According to google I may have just referenced an entire order of cooking I never knew existed.

New England is the best state!

Regardless of the fact that it is several states, and not just one.

Anyway, Texans claim to be the biggest and best state, and so do Californians. Then of course you've got your New Yorkers... ugh.

But nobody pays attention to New Englanders. Never mind the fact that we control the majority of all Ivy League colleges (also MIT, widely known to be the best technology school in the world), have (aside from California and Colorado) the widest variety of landscape, and have the toughest citizens (oh, really, Texas? When was the last time you shoveled three feet of soaking wet, icy, slushy, dirty snow off of your driveway? By hand. In 15 degree weather.) And for some reason, nobody seems to take New England seriously.

Also our version of clam chowder kicks Manhattan's varieties' ass so hard that it isn't even funny.

    Fight me.

What I enjoy the most in terms of state vs. state rivalries is listening to Alaskans talk smack about Texas and how tiny it is. My dad still occasionally references Alaska as part of poking fun at Texas, and he moved back to the lower 48 in the '80s...

Well, that and listening to the inland WA people calling the people in Seattle the "wetsiders". While Oregon and Washington folks will occasionally make fun of each other, the Cascades are probably the more meaningful cultural boundary around here.

Honestly Eastern Oregon would be happier as part of Idaho, I don't know as much about eastern Washington but I imagine it is the same.

The only reason eastern Washington would want to remain out of Idaho is because Washington does not currently have an income tax, while Idaho does. Then again, northern Idaho would be plenty happy to split from southern Idaho. People in the area occasionally float the idea of a state comprised of northern Idaho and the eastern regions of Oregon and Washington. I think the proposed state would have about twice the population of Wyoming.

Roughly a fifth the population of a real state then, got it.

As long as we're talking territory exchange though, anyone willing to take Colorado Springs on as an exclave? You get to be a beautiful mountain state with gorgeous terrain (through a technicality), and we get rid of Colorado Springs (through a technicality).
I would really like to see a game made by Obryn, Kurald Galain, and Knaight from these forums.

So you don't consider any state with less population than either Colorado a real state? I suspect that Peelee would like to have words with you about that.

Normally yes, but Colorado's cool. Seriously, though, more than half the states wouldn't be real. Those danged 16 percenters!

I was mostly noting that Alabama has fewer people than Colorado, so he was implying that the better Birmingham was not in a real state.

Speaking of, I'm trying to figure out how Colorado ended up with so many people. It has similar climate to Wyoming which ended up with the population density of open ocean.

I'm of the opinion that Birmingham and Huntsville should form their own state. It's be nice. Full of civilization. I dunno, maybe take some of the nice scenic areas with us.

Also, Colorado's got a lot of silver, I hear.

Let's not go down that road again. If you insist, however, I will add further contenders for the title of "best Birmingham". I think the next one to add will be the lunar crater.

Alternatively, while the popular definition of "state" is a sub-national division used in the US and Mexican republics, traditionally, it referred to a sovereign and independent nation, in which case the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland might qualify.

Your sales pitch fell a bit flat there.

In truth, I've only really ever passed through Saskatchewan. Stayed one night in the summer (and got to very much experience the Living Skies), and that's about it. I was just mostly curious, in truth, to see if there were any Canadian Birminghams. The fact that there's basically nothing there just makes it funnier to me.

I don't think it's fair to make comparisons to an inhospitable environment 400,000 km from human civilisation with no edible flora or fauna. And we probably shouldn't compare places to the moon, either.

True. I wasn't aware of Birmingham, SK either.

ION Canadian news, we are currently campaigning to redesign Mac the Moose Jaw Moose statue to take back the title of World's Largest Moose statue.

I argue that we give him a giant top hat or stilts. Both would be preferable. Granted, it might be redefined as "Tallest Statue containing a Moose" and be disqualified.

Ah, yeah, I heard about that earlier today. I... honestly have no particular care about having the tallest moose statue. If we have it? Cool. If not... someone else is welcome to it.
