Ariadne shakes herself as she snaps out of the enthrallment. Quickly assessing the situation, she calls out, "Man the scorpions and grab some of the smaller fishing nets! We'll drag her beneath the waves if we can to silence her voice! You three, into the water to help the enthralled, start with any that are starting to drown! Everyone else, grab a crossbow and aim true!"

Ariadne snaps off a shot of her own with a crossbow, since the creature was still a little far off for her pistol. When it comes closer, she makes a sign of ill fortune, willing it to drag on her foe.

Once it is within 30', making use of Misfortune Hex. DC 17 Will save. On a failure the subject must roll EVERY attack, save, skill, or ability check twice, and take the worse result. It only lasts for 1 round, unless extended via Cackle.
The next round, using a move action to extend misfortune via Cackle (assuming it lands), and then using standard action to cast Glitterdust for a DC 17 Will save vs blindness for 4 rounds.

Meanwhile, she'll be trying to direct a few crewmen to ready a net to try and drag the thing out of the sky and into the water. A thrown net is an exotic weapon, so no one's proficient, but its also considered a touch attack, so that is somewhat balanced out and there is a chance. If there's a success, she's probably the best swimmer on board (at least while bodaku isn't a fish), so she'll dive in right away to help drag the thing underwater and keep her from singing.

The officer piloting the ship yells out "Hold on! Going to turn hard to slow us and circle back for those overboard. Anyone able to act get to the sails and drop them, we need to slow down!" as he starts spinning the wheel. The ship banks heavily as it beings to turn but stays in control. Several of the crew still on board and in control of their own actions start running to the halyard and start lowering the sails.
Olivia gets to the closest crossbow and fires sending a bolt into and through the harpy's wing. But her pistol doesn't connect.
Ariadne gets to the second crossbow and takes her shot but it sails wide landing harmlessly in the ocean.
As the harpy passes by those enthralled by her turn to follow, the rough ocean from the ship's wake is hard to swim in though and Gerran and several of the crew are having trouble staying above water.
The harpy's song fades away as she rushes the ship and attacks. She just reaches the ship and swings it's morningstar at Olivia, making a solid connection and delivering a telling blow on her.

As the song ends Bodaku wakes up, as if from a strange, uncomfortable dream. Like the one where you show up to work naked. "Huh!" he cries with a start although it comes out as SQUAWK from his bird beak. Shaking his head, he takes stock of the situation. His party is under attack by a weird enchantress thing and soon to be drowning friends. Situation normal; all ****ed up. Time to go to work. CACAAW he cries to Shaddup. "Dinner is served." The bird calls back signalling his affirmative. Shaddup takes point, talons outstretched, with Bodaku coming in close behind. Shaddup attempts to latch on to the winged warrior first, followed by Bodaku.

First of all, let me apologize for grappling in pbp games. Rules wise it's a mess even in real world so I hope it doesn't slow combat down too much. First both Shaddup and I will be grappling. This provokes an attack of opportunity. I sent Shaddup in first on the assumption that this thing doesn't get multiple AOO's so that he would draw the attack, although AOO's can be assigned to anyone so DM's discretion. So here are the rolls.
    Shaddup(1d20+5)[16]
    Bodaku(1d20+4)[18]
If the AOO hits, deduct the damage from whoever is grappling. If I'm reading the rules correctly, there is +2 bonus for each creature making the grapple. Let me know if there is anything else that needs to happen. Adrienne, this not my strong suit so it would be REALLY convenient if you could keep that hex up.

Sure thing if it fails the save. If it passes though its immune to further attempts. On a failure I can keep it running indefinitely so long as I can spare move actions to extend the thing, and its really useful to keep up, so I had planned on doing that.

