Thoughts on Magic & Monsters?
I recently discovered Magic & Monsters, the basis of which is a rules mod for OSR.
The interesting thing to me is that rules mod- the effect engine.
Every point of success or failure on a roll can be spent on narrative changing effects, the more points of success the bigger the advantage
I've seen people complain about combat being repetitive and martials not being as versatile as casters plenty of times, so I was hoping this effect engine might be a cure for that.
Instead of a fighter type attacking a goblin and doing damage rinse repeat, the fighter could spend some of their successes to injure the goblin's wrist so he drops his club or at least make his attacks less accurate, or cut his forehead to get blood in his eyes to blind him, or the fighter type might be bathed in the goblin's blood to make himself scarier, etc, etc.
So has anyone checked it out, how does it work? Any reason I couldn't add the effects engine mod to a pathfinder or other d20 game?

Re: Thoughts on Magic & Monsters?
Sounds interesting, I don't think I've ever heard of it before.
Do you have a link to it or it's publishing site? Thanks!Awesome Rutger Hauer Jugger Avatar by Thormag

Re: Thoughts on Magic & Monsters?
Here's a link to the website with links to buy it directly from the publisher, or from drivethrurpg.
Here's a link to a review on rpgnet.
Here's a preview and another preview from the publisher.
To tell you the truth, if I had cash I would have already bought this book, it seems interesting.
But since I have to wait anyway, I thought I'd get some feedback to know where to put it in my wishlist,
So if you do check it out I'd love to hear your take on it.
EDIT- Oh and looking at it, I see that someone produced more books for it. In case you were interested there's a bestiary- Collectanea Creaturae - Monsters & Magic, and an expansion- Aperita Arcana for Monsters & Magic, 26 more classes, 15 more races, spells, maqic items, and rules to change the magic system.Last edited by StSword; 2019-10-19 at 01:17 AM.
