Kerry looks at the man and then lowers her gaze. "I wonder if he left behind a family as well?" she asks, sounding like she might cry.

Marcy hadn't thought of that. The man might be married, or have kids for all she knows.

Marcy sits up and hugs Kerry. "Hey... everything's going to turn out okay. I promise."

The two girls go to sleep.

In the morning, Marcy awakens to find the soldier tearing his shirt into pieces to form a tourniquet. Two Milantine soldiers lay unconscious in the clearing, and the Anoiran soldier has several bullet holes in his flank.

Marcy jumps up to help him with his wounds. "Are you alright?!"

[NeoSeraphi]

The man frowns. "I'm...fine." He winces as he tries to push one spot together, and Marcy can see the bullet is still inside.

If Marcy wants to take over here, she can make a Heal check. But if she misses the DC by more than 5, she inflicts more damage by botching her care.

Marcy considers helping him out, but she knows next to nothing about medicine or treating injuries. Fearing that she'll just make things worse, she settles for helping him hold the dressing in place while he secures it. "We've got to get you to a healer or a doctor, and quickly."

"What? Why do you care? You don't even know me," the man protests.

[Diachronos]

"You're right, I don't. But I'm not the sort to just ignore a fellow Anoiran in need."

[NeoSeraphi]

The man hesitates, and then nods after a moment.

"There may be a healer in the next town."

[Diachronos]

Marcy nods. "...I'm Marcy. My friend over there is Kerry."

[NeoSeraphi]

The man straightens up. "I'm Grayson Fullbuster. I live in Stonebrook, about three days towards the capital from here."

[Diachronos]

"Nice to meet you, Grayson." She holds out her hand.

[NeoSeraphi]

Grayson shakes her hand and the two of them set out on the road.

Between his missing eye and his severe injuries, Grayson likely can't fight anymore. Marcy will have to protect her group on her own.

[Diachronos]

Marcy takes a minute to salvage what she can from the soldiers (assuming Grayson hasn't already done so), and sets out with them. She keeps an eye out for some sturdy branches that Grayson could possibly use to help support his weight as they walk.

Marcy finds a pouch containing 6 silver and 2 copper, as well as a masterwork breastplate and a couple of pistols. Unless she wants to dual wield, the pistols don't mean much, but each of them has another six shots in the chamber, giving her more ammunition.

Kerry does her best to keep Grayson on his feet as the group moves forward. However, it isn't long before Marcy spots trouble. Another pair of imperial soldiers on horseback, leading some kind of caravan.

Marcy puts on the breastplate.

"Dammit... Come on, let's get off the road." As they move off the road, she takes a closer look to see if they might be able to handle the caravan's guardsd.

The group does their best to hide.

Marcy sees two soldiers and what looks like a few aristocrats. There may be something worth stealing from these people if she chances a fight.

[Diachronos]

She frowns and turns to Kerry and Grayson. "What do you think? Do either of you recognize their emblems?"

[NeoSeraphi]

Kerry looks confused, but Grayson nods. "That is Prince Taylor and his mother, the Queen Regent of Anoira. I wonder why they are inside of an imperial vanguard?"

[Diachronos]

"Wait, are you telling me that that tiny caravan, with only two guards, is escorting the Queen and Prince of our homeland?" Something doesn't add up about this... "I'm going out there, maybe they can tell us what's going on."

[NeoSeraphi]

The two soldiers raise their blades as Marcy approaches. "Halt! You will not take another step!"

Marcy holds up her hands to show she doesn't mean them any harm. "This area is dangerous, I merely wanted to warn the Queen Regent and the Prince."

The woman narrows her eyes. "These two are our prisoners. They will remain in my custody until their execution date. Now get out of my sight. I do not wish to stain my sword with the blood of some civilian."

[Diachronos]

Marcy narrows her eyes as well, and grabs her halberd to attack.
