Yuri keeps her attention on the thugs' leader as Dain volunteers to go get the guard, and Macil goes to investigate the warehouse. She doesn't say anything to the man, instead choosing to study his appearance and contemplate to herself why someone would choose a life of villainy as he did.

Where Dain and the guards are, they both frown. The one who called out to Dain asks "Can you show me where they are? And is there any danger?"

With Dain's assurance that the situation is under control, the two talk amongst themselves for a few moments, and then the guard talks again, saying "Alright. I'll go with you to make sure everything's okay-he's gonna go get a squad to get the situation locked down properly." With that, Dain leads the guard back to the warehouse.

You manage to find (5d30)[85] silver pieces, (3d6)[10] gold pieces, and (1d3)[3] platinum.

There's various thuggish weapons about, but nothing of particularly high quality.

Dain arrives at the warehouse, a guardsman in tow. He looks at the tied-up people, and frowns. "I'd like to trust you, sir, but I'm afraid that, given the situation as I see it... I'm going to have to ask you all to stay here with me and answer questions to an Investigator once one arrives. Like I said, I'd love to trust that this is just a group of people being good citizens and stopping criminals... But you understand that all I've seen is a few tied up people, don't you?"

Yuri eyes the guardsman as Dain returns with him. Only one?

"I take it there are more of you on the way, then? I don't mind waiting, but will they be long?" The adrenaline is starting to thin for her, and she could use a seat. She'll stay vigilant until the rest of the guards arrive, but she's starting to look a bit tired.

"Your weariness is understandable, child." Aidan say, still in his vestment and holding his censer. "However, this poor soul has already confessed all of his sins, and although his mind is a little fractured, I am sure he will accept his penance." He turns towards the man, making sure that guard can't see his face, and makes his eyes flash green as a warning to the thug.

"They're on their way, but it seemed urgent enough that having at least ONE guard was better than none," the guard replies.

As you while the time away, the other prisoners begin to wake up. They stay mostly silent, aprat from a little shifting and grunting as they try to get as comfortable as possible-close inspection shows they might be trying to get free, but a stern warning shuts that down.

After some fifteen minutes, a squad of five guards arrives, three men and two women, along with an Investigator, clad in black leather. The Investigator surveys the area. "Put all the prisoners in the center, and then stand near them. I will be casting a spell-known as Zone of Truth-you will feel a pressure on your mind when it is cast. Let this settle in-it will prevent you from lying while in its effects. While you are not under any compulsion to answer the questions, refusal to answer certain questions may be... Detrimental, to your well-being."

Yuri just nods at the guard's explanation and waits quietly until the rest of the squad and the Investigator arrive. Once the Investigator explains, she nods and looks to the others.

"Fine with me. The sooner this is sorted out, the better. You might want to ask this one what exactly he was trying to summon," she says, nudging the thugs' boss with the toe of her shoe, before indicating the summoning circle. She already knows what his answer was, but it might not hurt for the Inquisitor to ask it under the spell; they might get a more detailed answer. After she's made her comment, she'll help whoever's dragging the captured thugs to the indicated area, before standing where indicated. She's not entirely keen on having yet another mind-affecting spell cast on her given what happened in the fight, but at this point, she really needs a drink and a bed, and it seems the fastest way get to both to her.

BAH! Mind magic is the thanks I get fer alerting the guard?! Dain thinks to himself. Still, he settles that it’s not worth the trouble to convince the guards otherwise, they did go out looking for trouble after all.

”Bah, fine then! Though you’ll want to take a seat when you ask this one to list off his crimes.” Dain says while indicating the leader of the ruffian group.

Once everyone is in the center, the Investigator does a short incantation. You feel, exactly as he said you would, a pressure on your mind. But, allowing it in, it actually seems to straighten your thoughts a little. Nothing major-but certainly not the cloying, grasping, gnawing feeling you got from the brute's spell.

The Investigator, once sure the spell is settled in, turns to face you all. "I will start with you-if you've been honest, this will be easy and you can be on your way. Have you, at any point, lied to the guards today?"

You answer no.

"Have the events, as Dain described to the guard, happened as he indicated?"

You answer yes.

"Is there anything you feel we should know about the current situation that has not been addressed?"

Aidan remains completely silent, uncomfortable by all the truth going on around him.

"Is there anything you feel we should know about the current situation that has not been addressed?"

Dain feels the magic weigh on his mind, but lets it in to allow the investigator to do his job. Not knowing exactly how this spell works, Dain keeps his mouth mostly shut and sticks to short answers, although he does feel the magic pushing him away from deceit. However, Dain eventually can’t help himself and answers the last question by replying:

”I think we deserve some compensation for doing your jobs and cleaning up this rat hole...(long pause)...ah, sorry, truth magic and all.”

The Investigator nods. "Sergeant McColloughy-I have the situation sufficiently under control. These folk have been nothing but truthful and helpful, so I see no need for further questioning of them under the Zone. Take them to the governor's residence, and see to it they are compensated for their services."

"Yes sir," the sergeant responds. He's a short, stout man, who has a large greathammer strapped to his back. "Come on, you guys. And thank you."

Yuri stays quiet for the interrogation aside from answering the basic inquiries about Dain's story being true and having not lied to the guards. When the question comes up about anything else that needs to be addressed, she shakes her head. Dain's assertion that they should be paid gets a raised eyebrow from her, but she nods at him. She perks up a bit when they're told to go see the governor and given an escort. Perhaps she can check on Kelrug while they're there.

