Re: The Nerull Crusade
Kranz takes a deep breath.
Okay...
He rubs his hands together rapidly.
Time to completely **** this up.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
You mistimed your jump, and nearly fell into the pit, but saved yourself at the last moment. Afterwards, however, you have no problem slipping back into the town unseen
What do you do next?
Also, as I feel I've been neglecting you all a bit, what is the rest of the party doing at this time?

Re: The Nerull Crusade
I quickly and quietly dispose of the note on Brolo's door, and when I finish with that, I find the nearest guard.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
You quickly find one. This guard seems much poorer equipped than the others, wearing cheap hide armor, and wielding a club and torch. When he sees you, he instantly puts up his guard.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
As they head back to headquarters, Eldryn gets them to pause when they are a good distance from the village. He lays the priest down, and starts to very slowly and carefully tend to his wounds, grumbling under his breath about the force with which he was hit.
Spoiler:I have no ranks in Heal, so I will Take 20. I think you can do that with that skill. SO my total score is a flat 20.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
Spoiler:I was not sure of the limits of a heal check, but was hoping to improve his state a bit, since you mentioned that even a slight knock could kill him. I want to keep him unconscious, but stable enough that he can be safely transported without risking killing him.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
SpoilerAlucard isn't cruel enough to have him conveniently take 2 damage, you just need to be sure to handle him carefully.
He seems a little concerned.
Officer Kranz, with the military group offering services? I heard some racket, and saw Father Brolo go over the pit. I wanted to know if anyone knew what he was chasing?
Kranz takes this opportunity to recharge his Psionic Focus.Last edited by ScrubbusofYore; 2019-03-08 at 04:54 PM.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
SpoilerAs long as you don't do something dangerous while carrying him, you're safe. Scrub got a free pass in the confusion, but normally jumping the pit could have opened his wounds
Wait, you say you saw Father Brolo jump the pit?

(1d20+8)[9]
No lie. I think he was following whatever created the disturbance. He said something about...a vampire? He seemed a little hurried to explain, but unless he's already dealt with the problem and on his way back, I don't believe you'll find him around town, if you want to confirm my story. Of course, if you do find him, he'll corroborate my story.

Spoileryou're lucky Nat 1/20 for skill checks is actually just a commonly used house rule
(1d20-1)[8]
The guard looks nervous.
if he said something about a vampire, we need to hurry. He's going to need back up and fast.
He turns, and starts walking towards the tavern, before looking to you
come on then, we're going to need some help to beat a vampireLast edited by Alucard 109; 2019-03-08 at 05:23 PM.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
You enter the tavern, and notice an odd sight. It seems to be run by a small tribe of goblins. There are four young adults, two middle aged, and an elderly goblin. There are also four non-goblin patrons at the moment, a half-orc, an elf, and two humans, one unarmored and bald, the other heavily armored.
The man escorting you addresses the armored man captain Harvey! This man says he saw Father Brolo jump the pit and that he might have been chasing a vampire
The now named captain Harvey looks at kranz
is this true?
Meanwhile, with Eldryn
As he is about to cross the river into Grymsol, he sees a skeletal horse that seems to be waiting for him. It has a rolled up scroll in it's mouth

Re: The Nerull Crusade
Most certainly! From what I could tell, they were heading in the direction of my camp, too, so the battle may already be in our favor! But we should make haste nonetheless.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
Eldryn hesitated briefly, studying the horse. But it seemed pretty clear that the horse was probably waiting for him, or at least, for the party. So he took the scroll from its mouth and opened it, reading it carefully.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
The elf decides to chime in
if you're hunting vampires, you can count us in he says, as he gestures to the half orc and the bald man
The scroll contains a message
I sent Rattlebones to intercept you so you wouldn't have to miss out on the action. Just place the priest on him, and tell him "home". He'll know what to do.
PS: tell Kranz, "good work, but I asked for a team for a reason"

Re: The Nerull Crusade
We'd better move quick!
As I bolt out the door, I send Hamburg ahead, darting out of sight and to my allies as quickly as possible. Once he arrives near the party, he is to write "HIDE" in the dirt, preferably far enough away from camp so nobody can see said message in the dirt.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
"Rattlebones, huh?" Eldryn says. He shrugs, then places the priest on the horse's back. "Home," he commands, and watches as the creature heads off back to base. Now to return to the campsite and see what Kranz is up to. He takes off, moving quickly back towards the camp, but diverting just before he gets there, then coming in from a different direction, just in case Kranz and the villagers have gone back and discovered the camp. He wouldn't want to be ambushed there by mistake by his own companion.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
After Kranz rushes out of the tavern, the two men, the half orc and the elf quickly follow. You note that the elderly goblin is coming with them for reasons yet unknown.
He returns to the camp before Kranz brought the enemy to the ambush, and noticed the word HIDE written in the dirt. The rest of the party seems to have already done so.
SpoilerI'm going to just NPC them until at least one of them comes back, and if I don't hear anything from either of them before the mission ends, I think we can assume we need some new players

Re: The Nerull Crusade
Kranz looks around, mortified.
This was...this was my camp...
He slowly walks over to the longsword hilt in the dirt, hesitanty. He picks it up in disbelief, observing the shattered remains swept over the cone shaped radius.
Friedrich...he was...he was a child...

They all begin to look around for clues, when the bald man notices something
what's this?
He is looking at a single word carved into the dirt. "HIDE"

Re: The Nerull Crusade
Kranz comes over to look at it. After studying it for a moment, he grows grim, a thirst for vengeance in his voice.
...there's no blood around camp. This was an ambush. It's clear someone got here before the others, or else this message would just be some stupid giveaway. But...how would that play into the order of events? Were they hiding from Brolo?

Re: The Nerull Crusade
He looks him in the eyes, demeanor cold as stone.
I've dealt with these kinds of foes before. Vanishing into thin air, destroying weapons...I cannot say why it would want to take my comrades or my apprentice alive, but I can say one thing for certain: the undead had far more than just vampires with them...we are dealing with a Nightwalker.

Re: The Nerull Crusade
Ashley, thinking on her feet, decides to integrate herself into the group. She first moves away from her companions, just a short distance, so she can be found without them.
She then sets herself carefully, so her ankle is at the worst possible angle, and then lets her entire weight fall onto it, breaking it (or at least screwing it up something fierce). She screams in pain, loud and sharp, as she collapses to the ground. Oh gods, what's happening? It hurts, it hurts, it hurts!I have a LOT of Homebrew!
