto, erudite, enunciates precisely so those long speeches take even longer. I will put forth a name this time: Meryl Streep.
Haley: soprano. sounds very sweet and innocent, almost childlike. It's an act she developed for years and now it's just her nature.
Elan: tenor, very pleasant voice, also sounds childlike but for completely different reasons than Haley (note: he's not really innocent either).
Xykon: baritone, every word sounds like he's sneering an insult at someone.
Redcloak: bass, quiet, careful speaker, every sentence sounds like he's weighing his words because he is.

DurkonT: reedy, thin voice - he doesn't actually breathe most of the time, after all. He'd be annoying as all get out to listen to for any length of time.
This ... is my signature finishing move!

50% of the world is voiced by Alan Tudyk now that I think about it. Every made up voice in my head is probably done/doable by him.

Billy West, Phil Lamarr, Tress MacNeille, and Maurice Lamarche and call it a day. Let them decide who gets who.

Y'all know voice actors exist, right? Voices are way better when they're unique and individual to the character, instead of "oh hey that raccoon is William Shatner."

    Mark Hamill.

You know what? Just let Mark Hamill voice everybody.

    Edit:

    From Wikipedia:

Hamill has gained a reputation as a prolific voice actor. He first did voice acting work in the early 1970s voicing the character Corey Anders on the Saturday morning cartoon Jeannie by Hanna-Barbera Productions. He later played Sean in the Ralph Bakshi film Wizards,[12] which was released just three months before Star Wars in 1977.

Though the voice role he is most known for is Batman's archenemy the Joker,[18] his success as the Joker has led him to portray a wide variety of characters in television, film, anime, and video games (mostly similar super-villains).

Hamill was the voice of The Hobgoblin in the 1990s Spider-Man animated series, and his other Marvel superhero genre roles include the Gargoyle in the animated series of The Incredible Hulk, Maximus in Fantastic Four, Klaw in Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and multiple characters in Ultimate Spider-Man. Hamill voiced Solomon Grundy and Trickster in the DC animated universe series Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, the murderous gangster Tony Zucco in The Batman, an animated series unrelated to the various DC animated universe series. He voiced Spectre in an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Non-comic related television roles include the deranged shock jock anchorman Dr. Jak in Phantom 2040, Principal John Smith in Totally Spies episode "Soul Collector", Christopher "Maverick" Blair in Wing Commander Academy, the classic Walter Lantz character Buzz Buzzard in The New Woody Woodpecker Show, the flamboyant robot Lawrance "Larry" 3000 in Time Squad, the pirate Captain Stickybeard in Codename: Kids Next Door, the ruler of the Fire Nation Fire Lord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender, the evil Skeleton King in Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, multiple roles in Metalocalypse and the groundskeeper Skips in Regular Show.

    Edit:
Great voice actors are the ones who surprise you when you find out they play a role. They use actual, unique voices for each character, and can do so many things with that voice. It's unbelievable what they can do. There's a documentary I saw once, Maurice Lamarche was talking about a teacher he had in grade school who did a Columbo impression, and after class he went up to the teacher and if you'd closed your eyes you'd have sworn it was Peter Falk suddenly talking, and told the teacher how to really nail the Columbo voice. Voice actors are amazing.

Mark Hamill and Alan Tudyk are among the number of standard actors who, it turns out, are also absolutely fantastic voice actors.
