    Default Looking for a word

This will probably be a short thread, but for the life of me I can't find it online.

What is the term for those boxes that biologists would pin dissected animals to, in order to preserve and display their anatomy? Or similarly, the boxes of pinned butterflies that show variations in species.

Wikipedia does not seem to use a specialized word for them in the entirety of their article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conser...sect_specimens , which makes me wonder if there no fancy word for it in general use. Related Wikimedia item descriptions seem to use "insect trays" in quotes.

The first supply catalog I found (using a DuckDuckGo search for insect tray -spray) here: https://www.bioquip.com/Search/WebCa...100&prodtype=1

seems to call them Insect Boxes, with specific types being called Schmitt boxes and Cornell Drawers. I have no idea if those are standard industry descriptors of specific storage types or brand names that don't distinguish type.

Insect taxidermy display cases? Specimen boxes?

I don't think there is a proper word.

Entomological cabinets? Entomology display? Entomology is the study of insects (and how they relate to us humans)

Hmm, ok! I could have sworn they had a specific name, but I guess they're just insect or specimen boxes.

    Thanks!

Display boxes/cabinets? Also, excellent name I gotta say.

We just call them cases in our collection. That's not to say they might not have a more specialized name that I haven't heard.

That article says a Riker Mount is cotton wool backed... ours have a harder back, more like cork or something. I assume that makes them different?

Edit: a lot like this. They are set into drawers, too.

As an external, I would have called that "framed butterflies".
