Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
And this justifies you insulting and belittling me. I should have expected no better. Since my opinions are not wanted or given any sort of validation, I will confine my activities on this board to the Games section solely. Unless you feel like belittling and questioning my DMing and player skills.

You consider what Peelee said more insulting and belittling than,
The Giant wrote himself into a corner and now is playing fast and loose with the rules to get out of it.

Ah, yes, "it was just my opinion! You can't dispute opinion!!" defence when someone has no other leg to stand on.
For the record, "a dagger that, at best, does 4 points", "Since when is Belkar's dagger a +5, collision power dagger" and "[Belkar] has thrown this dagger several times" are all statements of fact, not opinions.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
It seems The Giant has given us a look at the effect of Domination on each member of the party in turn. Hilgya only got a blast in there, but I think they've all been accounted for. Next is Durkula's Evil Monologue?
"Join the Dark Side, Roy. Your fate is sealed..."
Maybe in a splash page. Or not. Anticipating what comes next is my favorite part of this comic.
Prediction: a half page of Durkula gloating from his 'throne' followed by a half page panel of Roy doing the Green Lantern thing on the vampires

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
I am trying to grasp where a discussion forum that involves people picking the fly crap out of the pepper (that is what all of this over-analysis of OoTS can be modeled as) is a venue for opinion being given validation.
And I come up empty.
We all toss our observations and opinions into the pile on a forum which exposes them to scrutiny and response.
People either provide an agreement or a disagreement, each in their own style.
I will offer fair warning, that, on the one game forum/board at GiTP where I participate, there are plenty of prickly posts and there is ample eye poking going on. Are you up for that?
Forewarned is forearmed.
(And four armed is half of an octopus)
@brian333
I have seen a lot of wrong predictions on various OoTS threads that address the comic strips, so I won't add mine to this one.Last edited by KorvinStarmast; 2018-06-28 at 10:01 PM.

Wasn't there a comment from the Giant once, upon making wrong assumptions and then complaining about the comic not matching the assumptions?

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
Well I for one have gotten lots of validation at this Forum!
I've also gotten gems like:
"Posts like this make me wonder why you bother with this forum"
"That is not funny at all"
"So just fyi, your attitude is deeply offensive"
"Dude....get off your high horse".
"Could you maybe try not insulting anyone?"
"You Nazi"
"Cultural Marxist"
"Rape apologist"
"Time has moved on, so should you"
"SJW"
"Did you get hit in head during fighting recently?"
Comme ci, comme ça.
Anyway, after this strip I may have to add "curse my feathers" and "funktastic" to phrases that I use.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
Each one of us, alone, is but a drop in the sea
Our powers pale compared with the great heroes
Our battles don’t hit theheadlines or shake the earth
But they are few, can’t be everywhere, and we, many
So, when the world or universe needs saving, they come
But when people needs saving, we are the ones to appear
We're underdogs, but we rise up to the challenge to be heroes.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
I have not heard "funktastic" in conversation since the 1970s, but surely Rich is too young to remember that bygone era. I wonder if The Giant reinvented the word or if he just has a dictionary of cultural buzzwords. I'll know if Freewheelin' Franklin strolls by and says, "Keep on truckin'!"
This comic is groovy, man.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
Please don't confuse the kids!
"Keep on truckin" was Robert Crumb (Fritz the Cat, Mr. Natural), while Freewheelin' Franklin was one of Gilbert Shelton's Fabulous Fury Freak Brothers.
Those comix of my dad's were how I learned to read.
Anyway, since he's a cartoonist I'd be suprised if Mr. Burlew wasn't familiar with both.
Perfect!
My constant posting of whatever mental detritus I have has helped.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
Chill, Mikey's going to be okay.
And I am astonished by the knowledge base of this forum. I had thought Underground Comix was lost to the ages. The Roaches have not yet won this war!
Keep in mind that Mr. Burlew's comic has been live about as long as Head and Underground survived, and OotS is still a long way from over. I guess writing for a core audience with short-term memory issues is not the easy path to success.
It ought to wrap up about the time Fat Freddy scores a good lid. If he don't get ripped off again.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
so this might be a bit off topic but does anyone else think we will see Tarquin again before the story is over??
I just have a sneaking suspicion that he will return at some point for some reason
(if this is too off topic just point me to the Tarquin discussion thread if it exists becuase i couldnt find it)

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
On the one hand, Hilgya returning after over a decade suggests that anyone not confirmed dead can come back.
But I read the last panel of Tarquin as a farewell to that character on screen:
This is a terrible ending.
He's unhappy that his ending in the strip is left with him watching the real main characters -- in his head canon, he's the main character or a least the main villain -- sail off to deal with the real main villain. I think that was a way for Rick to signal to the reader that Tarquin's time in the story was ended. It was his ending, insofar as OoTS narrative goes.Last edited by KorvinStarmast; 2018-06-29 at 06:00 PM.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
On the one hand, it would be pretty brilliant if Tarquin simply disappeared from the story with that as his final appearance. On the other hand, I'd be a little disappointed if we didn't find out what Elan's plan was, and if Ian, Amun-Zora, Enor and Gannji, and whoever else pulled it off.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
I'm kind of hoping for a dignified end for Tarquin, if only because even if the arc's point was to end his story in the most unsatisfying way (for him), some kind of closure for us would be appreciated.
Besides, I doubt Elan's plan will involve his father dying.

I can say with absolute certainty that if Rich brings Tarquin back, it will not be to give him the authorial respect his forum fan club members think he was cheated of the first time.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
I don't care about Tarquin. His screaming at a departing airship that this is not a proper ending is a proper ending for him as far as I am concerned. However we have loose ends involving Laurin Shattersmith and the Snarln and the Rebellion. Those involve characters I do care about. If Taquin needs to reappear to resolve those loose ends then so be it.
Ever wondered how many games are mentioned in the comic? I have listed them all in a geeklist: https://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/2...es-order-stick

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
Aslo, #945 established that Laurin teleported Tarquin back after that whole mess, so that's already overwritten Tarquin's "ending", and I hope we get a proper ending for his arc in which he either dies or is permanently removed from power. I don't have any prediction either way on whether this will happen; it's just a hope.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
I think there will be a reference to him again, as part of wrapping up Elan's story. My guess is in conversation between Elan and Roy, with Elan wishing his dad could have been a better person and with him at his wedding, etc. Or vowing to be a better father than his own, etc.
But I think Tarquin's time is over. We're dealing with the gods now... petty kings and the like are yesterday's news.

Re: OOTS #1125 - The Discussion Thread
I expect Tarquin to show up again in a very minor capacity (for example, in a montage with several loose ends being resolved, similar to that strip during the illusion, or perhaps in a cutaway panel), but I find it equally likely that even if the story addresses what's going on with the Western resistance and Girard's rift, we might see other members of the Vector Legion, or Amun-Zora, Ian, Gannji and Enor, but Tarquin will be conspicuously absent from the panels themselves, perhaps even speaking off-panel and complaining about not being shown on-panel.
