There was this annoying guy who goes to the movie theatre every Saturday I just can't stand. I tried to avoid him. He always gets up on my personal business. He thinks that I'm his friend so anyway I tried to put a smile on my face and say hi back. It's so annoying to put up with him.

Have you thought about going to the movie on Sundays?

Have you considered telling him you aren't friends and you don't really like spending time with him? Sometimes being direct is the best way to get what you want.

Right. Maybe, if someone you don't like is there on the day you currently go, you should go on a different day instead.

I think you need to clarify if you work at a movie theater here because otherwise, the solution is to just stop going to see a movie the same day he goes.

I'm not going to change the day just because he show up on the same day. Also he not even an employee who works in the movie theater. He just a movie goer just like me. I'm going to tell him that this buddy buddy socializing isn't working out. I just here for the movie not to be friends with. Even if I hurt his feeling for it.

Don't worry about it. This is very easy to resolved. As the Joker would say: "Why so serious?"

The Joker is not a good role model, but smart decision.

Also I thought he was just some guy who bugged you while you were at work, I didn't realize you just... coincidentally keep showing up to the movies on the same day and he recognizes you. That's crazy.

I mean, if it happens enough, your brain'll just file the information away under "stuff to subconsciously remember." I know that happens enough with university. Classes of 400 kids, and you might run into one three years later in a lab section or whatever and be all "oh, hey, we've never actually met before, and I've no idea who you really are, but I remember seeing you occasionally in the crowd over the years" "Oh, yeah. Me too."

(Same with, like, people who have the same bus schedule, or anything that happens regularly that might coincide. And if Saturday is both peoples' movie days, for the same time... yeah, I imagine that the brain starts picking out patterns.)

I've actually had something like that happen to me yesterday. I went to the dentist office and the person at the counter was a girl I remember seeing all the time on the bus who was like five years younger than me, who vaguely interacted with my sister occasionally, and now she's just also here. She said hi, knew me by name, and I did not know who she was AT ALL name wise, but recognized her despite having no real actual interactions with her at all.

I know in public school in general, for some reason everybody seemed to know me. Either as me, or as my younger sibling's sibling (who was two years back from me). Even occasionally from grades ahead of me. And... like, a good 60%+ of the people, I didn't even recognize. I was always inwardly, like "uhhhhh…. howwww do you know me?"
I understood, sure people in my classes, but... I never figured it out. Apparently I'm memorable, or something. (I know I certainly am now, with bright pink hair. But I didn't have that then. )

So many people have stopped me to say like, hey *name* and it took a lot of work learning how to not say "hello person I don't know" because like 90% of the time it would be some rando.

Even worse are the times when you're like "ohhhh… I should know this person, but I can't for the life of me remember what their name is, or where I know them from... I just know that I know them."

Yeah, I've lived in the same general area for most of my life, taught school for many of those years, and also have a hobby that means I interact with hundreds of people once or twice a year for hobby-related reasons. I'm always playing "what's the least embarrassing thing to guess first when I think I know that person, but have no idea why?" "Do I know you from...Zoo Camp when we were both in elementary school?" "No? How do you feel about science fiction novels?" "Anime?" "GURPS?" "Hrmm...do you have a kid who would have been in middle or high school sometime in the last ten years or so?" "Choir?" and so on.

While I went to a state school instead of a public school*, I had the exact same thing happen. I blame being the only autistic person in normal lessons, out of two thousand pupils in the school.

Unfortunately it's then really awkward to ask people's names. Especially after six years at the school.

Thankfully Thai all for much better at university, and now I just have to deal with chronic loneliness.

    * there was no way we could afford the fees even if I'd wanted to.

In America, those are the same thing, with ones that are only for specific subsets of the population (generally "rich people's offspring" in practice, though they won't usually admit it) being called "private" schools.

There also apparently isn't the Secondary/Grammar/Comprehensive split. How on earth are you supposed to tell you're kid that they're not as smart as the guy dien the road if you don't separate them via exams at eleven years of age?

Ours tend to be multi-page affairs with comments and graphs (or at least mine were). It's just easier to tell which school somebody attends than to find out all their grades.

Um, just how old *are* you? The Tripartite System hasn't been a thing for 40 years--I'm nearing 50 and I never did the Eleven Plus.

It's still a thing in some counties, I think. Plus, many selective schools have their own exams that are effectively the 11+.

This, there is a marked difference between attending William Ramsey's and Join Hampden's (official motto: Quit Ye Like Men), simply because the latter requires you to pass the Eleven Plus. And now some people might be able to guess my hometown, I'll go and sulk on a Windsor Chair.

There's also a difference from both of those to having been schooled at Lord Williams's, an ex-grammar school which became a comprehensive. Also note that Lord Bill's is a very well regarded comprehensive, individual school you go to matters a lot.

Funnily enough my report essays generally said something along the lines of 'Anonymouswizard is doing very well and is above the curve, but needs to pay attention and actually do their homework. Also what kind of weirdo actually reads the entirety of Frankenstein when they don't have to. It's not socialising with other students enough.'

It's still a thing in Buckinghamshire, three out of my four siblings went to grammar schools (I didn't, due to living in Oxfordshire within the catchment area of a very good comprehensive arty the time). Plus a couple of other counties I believe.

To be perfectly honest, Benedict the 25-year-old autistic London-residing carehome worker with a third-class degree in electrical engineering, if any of us wanted to cyberstalk you, you've already given us plenty of information. I think factotum and enderlord are the only people here (myslef included) who couldn't be identified with 30 minutes of websearching.

Also if there's some weird taboo about collating information I'm unaware of (see signature), tell me and I'll delete the post.

    You forgot the 'autistc'

Eh, as I said before, in many ways I'm more worried about people from outside finding this account, for various reasons I'm fairly easy to find online (having a rather rare name is one of them).

Honestly, most of you here could likely find my Facebook profile without much effort. Those of you who do will see that A: the information I've got publicly visible is tightly controlled, and B: I won't have anything to do with a person on the unless I'm certain I know them. Also C: that I'm a failure as a person who couldn't meet anybody if he tried, because hooray for autism and deteriorating mental health from the lack of a social life.
