The soldier staggers back as Marcy hits him in the face. His companion raises a weapon. "Insurgence!"

Well, now she was in trouble. No way she can stay in this town anymore!

Marcy narrowly avoids the shot, and hefts her frying pan to crack the soldier who'd shot at here over the head.

Marcy's furious attack bludgeons her foe and he falls backwards on his back.

Kerry stands up. "Oh no...they're really going to be mad at us now, Marcella! What do we do?"

Marcy looks down at the two soldiers. "...We have to leave. If we stay they'll catch us for sure, and I wouldn't put it past them to pin the blame for all this on everybody else in Cheshire if we get caught."

[NeoSeraphi]

Kerry nods and stands up. "...Okay. Then, let me help!"

She chants a few words under her breath and spreads her arms, and then she disappears from sight. After a moment, Marcy feels a touch and the same thing happens to her. She can't see Kerry now, but no one can see her either.

Marcy feels around for Kerry's hand. "Alright, let's go. We'll head for the capital, hopefully we can make it there before the Milantine forces can."

"The capital? But...we don't have any supplies, or weapons, or food..."

Kerry reaches around for a moment and disarms the two soldiers.

Marcy feels a gun pushed into her hands.

Marcy is given a pistol. She is not proficient with it. The pistol has six rounds left in the chamber.

Marcy sticks the pistol into her pocket, and holds onto the frying pan as she heads out with Kerry. "We'll just have to pick up food and supplies along the way."

The two of them start to make their way towards the eastern end of town. As they sneak past the imperial troops, they see women being held up and forced to part with their hard-grown crops and freshly collected water. It seems like Vali intends to drain this place of all its resources in order to keep her men well-fed and cared for.

She even sees two soldiers moving some furniture into her home. It looks like they'll be squatting there for a while. That nixes any ideas she might have had of returning to fetch her things.

Kerry bites her lip as the two of them reach the edge of town.

"That's all...I could do," she whispers.

The spell dissipates. The two of them appear right in the middle of everyone, and Vali drops her jaw.

"Oh, you two! Now I'm pissed!"

It's a fight!

I'll even pardon your stupid friend for shooting a man in cold blood if you stand down."

She sweeps Marcy's leg.

Marcy avoids the sweep. "You expect me to believe that you'll pardon us?" She takes another swing with the frying pan.

The half-orc collapses under Marcy's attacks.

Kerry doesn't waste any time. She rushes forward and drags Marcy with her. The two of them run out onto the road.


They run and they run until they run out of breath. After that, they start to walk. Marcy keeps them close enough to the road that they know where they're going, but far enough off of it that they can avoid being seen. More soldiers pass by them, heading towards their quiet little hamlet. What is going to happen to Anoira?

The two of them finally make camp after a while, with little provisions to keep them safe.

Figuring that staying hidden is more important than staying fed at the moment, Marcy looks around for a place that they can sleep in without getting found.

It appears to be a man in battle fatigues. He's missing an eye and carrying a rifle with him.

Marcy starts to tense up, before she realizes there's a glint of blue on the ground. That's...that's an Anoira flag packed in with his other things.

So, did he steal that flag from someone he killed? Or...is he an Anoira soldier?

Marcy lowers her makeshift weapon as she approaches the man, making sure to keep a safe distance. "Hey, there."

[NeoSeraphi]

The man jolts up, but as he sees her fairer skin, he relaxes. "Oh. An Anoiran."

He lowers his weapon and sets it down next to him. "You look like you've been through hell. Do you want a potion?"

He reaches into his bag and pulls out a healing serum.

[Diachronos]

Marcy shakes her head. "No, I'm fine. But thanks." She looks down at the flag. "Are you hiding from the Milantis army too?"

The man frowns. "Oh...Yeah. I came back here to deliver word of Anoira's defeat to Captain Marshal's wife, but when I got close I saw the empire had already managed to move into the town. Seems like I wasn't fast enough."

It probably is pretty hard to move at normal speed when you only have one eye.

[Diachronos]

"Yeah... my friend and I got a front-row view of them moving in. It's hard enough being robbed of our food and homes, but they had the nerve to set Captain Marshal's home on fire with his daughter still inside!"
