Re: OOTS #1187 - The Discussion Thread
Woah, Elan just made a speech that was actually inspiring. And you know, it totally makes sense--the world IS coming to an end after all. Although, if I were the IFCC seeing this, I'd be checking whether someone had messed with the thermostat recently.

Re: OOTS #1187 - The Discussion Thread
Nice for Roy, he is really confortable around the rest of the Order, everyone has grown so much since the first strips.
This books is nearing and ending? I still can see like a 20 or more strips before the end of the book.
Cheers!

Minrah: I'm so confused.
Welcome to the Order of the Stick, Minrah. You did volunteer.
Elan: Stumbling off in a drunken stupor to pass out in his bunk is the ultimate vote of confidence
I had a boss like that once.
Enjoyed the strip. Elan is doing what he's supposed to be doing.
He's inspiring people.

That was such a meta comment on Elan's part.
I can totally see what his dad meant when he said bards should be ruling the world and not singing in taverns.

Re: OOTS #1187 - The Discussion Thread
That was awesome on Elan’s part. Especially since every other time he’s tried to inspire people directly, it has backfired. And hey, it really does show how much everyone has grown over the comic.
Considering how tough Roy is though, he must have consumed a LOT of off panel beers to be that out of it.

Re: OOTS #1187 - The Discussion Thread
I mean, I think so -- theoretically, the book could end next strip, but I can also see how it could be several or more at this point. It just seems to keep slowly inching bit by bit towards a formal conclusion.
There's a bit more inherent vulnerability to arc fatigue and ending fatigue when OotS typically advances a page (or rarely two) about every week or so. I recall people raging near the beginning of this book that it wasn't getting going as fast as they wanted it to. It's just a symptom of an impatient world inuring us to immediate gratification, not to mention us getting spoiled by other webcomics out there that are much more prolific (and often simpler to draw and produce).
One factor, though, in the book ending sooner rather than later is that there is a publisher out there waiting for the complete volume so that it can be printed and shipped. So my bet is on this book ending in 1d4 strips/pages, rather than 1d20.Last edited by TheNecrocomicon; 2019-11-19 at 11:37 AM.

Re: OOTS #1187 - The Discussion Thread
Well, in the past few comic-days, the team has done everything.
Haley in the last comic just agreed things up with Bandana.
Elan now has just fixed his speech.
Belkar saved Durkon (and Roy realized that).
This whole book has shown how less Roy-dependent the group is now. But mostly, it's amazing to think how next book will be.
It will be the badassest OOTS ever.
Also: it is GREAT how the background is developing, Mr. Giant, and the mountains passing by slowly behind Elan is amazing artwork!

Re: OOTS #1187 - The Discussion Thread
I had never noticed before how the art style, with everyone having slightly different-sized eyes, uses perspective to make it clear where each person is looking. It's very clear in panels 3 and 4.
And now I look back at the very early strips, I see that style was always there.
It's another example of how very subtle elements of how the characters are drawn convey story elements that we all process, without noticing the skill and foresight behind creating the effect.
