I had never realizes here (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0688.html) that Scruffy senses the worm before anyone else. He starts to get distance in panel 6 and when the worm comes up, he is the farthest from it.

EDIT: also, in the next comic, he is hissing for being put on the worm. So cool!!!

I just noticed Vampire Durkon trying to use the domination gaze on Durkon. As always, I'm not a D&D player, but this just seems... mechanically wonky.

The evil adventuring party in Celestia felt that way for me too. (Thanks for the lampshade, Roy. )

I'm of the opinion that Durkula was less using his gaze attack and more being positively serious in that part.

That on the other hand is honestly more for the lulz, especially the part where they just so happen to Plane Shift right in the middle of a room with not only one but two deceased mid~high-level fighters and an ancestral greatsword.

I think it just means "uses vampire power to forcefully extract the memory" rather than the Domination gaze in particular. The implication being that Durkon's soul would be in pain until he complies.

The evil adventuring party is a joke playing on how good adventuring parties will go on quests that take them to lower planes to fight demons and the like.

If the Mechane can blow Elan's spell because of how quickly it turned while it was handling real sluggish, I shudder to think how well that thing runs under ideal conditions.

I took me a while to put this one together, and even then I got distracted from posting it until it was sorta past relevance to the current comic's discussion but.....

We get a silly joke about Elan misunderstanding what's meant by "positive energy" and thus trying to defeat the vampires with good feelings, camaraderie, support, caring, and such. And then what does Durkon end up using to defeat his vampiric self?

Probably game mechanics in play. They are going to plane shift to an encounter that would provide them with a challenge, otherwise it would be boring, wouldn't it? ;)

Perhaps trying to make it move while handling sluggish results in the ship moving jerkily, while under ideal conditions it would move smoothly? It's not speed that makes Elan "lose" the spell, but rather a sudden violent change, I think.

Also, I realised something I thought was both quite obvious (because I'm slow) but also really good this morning and then forgot what it was by the time I got home...

It looks like the ship only has trouble turning starboard. All the turns it's doing quickly are heading to port.

Hah, and I just remembered that that first strip is a callback to the last time Vaarsuvius was in a battle with lack of Sonic preparedness.

In the strip that kickstarted it all, Elan's hair in the 4th panel is briefly dampened by the rain. By the next panel it's poking out again.

Also, Belkar in 4th panel puts up his hood, but next strip he has it off.

It looks like there is another level up the ladder he was climbing. He probably was just going from A to B. Should invest in good old fashioned stone stairs, if you ask me.

Just occurred to me that V's tactical suggestion about Miron in this strip, http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0928.html , might have derived from what V learned from Sabine. I had always gone with the idea that it was about Laurin due to the flashback panel in the Laurin fight later on (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0935.html), but there's no reason to think it was limited like that, and quite a few more reasons to believe it was party-wide intelligence that V was given (in that Sabine also mentioned the ring of true seeing that Tarquin had). Literally just occurred to me out of the blue for no known reason as I wasn't even re-reading those strips.

It's also foreshadowed there that she never let go.
Each one of us, alone, is but a drop in the sea
Our powers pale compared with the great heroes
Our battles don’t hit theheadlines or shake the earth
But they are few, can’t be everywhere, and we, many

Judging by the rocks crumbliness, it'd make for a poor staircase.

That and dwarves can't use their stonecunning score to assist with ladder placement. Guessing that's a climb check, or something.

Absent a message from the Giant, I prefer to think it's a reference to the last emperor of Rome, Tarquinius Superbus (who, admittedly, I had never heard of before joining this forum).

Edit: Nice to notice that I hadn't heard of Tarquinius, in opposition to Elan's Dad's goal.

Tarquin is named after the king of Rome. It's a different name altogether, there's nothing to debate about.
