It is an uninhabited island in the coral sea, which is notorious for its extremely flat sandbar like islands. I doubt it has a name.

It's Mellish Reef. It's part of Australia's Coral Sea Islands territory.

Whenever someone notices some random island with no name or importance, we should just do a random selection of a group consisting of [population of the country that owns the area]+[person who noticed it]. The winner gets to become supreme God-Emperor decide on the place's name.

Or, if we can sell the rights, I can be the proud namer of "Wall's Ice Cream Stand - offering Ice Cream since 1982 Island #142".

If I was a poor country I would definitely sell the right to name unnamed islands to wealthy people. Not the island itself, but the right to slap a name on it.

I’d be tempted to build some sort of rich person resort on the island. The island gets hit by bad cyclones, though, so the resort would need to be built to weather high winds.

Nah, it just needs to be cheap to rebuild.
