Interesting. Belkar had showed qualms about doing Evil before (taking advantage of the gnome shop owner), but he'd never looked back and acknowledged any previous wrongdoing. As others had noted, his change in outlook always looked forward, so the prerequisites for redemption didn't exist. That just changed, although only for a minor misdeed for now. Not that I think that Belkar will actually have the time to redeem himself, perhaps not even in the preliminary "not redemption, but at least repentance" way that applies to V, but still, it's significant.

His first choice has to be Roy, right? I mean, unless he has the "I love you like a brother" thing going on, but even then I doubt his feelings for anyone in the party run particularly romantic.

He may realize that applies to himself as well, but no, he's talking about Belkar to Belkar.

I think the weirdest part here might be the fact that Durkon's clearly taken the time to consider this in detail, considering how quickly he shot out Belkar's specific number.

I hope we see more of Durkon and Belkar bonding (and hopefully more remorse and actual introspection from Belkar) in Book 7 as well.

I do think the speech is possibly a precursor to the one he will make to Redcloak, especially the "looking into the mirror" part. Redcloak has looked into a mirror before, but taken away the wrong message*; maybe Durkon's words will steer him towards the right one?