The ship is slowing down quickly but still moving and the pilot is still turning back towards those overboard. With the sails raised the two sets of crew on board make it to edge of the ship and start throwing ropes down.
Azaro charges across the deck swinging his giant anchor at the harpy but the crossbow and the rail get in the way and he isn't able to land the blow.
The magic emanating from Ariadne strikes out and seems to seep into it.
Olivia swings her sword and shoots a pistol at the harpy but neither find their mark
Following Bodaku's command Shaddup flies into the harpy, the harpy swings at the bird but misses. Shaddup isn't able to get a grip on the creature.*

The crew in the ocean all seem to be keeping above water and start swimming back towards the boat as the harpy passed overhead.
The ship drifts away from the harpy, and it takes the break as an opportunity to redirect to the witch, as it sensed the dread coming from her. It swoops forward swinging the Morningstar at her.

Azaro advances to the rail and again swings the anchor in a big arc, thinking for sure he was going to hit but the harpy manages to drop just enough as the swing comes in to dodge the shot at the last possible second.
But the distraction is enough that it doesn't react as quickly and Olivia lands a shot with her gun and follows it up with a slice from her sword.
Ariadne says a few arcane words and a flash of gold shots from her hands and explodes in the air behind the ship, covering the harpy in a fine gold powder that shines in the creatures feathers, but somehow it seemed to avoid the worst of the dust.
Bodaku and Shaddup both fly in squawking loudly and clawing at the harpy but not able to connect.

Gerran swims to the edge of the boat and deftly climbs the side with surprising speed, making it up the side, over the rail and onto the deck. The crew in the water are not quite so skilled, with about two thirds of them managing to swim to the base of the ship and grab a rope but hardly making it out of the water. The remaining third get pushed back from the ship by waves, not really able to make any progress.
The crew already on the ship toss out a few nets but aren't able to snap the harpy, others aim their crossbows and send bolts flying towards the harpy, many miss but a couple hit and stick into the creature's wings.

The harpy lets out a shriek and swings at Olivia with a furry of blows from her morningstar and claws. The morningstar lands solid blow but the claws don't manage to make it past her armor.
The harpy is looking pretty ragged and bloody at this point.

Olivia backs out of the immediate fight and downs one of her potions.
Gerran's shot is true and his arrow lands home in the harpy's leg. Then Ariadne says some more arcane words and the harpy grabs it's head in pain then falls unconscious into the ocean, partially hitting some of the crew climbing up the ropes but not hurting anyone. A few of the crew in the water makes sure the creature is dead then ties a rope to hit so it can be pulled onto the ship.

Checking over the creature you don't find any armor and the weapon seems pretty basic. It has some necklaces and bracelets around it's arms and feet, it looks like a combination of real jewelry and random shiny things it has collected and woven into trinkets that it can wear.

Once everyone is pulled from the sea and accounted for you start to take off again, but as you get closer to the shore in the process of turning back onto your previous course you see something that looks odd in the water. Moving a bit closer you start to make out the parts of at least a few ships just sticking out of the water. It looks like they've hit the rocks and sank.

Ariadne looks down at the fallen harpy with a strange expression, then turns to help get the crew back on board while Olivia manages the steering for the moment. She spends some time healing injuries among the sailors, and pointing anyone with more than simple scrapes and cuts towards Azaro.

When everything is settled, she fingers through the jewelry taken off of the bird woman with a thoughtful expression before calling the officers together. "I would be willing to bet there's a lot more of this collected at whatever nest this foul creature came from. It could very well be worth attempting to find it. In case there are more of them, we could fashion earplugs for everyone so that the singing is no longer an issue. What do you think, worth the risk?"

"Wise words," says Bodaku once he lands. He examines the bird thing. "Well, there's good meat on those wings and those legs. I got a cache of spicy sauce I think they'll be good fried in." He sends one of the deck hands to go get the cleaver and then turns to the rocky shore. "We did agree to do our partners trading for them. Although given our client, I feel no hurry."

OOC: I'm down to go check out this island if that's what the group wants.

"A half day spent poking around won't hurt anything. Nothing about the contract indicated a deadline or that it was otherwise time sensitive."

