a tale of five orbs

"Oh... hi, there. Isn't it lonely hanging around here? Btw, my name is Thyria, who are you?"

"Say, it must be frustrating waiting long time then seeing all these people coming and going away without solving the riddle. I mean, the second part of your job is letting them go further. Lemme guess the pedestal is a gate, right? Wouldn't it be satisfying actually finding the worthy individuals and putting them on the right track?"

the voice says "what is time for a rock? i am here to make sure only these with the power of mind will be able to claim me."

Scratching her head Thyria faces her comrades and says "I tried, sorta out of ideas now." Looking at Matthew, "Besides, I don't understand why the rock didn't let you take it."

I dont understand either. So much so that I'm going to try to take it once again Matthew walks up once again, and tries to take the stone.

I never learned much telekinesis, working instead in telepathy. At least, not any that wouldn't have a chance of hurting it. However, if we have no other ideas, I do have one power that will move it, though i may miss, and it may damage the stone.

Sling shrugs at Matthew. "Stone doesn't care. If he's got a problem with it, he'll bring it up." He then looks back at the stone. A look of bafflement appears on his face. "Would you repeat the riddle please? Or rephrase it? I'm not a natural speaker of this language."

Wisp, walks up to roughly the same distance that Thyria is from the rock, and removes the half mask.

"Well, little stone, the question is, what is the power of the mind? Is it the power to spur muscles beyond their limits? Is it the quickness to respond to that which surrounds it? Is it the will to resist what would destroy it? Is it the strength that drives thought? Is it the dexterity to avoid attempts on it? Or is it the force of being which drives it?"

"Perhaps it is all of these, and none of them."

you hear the voice again "that is up to you to find out. find the meaning of mind, and you shall find the answer. the riddle is to find the riddle."
after a short phase you hear it again "i assume i am allowed to say even a god will be unable to hurt me, or any of my four siblings, in any way..."

Wisp heads back up to the platform with the housecat-demons, gambling on the fact that she had not attempted to kill them - rather, they had managed to run before she could do anything.

Presumably, the demons are back again.

When she sees them, she makes herself look as non-threatening as possible, and beckons to them in abyssal in a singsong manner.

"Come here, don't be afraid..." she coos, in an oddly mesmerising tone.

To keep him from Tarsiv, or to shut him up... Matthew mutters as he walks over to the path up and sits down. hmm...what is the meaning of the mind... matthew starts muttering to himself as he goes deep into though.

Wisp gets down on one knee and continues to beckon for them to approach, avoiding anything seeming threatening.

"Do you know round rock riddle?" she asks in abyssal, while doing her best to keep them mesmerised.

Meanwhile Thyria looks over the edge of the platform to see what is below and if there is an other platform, she'll check if the rope is long enough to reach it.

"Hmmm.. those demon cats jumped down and yet they came back, I wonder how gravity works here"

She throws something very small over the edge and follows the trajectory.

the rock falls down, then quickly disappears without a clear reason. (it disappears before the time it should leave your sight.)

"Wisp, do you know a spell to move the rock without touching the barrier?"

Thyria is waiting for Wisp to 'dismiss' the demon cats to get a clean shot.

"I can't actually help in this situation. One in my profession doesn't need to know riddles."

Wisp decides to ask one last question before releasing the housecat.

"What is off platform?" she asks, deliberately making the question simple.

"the other three platforms." answers a "recorded" message on the demon.

"What is on the other three platforms?"

"Is it safe to jump down to them?"

"Can we get back easily if we jump down?"

"What is the rock?"

"Is there anything we should be careful of?"

She asks the questions in succession, waiting for a reply before moving on to the next.

"Others platforms to stand on, and to go from buttom to top, and vica versa."

"Is it safe to jump down to them?"

"Jumping down is rather safe."

"Can we get back easily if we jump down?"

"Its a cycle, down is up."

"What is the rock?"

"Its what you seek"

"Is there anything we should be careful of?"

"Too many mistakes summons the guardian demons. more mistakes=stronger demons."

She asks the questions in succession, waiting for a reply before moving on to the next.

One last question

"What constitutes a mistake?"

"Alright, you can go."

Wisp releases the fascination on the housecat-demons and lets them run off. If/When she sees Thyria preparing to take a potshot at the housecat-demons, she quickly steps in front of her. She wasn't quite sure if killing the demons would release bigger, badder demons, but she wasn't going to take any chances, now that she knew they existed.

"Wait! Don't kill them! Not to be sentimental or anything, but apparently there's bigger, badder demons that'll come out if we mess up too many times."

Wisp also relates the responses of the demons to Thyria, and anybody else who asks.

"Huh?" Thyria is rather surprised when Wisp steps between her and the demons but she does not shoot.

"I threw a small stone down and it disappeared, I guess it appeared on the other platform. If I understand correctly, it is safe to always go down and we will return to this spot again if we go always down. But once we start going up, we will end up elsewhere..."

"Maybe you could try a spell to retrieve the stone. If this doesn't work then we have no other choice but walk the round, always jumping down and trying to solve other riddles there before we can come back with a solution"

"a mistake. is everything you are doing that takes you one step backwords."

Wisp nods. "I think I've got one spell which might do the trick."

She heads back down to the orb, and casts Mage Hand to try and pick it up. "Say, orb, do you know the same premade responses that the housecat-demons know?"

The mage hand lifts the stone with ease.
the orb responds "no, i have a will of my own."
