Once it appears Dengar is done expressing his thought, Hans vigorously nods as if he understood and agreed, while looking around the room to gauge the others' reactions.

"I will help you Dengar." Squig skips over to help shackle the dwarf. It is difficult for her, but after some grunting and heaving she's making progress.

Dengar and Squig move the dwarf over to where the rusty manacles hang on the wall and untie him. Dengar is able to shackle one of the dwarf's arms easily enough while Squig has to jump to reach the other manacle, eventually climbing onto the dwarf to reach it and shackle his other arm.

"OK!" Squig says with a huff after climbing up the dwarf. "This guy seems pretty secured. If everyone's done looking around, we can go alert the authorities and get Hans some help."

Hans takes his water skin back from Renaer and stares at Dengar. He's unable to make out what he believes to be a question, so he once again wanders over to Scratchy. He lightly moves the kenku's arm in an attempt to help him stand as he looks back pleadingly at Dengar.

"Yes, lets get out of these sewers..." replies Renaer to the group. He looks at Floon and says "we could each use a bath and an ale, ain't that right?" To which Floon cracks a small smile, the happiest he's been since you've found him.

Dengar moves over to Hans and together they lift the unconscious Scratchy, each pulling one of the bird's arms over their shoulders as his feet drag on the ground. The party doubles back the way they came, eventually finding a ladder leading up to a manhole cover that surfaces to the Dock Ward. After climbing up themselves, they drop some rope down and tie it to Scratchy to lift him to the street.

As the last of the group exits the sewers, a patrol of five city watchmen strolls around a nearby corner. Upon seeing this large group of people, most of whom are carrying weapons, they begin to run toward the group and draw their swords.

The man at the front of the pack, the only one wearing plate armor and obviously the ranking member, yells "Halt! Explain what you're doing here immediately! If I see anyone move a hand to their weapons you'll be thrown in jail, or worse!"

As the last of the group exits the sewers, a patrol of five city watchmen strolls around a nearby corner. Upon seeing this large group of people, most of whom are carrying weapons, they begin to run toward the group and draw their swords.

The man at the front of the pack, the only one wearing plate armor and obviously the ranking member, yells "Halt! Explain what you're doing here immediately! If I see anyone move a hand to their weapons you'll be thrown in jail, or worse!"

"Aha! We need help for our feathered friend here. We were attacked and he got badly burnt. Anyone have any elixir of aloe?" Dengar leans towards the guards inquiringly

“Feathered friend?!” the guard captain exclaims. He looks to his fellow guards and says “that’s a kenku! These scoundrels must be with the Zhentarim!” He then turns his attention back to Dengar and says threateningly “lay down your weapons or we’ll be sure you hang!”

Dengar flashes a glare at the rest of the party motioning to retreat a bit. He turns his gaze back to the guards.
"Hey now, that's profiling. Our friend is not one of 'those people,' well at least not anymore anyway."

“Hmph” the guard captain responds to Dengar, apparently mulling over the situation.

“If you’re not brigands, then explain yourselves coming out of the sewers at this time of night. Fully armed and armored, no less!” The guard captain says to you, lowering his weapon slightly. “You claim to have been attacked, but seems to me you were looking for trouble!”

“Hmph” the guard captain responds to Dengar, apparently mulling over the situation.

Dengar glances down and around at himself "Well, sir, this is all I have. You see," motioning towards the group "my friends and I are from out of town, and we're simply helping a contractor find his friend."

Renaer, previously helping to steady Floon, strides forward as he uses one hand to wipe his dirty, messy hair away from his face.

“Indeed, my friends here were simply hired by Volo to help find Floon here. He was captured by the Xanathar’s Guild and we freed him from their base in the sewers” he says, motioning over to Floon.

Getting a better look at Renaer, the guard captain fumbles over his words for a moment. “Huh? Wha...is, is that you Lord Renaer?!” He stammers, before sheathing his weapon and looking to the other guards. “Put your weapons away, you fools!”

“We’ll be on our way then, sorry to have disturbed your watch” Renaer replies, bowing low in a flourish.

“Wait a second!” The guard captain proclaims. “Your...friends...mentioned they were outsiders here...” he says as he begins going through his pockets. He holds out a piece of paper for Dengar to take.

“This is the Code Legal. You would do well to adhere to the law while here in Waterdeep, the magisters can be very unforgiving!” he warns sternly. “And if you will be staying here for an extended time, you must be sure to register with the local magister. If you don’t pay your taxes, they WILL find out!”

You get the feeling he’s being dead serious.

"Ah, thank you" Dengar says retrieving the paper, peering at real quick with raised brow, and secures it in a pocket in his armor. "Appreciate the good looking out"
He surveys the group, taking a look at everyone's condition "Well, muh Lord, I advise we should be going. I think our party should catch up on these laws before these fine security guards are forced to do something about it." Flashing a big smile around at the group stopping gaze on each for a moment.

The guard surveys Dengar, then turns to look at Renaer. “Have a safe night, Lord Neverember. I advise you all to stay out of the sewers if you’d like to avoid seeming as petty thugs.” He then turns to the other guardsmen and motions for them to continue up the alley past you to resume their patrol.
