D&D Base Class Contest VIII Voting Thread

This is the voting thread for the eigth base class contest Magic Without Slots.

The rules are simple. Vote for your top three picks, in order. You can't vote for yourself. A number 1 vote is worth 3 points, a number 2 vote is worth 2, and a number 3 vote is worth one.

You can also suggest or vote on what you would like the next contest's theme to be. Currently in the suggestion box are Time and Dragons, but don't feel as though you need to limit your suggestions to those themes; a larger pool means more options to vote on next time.

EDIT: Extra themes have been suggested: Based In Science, Heroes from Myths, and Partial Casters.

The voting period will be two weeks, ending at the end of the day on October 13th. The following day I will tally these results and declare a winner. For the curious, the tiebreakers I will be using are:

1st tiebreaker is whether both participants voted. If one did not, they lose the tie.
2nd tiebreaker is total number of 1st place votes. The entry which got more 1st place votes will win the tie.
There is no 3rd tiebreaker. If both entrants voted and both entries reached their total score with the same number of 1st place votes, the tie will stand.

Thanks to everyone that provided feedback on the Calligrapher, I hope it fairs well!

1. Cultist: I love the flavor and I’m curious if now that Descent into Avernus is out if the Dead Three cults will be used as inspiration.

2. Arcanist: I liked the gambling mechanic of spell reclamation and felt it filled a neat niche as a warlock esque student of magic.

3. Tallytrev813’s Bloodmage: honestly, hard pressed to explain what put this one over the mortifier or the other bloodmage. A lot of parallel thinking going on which probably means the “trade life for magic” concept is pretty strong on its face. I’d probably just say three way tie for third.

Next Theme: Time, which is frustrating for me to say because Dragons are probably my all time favorite creatures so to see them up against such a fun to explore concept makes me want to do both.

1. Arcanist: Whole thing is great. Spell dice, the flavor of leveraging ambient energy, all of it.
2. Calligrapher: I'm taking it a bit on faith that the math on these DCs checks out; still very concerned about the class's ability to pull out a flashy moment when they need to, but it's otherwise really solid.
3. Mortifier: Using Hit Dice instead of Hit Points was the deciding factor for me; past experience leads me to suspect that spells based on hit points are a little too unpredictable.

For theme I'm going to vote Time, because I started to brainstorm it when we had a false start for it a few contests back.

1) Calligrapher. Not sure why I like it so much. Maybe just the fact that I appreciate the scrimshander so much.

2) Cultist. A very good follow on to theurge for sorceries.

3) Arcanist. Sorry, this is kind of just by default as I couldn't really get behind the blood casters.

In third place, with 8 points earned, we have theVoidWatches's Arcanist! Gamble with your magic as a core class feature!

In second place, with 9 points earned, BerzerkerUnit's Calligrapher! It's sorta like a truenamer, but it functions properly!

And in first place, with 10 points earned, MoleMage's Cultist! Stealing innate magic and worshipping the weird!

This was a good contest all around; a lot of complete, well built entries. Time had the most votes, so I'll be putting together the chat thread and submissions thread for that presently, but the new theme ideas will be noted at the beginning of that chat thread so we have time to consider them.
