The three remaining birds swoop down to attack the large unarmored human below them with their talons. Those the first peryton seems a bit distracted by the cruel words directed towards it.

Astar, anticipating this move, seizes his opportunity to attack. He catches the first divebombing peryton and deals a massive blow to it.

Then the 3 of them fly off, 30 feet above the group.

Vittorio comes running out of house, goggles still on, and he looks plenty mad (if in a different sense). He stands next to Astar and Borgio and shouts.

    "HOUSE VOLTANE!"

A flaming magic aura springs up around him and those near him, but they are not burned. Angrily, his magic lashes out at the Invaders of their newly claimed home.

The morning sun rises behind flat grey clouds as the family catches their breath following the brief battle.

While Elizabet and Borgio set to inspecting and hopefully skinning the fallen peryton, the rest of the family finishes the final elements of the new fortress-like home. At long last, the house is complete. Though much of the remaining has been used in the process, some still remains for future projects.

The mix of feathers and fur makes the creature difficult to skin. And the skin itself seems to resist Elizabet's blade.

But in the end, its not so different from the owlbears earlier this week and she and Borgio are able able remove the hide in one beautiful and multicolored piece. One piece except for the skin below the "elbows" and "heels" which is too thin and delicate to salvage.

The scout nodded in satisfaction as she wiped her hands clean on a rag.
    "...Should be useful."
    At Borgio she shrugged.
"...Might serve others better. Not in the front line much. Others attacked more. Seen more. Wouldn't mind it, though."

That done, she prepared to go out scouting further upriver for the others with the remains of the previous expeditions.

When she did, she'd keep an eye open for any rare or valuable plants, such as potential dyes.

The family gathers for the expedition outside Fort Voltane, front door leaned against the threshold, dirt moat crossing removed, drawbridge raised. It looks impressive. It's hard to believe it was built in only two days but there it is - a testament to the strength of the Voltane family.

The air seems loathe to warm this particular morning; no doubt it will be a cold night. And yet the march proceeds nonetheless across the partially frozen ground.

After walking 30 or so minutes, the party come across an area of riverbank with many tracks in the dirt. Easy enough to decipher - these are direwolf tracks about a day old. On further inspection of the riverbank from the family, it seems that this is a very shallow area of the river. Some sort of hard metamorphic rock was exposed by the river and hasn't eroded as quickly as the surrounding riverbed. Though one would have to be careful, this seems like an easy river crossing for a creature like a direwolf or a humanoid.

The family is able to wade across the river crossing. Direwolf tracks can be seen on this side as well. But also some other large creature with unretractable claws. Perhaps an owlbear?

The brush is much thicker on this side of the water with the forest sometimes coming up all the way to the riverbank. Elizabet notices a number of useful native plants growing as she walks. A hazlenut tree, some wild turnips and leeks, and a very beautiful flowering plant that shes never seen before in Sona.

But there are no signs of humanoids - past or present.

After another 30 minutes of walking in cold wet pants, the family reaches the foot of the mountains. A peryton flies lazily overhead though the sky is too dark to see its shadow.

But another creature can be seen flying as well... large and winged but not a bird.

Elizabet pointed out the useful plants as she walked to the other members of the Family. At the unknown plant, she stopped. After ensuring it wasn't likely to poison her, Elizabet carefully plucked a flower, and without a comment, tucked it behind her ear into her hair for safe-keeping.

"...Do any of you recognise it? I don't."

She also peered upwards, trying to determine the new creature above.
