Burning bread is the absolute worst. It's like losing five hours of work in one batch. plus that smell is rancid and it carries far and lasts forever. Everyone knows you've burnt your bread. and there's noting you can do is put more dough in the proofer and hope you can get a decent rise as fast as possible.

I think the intention was that Brun and Clinton have each dealt with their own hardships, not that one definitely had it easier than the other.

Clinton and Brun are playing - without intent and wholly by accident - the oppression olympics, a sort of reverse one-up-man-ship. It's not a good framework for actually addressing any issues.

If anything, they're downplaying how difficult those hardships have made their lives, in deliberate avoidance of 'oppression olympics'. It's a very polite conversation.

It is interesting to see Brun open up a little bit. I'm not sure how much of it really informs her character, but she certainly comes off as pretty resilient.

I think the implication is that they're "competing" in each other's favor.

Side note, I wonder if the author's of that wiki link realize the "criticism" section is supposed to be for critiquing and presenting criticisms of the idea presented, and not the subjects of said idea.

Man, they're just having a frank discussion of their pasts. They're specifically trying NOT to one-up each other or minimize what the other's gone through. There's no oppression Olympics, no greivance politics, no fetishization of victimhood. Just two people opening up to each other and being respectful of each other's struggles.

@Fawkes; Max_Killjoy: Fawkes is right in that the characters aren't really trying to one-up each other (they could be in certain ways, with false declarations of casualness and "it's all right," except that Brun isn't subtle enough to do that), but Max_Killjoy is right in that the comic, particularly in the raisin strip, is absolutely trying to do that.

This might be a conversation to better have with Claire, rather than Faye. Faye isn't particularly feminine and has always taken a very practical approach to her style, so maybe someone more fashion conscious would be able to offer better suggestions?

....I do kinda hope that she asks Dora and gets goth'd up too, if only to see the look on Faye's face afterwards.

Apologies, "feminine" is entirely the wrong word to have used in that context; I meant someone who *is* more interested in ladies' fashions than Faye has ever been. Another synonym for "fashion conscious" would probably have been more appropriate, but at the time I was specifically thinking of the difference between Claire and Faye's attitudes.

No apologies necessary. Claire clearly cares more about such things. She might, however, very successfully achieve a goal that Bubbles isn't aiming for. We shall see. Either way, I expect the storyline to be pretty hilarious.

Through I will have to say, I don't think it is unfair to say that Faye is dressing in a masculine/androgynous style, because sometimes she is. I was greatly under the impression that she was doing it because: 1) It's likely to be cotton, which means it's not going to melt her skin off should something happen and 2) because sometimes the 'boyish' cuts show off the badonkadonks, which was the implication I was getting from Bubble's reaction.

Androgynous styles come in and out in the fashion world, and I think they're making a comeback with the 80's revival. That, and I think Claire might be the most stereotypically feminine lady in the strip thus far, possibly excluding her own mother.

Sorry if I was confusing, I was trying to indicate that I agreed with you. Bubbles probably would have slapped on a clown nose and a bondage harness if she thought that what was Faye wanted, regardless of it being so 2016.