She falls in with the Sergeant, and nods at him.

"You're welcome. I do hope we're not going to be disturbing the governor too much, though."

"You might not be seeing him. He's been cooped up in his quarters and office, talking to that old gnome. Kelrug, I think the name was," the sergeant says. "Something's going down-but I don't know what."

Yuri eyes the others and wonders to herself whether it's prudent to say anything. She doesn't want to panic people, after all. They just got here! Then again, though, it might let them see Kelrug and the governor. She might be able to assure Adelaide, as well.

"We know a bit about that, seeing as how we were the ones who discovered the problem and all. I was hoping to get a chance to talk to Kelrug a bit more about it. There's been...developments, but I'm not sure it's wise to discuss it in public."

"Aye, I can understand that. But, if you do know more..." the sergeant says, "Just... Can you let me know if I need to get my family to move somewhere? I'll stay in this city till the end, but I swore an oath to protect it. They didn't."

Dain considers the man's plea for information. As much as Dain wants to help this man keep his family safe, they need more information. He quickly devised a plan where the party can aid the sergeant in return for his cooperation.

Dain's face turns grim but with an air of determination. "Sergeant, as apprised we are of the situation, we still only have an incomplete picture of the happenings in the region. I cannot rightly tell you if your family is in danger at this time. However, if you could secure us an audience with the governor, we would do our best to determine the immediate threat to Indos, and your family. You have my word."

The sergeant nods. "I'll do what I can-no promises, though."

It grows quiet for a little as you continue walking, though the sergeant then starts talking about his family. He seems excited for his youngest, named Avery, to be apprenticed to a blacksmith.

Before the sergeant runs out of things to talk about, you arrive at the governor's residence, and he says "Wait here," as he goes inside. A significant amount of time passes, perhaps fifteen minutes, before he comes back out. "The governor will see you now-up the stairs, door is right in front. I'll wait out here, for if you need an escort anywhere."

Yuri nods at Dain's assessment and listens intently as the sergeant goes on about his son. It makes her nostalgic for the life she might have had if not for the goblins coming to her village that fateful day, but she pushes it out of mind as they reach the governor's residence. When he returns to them, she'll smile and pat him on the arm.

"Thank you, Sergeant. You're a good man, and I hope we'll have good news for you and your family when we're finished." With that, she heads inside.

Up the stairs, there's a sturdy oak door, firmly shut. You can faintly hear voices from the inside.

Dain considers the time before lightly rapping on the door in front of them. He straitens up and tidies up his beard a bit before the knock is answered. They were about to meet the governor, a man of real position, and he wanted to be presentable.

"I still think that you're overreacting-" a voice you haven't heard before says.

"Send men to investigate, then! Prove me wrong-PLEASE!" you hear Kelrug say.

Dain raps on the door, and the conversation stops. The door opens, and you see a tall, almost gangly man. He's well-dressed, though, and has an air of importance to him. "Good day-I hear you handled some street toughs?" the man says. "I am the governor of this wonderful town. Please, come in," he continues, gesturing to a few empty chairs that have been pushed against the wall.

As you enter, you also see Kelrug, who has bags under his eyes. "Can't avoid trouble, can you guys?" he says with a chuckle. "Just have to be the heroes."

Yuri nods and bows politely as the governor introduces himself and they come into the office. She takes a seat and smiles at Kelrug.

"I guess it's just in our nature," she says with a sheepish smile. Then her tone grows a bit more serious. "But, one of them was trying to summon something nasty. It's a good thing he didn't know what he was doing, but I wouldn't classify him as just an ordinary street tough. Nasty piece of work."

She pauses for a moment, then goes on.

"I also have some news on the issue you and the governor have been discussing, Kelrug." She looks to the governor. "What would you like to hear more about first, sir?"

"I've heard quite enough about the orcs for the time being-tell me about this gang you fought," he says.

Kelrug opens his mouth to retort, but the governor raises a hand to quiet him. "It's been several days. If the threat was THAT urgent, we'd have it upon us already. It can wait another fifteen minutes."

[The Big Bear]

Dain bows low, his armor clinking and squeaking as he bends. ”Dain Darkbrew; dwarven smithy, heavy infantry, entertainer, and, now, street cleaner, at your service, governor..?” he says, having not caught the man’s name.

“Bwahaha!! You know us, Kel, can’t resist cleaning the streets when we happen to step in scum.” Dain says to Kelrug as he walks over and takes a seat.

"Governor Fett," he replies. "John Fett."

"Oh, I'm sorry, I got a bit ahead of myself. I'm Yuri Mysolaes," Yuri says, bowing again, before taking a seat next to Dain. She looks to Macil and Aidan. "Perhaps you'd like to start from the beginning, then, Macil?"

"Father Aidan Shadowmist." Aidan says with a respectful head tilt. "It is a pleasure to meet you Governor."

"A pleasure to meet you all as well," Governor Fett replies.

Dain looks around the room after taking his seat. Eventually his gaze falls upon Governor Fett’s liquor cabinet. Given what Yuri knew from her time with the hobgoblins and that Macil and Aidan could provide more information on the ruffians, Dain concludes that this could take a while.

Dain stands up to move over to the liquor cabinet, saying to the governor on the way ”Well met, governor Fett.” Upon realizing the rhyme after the fact Dain lets out a “Bwahaha!!” before asking Fett “This could take a while. Mind if I help myself?”