"We could also mark this location off to investigate on the return trip and move on for now. That would give the crew a chance to recover and train further. But it does increase the odds of any treasure being removed before we get to it."

Olivia scans the water line very closely but doesn't see any submerged rocks far enough out to pose a threat to any ship in normal travel lanes and there is nothing about the shoreline to imply someone would mistake it as a passage or port. There seems to be a few smaller boats along a bit of the shore, some have clearly been there a while, half waterlogged and broken into pieces. The most prominent ship in the jumble is bigger than your current ship, it is listing quite heavily and a large part of it is out of the water, it looks like it probably had to have ended up there during high tide and the current tide is lower.
From what you can tell from a distance that ship doesn't look like it like it is newly wrecked but also doesn't look like it has been there for years either. The masts seem to still be intact but there is only a few tatters of sails left and there are few ropes left hanging from the riggings. You catch a slight scent of decay when the breeze shifts from the ship.
You don't see anything alive moving on the ship. It is early evening, and the light is starting to fade but you still have some time before dusk really sets in.

Judging by what you can see in the water it would be risky, but maybe possible to get your ship up to the aft of the wrecked ship. Taking the jollyboat would be a much safer option to get close but it would probably be about a 10 foot climb to get from the boat onto the deck of the ship, you can't tell from where you are if it would be possible to enter from the hole in the front of the ship.

well captain from the looks of it and the time of day it might be safer to anchor here for the night away from the wreck, then in full daylight take a few men over in the jolly boat along with some hooks and rope and board that ship over there for a look, see if it is at all close to salvageable. If enough repairs could be made to at least make it sea worthy enough for a tow, we could tow her into the next port and have a proper repair job looked into.

Ariadne jerks a thumb back over her shoulder, "Nearest port with a proper drydock to do much with a near wreck like that is back the way we came. How about we take a look at it while poking around for more portable salvage. If we decide its worth the effort we can make another stop on the way back. Depending on the damage we may need to pick up a few extra parts to get her seaworthy anyways."

certainly could do that. If we want to leave her here though, we should try to anchor her to the spot lest she float away. At worst she sinks here

Azaro slumps back down after the magic wanes. He has been held a fool by a typical sea creature. There was no spying familiar. No other ship, just a predator of the sea. He was out of spells for the days because he overreacted.

People were nearly drowning because he didn't do his job, because he had the wrong foresight. Azaro was sure his magic could've shielded some of the minds of his fellow adventurers.

There are usually no cliffs in the middle of the ocean to crash us on. The creature wanted to drown a few men, pick their corpses up and feed on them. Speaking of that... Azaro snaps with his fingers, incanting a simple spell to discover magical auras. You do not have any protections against the arcane, do you?

The half-orc strips his armor and shows his tattoos underneath. Those in the know see tribal tattoos mixed with years of piracy. Then he points to his vest

These tattoos protect me, but after a thing like that I reckon you need something to protect you too. I don't always have the blessings of Besmara on my side.

Gerran's fur was uncomfortably...damp. He HATED wet fur. It smelled awful. With a growl, he walked over and kicked the corpse of the bird-woman solidly, sliding it a little across the deck.

Immediately, he was ashamed. This is not what his master taught him. To be so easily manipulated by first this...thing, and then his own anger. He took several deep breaths, calming himself.

He looked over to where the captain, the four-armed woman(Olivia?), Azaro and Bodaku were conversing about possibly salvaging wrecks. Azaro stripped ff his vest and suggested that the crew...adopt tattoos as magical protection? He thought the suggestion worth merit for the rest of the crew, but he wasn't shaving any part of his fur for one of those human skin pictures.

Gerran approached the small group and bowed slightly to the cap...Ariadne. "Captain, I would be happy, as bosun, to lead a scouting party of our most...dexterous crew to determine the best salvage on yonder wreck." He left out that he wished to do so to make up for the shame of falling for the charms of...that bird.
