The Cape needs to be shorter, i.e. off the floor. And it needs to come from the neck not the shoulder plates, i.e. thinner at the top.

I'm not sure if this will work for you, but I do all my characters using line thickness 2px.

The cape just looks abit wrong, Make it abit more curved and the stripe more curved cause right now it looks like its made from cardboard. Should have a brooch on his cloak too, other than that its great

What I've been doing on Illustrator (at least for Mechanightwing) is making a template out of little bits, a la this. It's simple, and it gets you towards greater skill in the program - that said, if you want to use sprites, then I'd be fine with that - just expect highly fourth-wall breaking rivalries between the different artistic styles. Probably fighting each other purely based on grounds of how they are drawn.
